The perfectly lined up lipsync at 9:06 instantaneously shot me back 10 years in time I have to shamefully admit that my first introduction to Final Fantasy as a series was not through a game or even Advent Children but instead through The Spirits Within. Advent children was actually my first exposure to ff7 when I was eight. Did I understand the story? No. Did I find it somehow gorgeously compelling and have the music downloaded go years? Yes. I did not play the original game or any associated media until last year, which made for a strange experience. But I found myself adoring the og game and remake, and advent children has a special place in my heart for making me understand some of Cloud's spectacular emotional issues and how *big* and beautiful the world of the game is. Plus it has great music still.

One thing that always bugs me about Nomura's version of FFVII is that he always portraits Zack as a ghost (usually paired with Aeirth in "the afterlife") when the entire mythology of the game revolves around reincarnation. Like the only reason there's any problems in this world is because an alien lifeform died on the planet and became a cancer in the lifeblood of the planet. There is no afterlife in the FFVII universe. I can accept the idea that Aeirth is "in the lifestream" because she's a special little special. Zack? He died months before the plot, everything we know about this universe means he is reincarnated.

@generatoralignmentdevalue
@generatoralignmentdevalue Жыл бұрын
@@itsDjjayy No heaven, and even reincarnation doesn't fully sum it up. Zack isn't reborn as a new human. Part of him is a blade of grass, part of him is in a pool somewhere slowly crystallizing into an all materia, part of him was burned in a mako reactor to power a fridge to keep someone's beer cool, and part of him has been mixed with bits of several other people to be born as a new human. There is no keeping your individuality after death. Even Aerith only held on for a little while, with a lot of power, with no implication that she could keep it up once her task was complete.

The sky in this movie, feels just as much of character as the others, it creates a vibe and I feel like it’s what makes some of the scenes memorable, along with the the shots. Like when cloud is at zacks memorial, or when Rufus and Kadaj are talking, or even the last fight, it goes from light peering thru the sky (kind of symbolizing clouds hope, maybe just me seeing it this way) then to the gray we all know and love when sephiroth appears

I had to come back to this movie 2years late to this vid because im currently waiting on a game called wuthering waves that really has this advent children-bleak esque world aesthetic. It got me nostalgic and thinking back to this, not only because of its style but because of the impact no matter how small or subtle, that its left on me. I hobestly hope someday the movie gets a modern remake that fixes its flaws and ups whats good about it. I loved kadaj yazoo and loz and im probly one of the few who understood their demeanor, its weird but its meant to be. The "dont cry" is supposed to be like this sort of "theyre the special ed kid in class" kind of weird problem child aura. Its like an inside joke among the 3 that we're all just left out on but seems to be them trying to have or percieve some form of genuine abstract human emotion. Its as if its some sort of backwards affirmation to each other that theyre not just remnants due to the sephiroth favoritism kadaj spoke of, mixed in with light teasing, masking their longing to be whole with subtle humor. I hope the games bring them back, they were a cool concept that gets no recognition, i also loved their designs and weapons. You also missed the perfect opportunity to blast linkin park, like In the end or something. Thats how u deliver the dosage of nostalgia straight to the brain.

I had a complete opposite introduction. Dirge of Cerberus was my frist then Advent Children. Only years later I would play the original FF7, and I wouldn't even get what the ending meant until more years later because my mind was stained with the expanded universe, qhich should've never been expanded in the first place, as it destroys the thoughtful ambiguity of the ending.

Imagine watching the original release copy not having played the game, or any ff game at ALL! And the only thing I could refer it to was the other ff movie that came out a few years beforehand- the spirits within. So, my poor little brain is trying to connect the story of AC to spirits within in any way possible (because there were some similarities) while watching this, trying to figure out wtf is going on. Is this a prequel? Sequel? Lol This was my introduction to ff7 and literally the only thing that saved this movie for me was the characters Kadaj, Vincent, and just the sheer edgy appeal. But to be fair, that slight interest was enough to compel me to learn more and eventually play the game+ the remake.

I've never watched the original cut in English (used to be strictly subs only back in my teens, with anime and everything beyond) and the one time I remember coming across the Complete version, it was in English, and I don't remember it being that awful, though it was also long enough ago, that only thing I can recall with any sort of vividity about it would be Quinton Flynn being Quinton Flynnly comical slacker as Reno.

