It is very cheap to setup. The download of WordPress is free of cost and the software can be hosted on your own server. Even a beginner can use this tool.
There are many free plugins available, which extend the possibilities of WordPress. For example W3 Total Cache which helps the website to load faster on browsers, like Google Chrome.
There are also many so called themes. These are basically website templates, which can just be installed and used. You just have to add pictures and text.
There are also other Content Management Systems like TYPO3 or Drupal. But they are more difficult to use. Usually medium sized companies use these CMS.
The disadvantage of WordPress is, that is mostly used for smaller websites. If you want to build a large online shop, it is may be better to use programming languages such as Java or PHP.
Another disadvantage is, that it will crash if you install too many plugins. So always try to reduce the number of plugins.
