they easily could have forgotten that moment in the pilot ever happened, and it wouldnt matter. but no, they decided to double down on it, and say yes abraham lincoln is a character in our universe, who lives on mars, and in fact hes even the king of mars. i love the world building in this show, so many details like this that start off silly and random but get worked into this big complex picture.

When death says “not this time your majesty” I already saw what was coming. The fact that he was willing to give up all he had achieved just to get jake back for Finn. He literally gave up not being shot and let history happen the way it was supposed to all for Jake to come back to Finn. That part stuck with me as a kid all the way into adulthood. The part that made me the saddest was seeing his monument, showing that history had happened the way it was supposed to and he never lived long enough to become the king of Mars

They way he delivers his dialogue and just randomly raises his voice is hilarious

If Finn just let the King finish his conversation with Jake, or simply talked instead of throwing a chair, the King would still be alive.

It pains me seeing king of Mars give up his immortality, but also redeems him in my eyes. For he misjudged Magic Man and Jake.

This always felt like the weirdest part of Adventure Time lore to me. Everything else, sooner or later, started making sense in the large weird world they were building. Magic, candy people, living fire, strange fantasy monstrosities. I can see how everything else fits. But then I remember the King of Mars is Abraham Lincoln, for no adequately explored reason, and possibly the reason he was assassinated was he gave up his immortality to save Jake. It's the one bit that, even now, just seems so... odd.

Lincoln bartering with Death and sacrificing himself is one of the hardest scenes in this entire show.

It was pretty wild for a kids show to add Abraham Lincoln into the story just to John Wilkes his Booth like that.

Abraham Lincoln at some point met death (most likely after being shot) but made a deal with him to become immortal. Magic and immortality seemed to mostly be considered fantasy before Simon found the crown so it's most likely Lincoln went into hiding to keep his immortality a secret (when he tried to give death a penny it had his image on it which wouldn't of existed until after his supposed death). At some point Lincoln found a way to Mars and like on earth gained a large amount of followers and became king of Mar's. When he saves Jake and pays with his immortality you can hear a gunshot go off and his throne has his statue on it suggesting that Lincoln was sent back to his original death date and died by the shot for real this time.