Could never bring myself to hate this movie. I mean, at least it's the entertaining kind of bad, instead of the boring kind of bad like Spirits Within was. After having seen that snoozefest, this felt like Heaven in comparison. The fight scenes, for the most part, were fire, and at least some of the rest of the movie was funny kind of bad (though some was still the boring kind). And for a shameless cashgrab, Nomura seems to LOVE this movie. For better or worse, there's clearly passion here. I mean every KH game, Dissidia, and FF7R were all trying to have "Advent Children style combat", FF7R ends ups going full-AC at the end and might even be a stealth sequel, and even the freakin' SSBU Sephiroth trailer was one giant AC love letter. Shameless cashgrab? Sure. But it definitely had passion, misplaced as it sometimes was.

In the german translation, tifa says something like "you're not alone, even when you feel like it, we all got our cross to carry. also stop looking at your phone all the time, everyone you know is in this room". Which I heard is close to the japanese script. Many things made more sense after reading "the way to a smile". I think the movie was made to look pretty, not to have a great, complicated story. Seeing my favorite characters have actual faces was great. Also the trope of fighting through survivors guilt, in a world that is fucked because you failed as a hero. Learning to be vulnerable while at the same time figuring out who you are beyond your trauma, while grieving, while chronically ill, while knowing that you might not get old anyways because of cell degradation or something. In beyond stage capitalism. Like bro. Let my emo babygirl rest for a second, give him a hug and a forehead kiss. The angst is delicious and I'm eating it up. How the movie makes no sense if you haven't played the Og game, including getting the missable cutscenes and characters is incredibly funny to me. I love the chaos this movie is, 10/10 to me

It amazes me that there are people out there who unironcally like the voices in this movie more then the remake voices

For me I prefer a couple of the old actors like Crispin Freeman as Rude, Quinton Flynn as Reno, and don't even get me started on how much of a downgrade not having George Newbern as Sephiroth is. And you can add Steve Blum as Vincent to that list whenever he's reintroduced.

I mean, most of the voices sound the same, better acting but the voices themselves sound the same, sephiroth is slightly less imposing though I don’t think it’s as bad as people say, rude didn’t speak much to begin with, but Reno’s new voice is a crime against humanity, quinton Flynn nailed that role and and the new voice makes him sound like a little kid

I've said this story a few times to people, but Evergrace was essentially this to me. As a kid, I rented the game, and I remember just utterly hating it. Yet as a poor kid who doesn't get access to a ton of games, I still played like 50% of the game, and part of me felt like it got better, but I was still bitter. Fast forward to 2011, and I am recommended to play Dark Souls. Souls easily becomes my favorite game of all time, and even to this day I find a lot of passion for it. In a hunger to find more games like it, I dig into the developers backlog, and lo and behold, I come face to face with Evergrace once again. I decided to give it another shot, just to see how it aged for me, and realized that it was essentially one of the earliest prototypes of systems that became the Souls series, almost like a spiritual predecessor. Was it good? No, not really, it still had a lot of issues, but I did learn that it was essentially an evolution on the King's Field formula, the game that is the true spiritual predecessor to the souls franchise, and was a stepping stone into that series. I enjoy Evergrace nowadays, and respect the creativity and risk that went into making such a game. That creativity and risk feels like it is missing in gaming a lot these days, and I can't help but feel like part of it is because people like child me just didn't give a chance to let me understand and play by its rules. That experience made me start giving more games a shot, and has overall just made my gaming life better and more defined. Shout out to mediocre media that embodies the spirit of what it was trying to do, even if it still failed at the execution in the end.

It’s just…there’s not enough talking in this movie! There’s so much that could’ve been addressed and deep conversations between characters that could’ve happened. But it’s a lot of silent action. I wanted more character study and fan service! I mean this could’ve been so deep and interesting with Cloud facing guilt and ptsd as well as his relationship with Tif getting some focus. I can understand why he isn’t living a happy life after FFVII. Saving the world doesn’t take away the fact that two ppl that he really cared about died. This could’ve been a big a hero rises story, but it isn’t, it’s a quiet action spin-off movie.

FF VII AC might have saved my life. Not the actual movie but the waiting for it. It has a lot of things that are awful, but I never disliked it and I understood a lot of decision taken. I would lie if I say that the movie fulfilled my expectations. It would have been great if the writing was a masterpiece. Nice seeing you use AC complete, although that is the "real" version by now. A bloody Cloud was one of my wishes I did not know I had. The vision of having AC combat in FF VII remake was perhaps the only great thing about remake >_
