Do it! Keep it going! Love the design info. Disneyland as a whole is made up of small, deliberate design decisions, and videos like yours can help us to appreciate the Imagineering behind the great place.

Bravo Brickey! I’m curious how imagineering is able to execute this level of artistic detail. Do they have talented illustrators on-site doing the painting, or is all planned and then essentially a “paint by numbers”?

I adore Mickey's Runaway Railway! It's one of the few rides where I've been able to feel completely immersed in the story to the point where I didn't notice the breaking of the 4th wall at all. And I almost never lose awareness of the 4th wall. I remember riding it the first time and was asking to do it again before even exiting the ride. I love being able to appreciate all the imagineer's creativity and dedication to their work. More please!

Such a tiny detail that is so massive in scale. It adds so much to the feels you get when you experience a Disney Park. Thank you imagineers for going the distance. Great video Brickey thanks for giving more appreciation for Disneyland.

Absolutely loving the deep art dives on the lands. The paint job remains so vibrant despite being a cloudy day with all the high / low lights. ❤- I really hope they find a better way of hiding the conduit on the wishing tree, they could wrap it all to appear like fake tree branch growth

Great deep dive of New Toon Town ! I really like the detail they put into the wood grain siding. They have some talented artists. That must of taken a long time. To paint the whole land. I think how you said they used complimentary colors on the pillars made it look a little more like real stone or concrete pillars. Thanks for another video.

Love seeing this through your eyes, These are really standard scenic painting techniques that scenic painters (I was one for decades) have used forever. Think of it as Lilliputian illustration (did you see the great big 6' flat brush in your mind?) It's replicating standard illustration techniques in a much, much larger scale. I've always felt it was brave of Disney to let people get right up close to it. Some of it is airbrushed/sprayed. Some is brushwork (wet brush, paint on one edge), some is dry brush, and some is natural sponge work. It is so fantastically realized in Toon Town. Thank you for the appreciation, Brickey!

Great to see the creativity to build depth and character in facades. I ‘ve done landscapes & always garnered inspiration via Disneyland landscapes. And to put it into one word “depth” is the key to build on. Haven’t considered to look for the same on the buildings til now - of course it all makes since 😀

I do love the color scheme of Toontown, I don’t like the placement of the fountain, even though it’s very cute, and I definitely don’t like the fake grass, saying that I have fake grass in my backyard, and it gets very hot, hopefully the trees will shade it enough so it’s not to hot.

3:17 Somehow, I KNEW you were going to talk about the subtle shadow and highlight effects! I actually love using this technique when working on physical pieces (sculptures). It just adds a pop of life to a piece! For the darker shades, I’ll using go in wet into crevices and folds (thinned down acrylics or guoache), and wipe it down quickly. Let dry. Then for the highlights, a soft dry brush, with juuuuust enough paint on it on the tips of the bristles, OR you can use a CLEAN makeup sponge, and gently dab the lighter color on. Creates some amazing gradients.

Great video brickey love how you pointed out things of Mickey Toontown I think Walt Disney made Marceline Missouri in with a little St Louis Missouri just want to say is they both have a little bit of main Street USA feenin heart of St Louis and Marceline mixed together 1904 St Louis on the left side of main Street USA is a little tight end with Marcy misery and right before you get to the castle is a little bit of we get to Disney world and has a little bit of old Louisiana purchase style are you can put a little Louisiana purchase flag in the state of Missouri flag and Disneyland cuz I you can tell how much Walt Disney miss the state of Missouri when he moved to California I guess that's why he made one part St Louis of 1904 and Marceline dealer half of main Street USA Marceline Missouri so he think about that flying above next to a California state flag of Missouri flag of Louisiana purchase flag cuz they both Disneyland and Disney world both have a little mixture of St Louis and Marceline Missouri and little bit of old Louisiana purchase import of New Orleans square

So interesting!! It felt cartoony to me but I thought that was because of all the curved lines. So interesting to see that it was in the painting, too. So subtle and so effective.

When I was a kid my dad taught me to color-in by shading the inside of the outline darker, then scratching lighter in the inside portion of a shape to give it depth…Gotta say though I’ll miss the darker blue on the city hall columns and the red roof. Also when you look at older photos of City Hall you’ll also notice the pillar “ruffles” or whatever you want to call them were painted blue on either side toward the top and at some point they filled it in with white and went with a blue airbrush shadow on each layer. The blue trim around the door is stylistically better than more red, though I have to say. Makes the door pop. The paint brush colors on the Ink and Paint feels a little…dare I say, Mickey Mousey, but, I get it…

This trick is used for modeling and I've used it for great effect when painting miniatures! They used to sell a vast array of model paint shades and colors. But now a lot of the people who manufactured them stopped/discontinued them because of sales were dropping. I would choose the base color and a darker color and a lighter color and have all three shades to apply the effect! And

Hahaha!!! I come from screen printing and I too would use base extender with a drop of gray in it. Then everything I would print over would have a “shadow” printed over it. Shame model making is on the decline, such an amazing practice.
