That's not what makes a good interviewer. A good interviewer presses for truth and can get information from a story others can't due to their lines of questioning and tactics. Simply letting someone "tell an engaging story" is actually not an interview at all.

@@jacks1bonnielass the app is trash. You can’t skip ads normally you have to like try to scroll thru them and half the time you come back to the podcast in a completely different spot than it was playing. It’s hard to fast forward and rewind without it messing up, there is no more live JRE episodes when they all used to be live, there are some obvious cuts which means they are editing it, and let’s not even get into the 200 episodes that are gone that we can’t watch anymore, i could go on for days. Kudos to him for making it through that. A few years back I did a trans-mongolian trip that had me go from beijing to ulaanbaatar and then all the way to Moscow. Getting a visa for Russia is crazy enough, they ask you all these personal questions about family members histories and military service, but going in through train meant that I had to go through some random border check point in the middle of nowhere. A stark realization came to me as the three stout and very unhappy border agents in long grey trenchcoats and uniforms, like something out of an 80s movie, rifled through our bags, backpacks and even the compartment above our closet. They pulled out chewing gum and sternly demanded explanations. It was 2 am, I was in the middle of siberia, and I could be arrested for literally anything and NO ONE would know where I was. I didn't have cell service, no internet, no phone, save for the sporadic few moments I managed service passing through larger cities. It was a tense moment, but still an exciting trip. Russia is Russia. It's not the West. It's a unique place with a unique set of rules and many in the west can't comprehend the experience.

A good friend of mine was detained in Russian prison for 3 years. He just got back a couple months ago. His name is Trevor Reed. He is a great person. Served with him in the marine corps. He was falsely detained and now is working very hard to bring home others. Hostages & wrongful detainees. I could only imagine what he went through for those 3 years. his family fought hard to get him back all 3 years. He came back very malnourished.

So he was in a Russian prison in 2022 and the Russians found a picture on his phone of him in Afghanistan, a photo they found suspicious. However Afghanistan was part of the 43,000 mile bike trip in 2010-2014 and he said earlier in the conversation he didn’t have a phone with him on that trip, he said iPhones weren’t on the market when he left, and the cell phone he had on that trip he chucked in a river. So how did a 10 year old Afghanistan photo from his 43,000 mile bike trip end up on his cell phone in 2022? Something is not adding up.

@Daniel Caine His movements and words seem calculated to me. Try to imagine how this guy would look like, and how different his demeanor and body language would be if infact he WAS lying, i dont think it would be any different. The actions he describes could be considered very suspicious, and he downplayes exactly those suspicious actions. He paints the Russians as purpetraitors, but imagine; the Russians view the west as their enemy and in practice, they are. Not very surprising how the Russians act. The Americans would act exactly the same. He sounds like in fact he understands the Russian perspective, but he is deliberately ignorant while telling his story in order so that he infact HAS a story. This is my (ofc i can't be 100% sure) unbiased opinion. I just think it's interesting. If you think i am wrong in my reasoning, i am interested in hearing why you think so.

I watched the whole show. For someone who traveld for months and then spend more time in a prison and just recently came back he had an extremly specific opinion on the russia ukraine conflict. In my opinion that was quite suspicious. If i open a random main stream news site i would read exactly what he told about the conflict, about putin, about the the Asov battalion are somehow not real nazis and so on. I am not taking sides in this conflict. @@M1984FA Absolutly, i researched that Bucha thing even before it hit MSM. Pure false flag. Nothing made sense. Corpses left and right the street like you drove through with a lorry and just dumped the bodies left and right. And magically the corpses looked after two weeks like just killed two hours ago. Like there are no dogs, wolfes, rats, foxes, birds and so on in Bucha that would not immediatly start to eat them. Nothing dead lies outside without signs of animals feasted on it in the first night they can reach it. Town people do not know that, but when us country folks see a dead animal without bite wounds we know that died only hours ago.
