Travel day 18 on our New York to Cape Coral Florida intracoastal waterway boat trip on our 2006 341 Meridian sport bridge. In this episode we attempt to avoid the shallow winding waters of Georgia and brave the Atlantic Ocean. Our day starts out Monday but as the daylight ticks away, the seas get rough and our tiny ship was tossed.
Will we make it to Florida today?

The captain is doing a splendid job of keeping his audience aware of his travels. He also seems extremely knowledgeable of navigation. I believe he keeps his audience very interested in all aspects of boating. Mr. Gerald P. Rothman Captian

You’re are blessed man to be able to live the dream many of us have. I bought my 40’ Searay 20 years ago with a dream to do a similar adventure. Life had other plans when I had to shut it down for multiple surgeries. I still have the boat and just enjoy it for short cruises. I’ve really enjoyed watching your adventure. Thanks for posting

On our last ICW trip, we were never able to go offshore, weather was not favorable. Your situations of low water in SC and GA were also ours, we were in a 36' sailboat with a 5' draft. Thankfully... we only had to call SEATOW twice on our 51 day trip from Galesville, MD on the Chesapeake to Jacksonville, FL and back to Galesville. That was our "Dream Trip"! One of those SEATOW times was just north of Charlotte. Back then we were using paper charts and watching the depth meter like a hawk. Because of the paper charts, southbound everything was upside down. After we reached Jacksonville, FL we headed back north. Wow, what fun to see the chart with north at the top! I've really been enjoying watching your trip. We felt fortunate to make 40 SM in a day, as we only had a single Volvo 62 hp diesel inboard. Fuel was about .90 per gallon, marina price! Excellent videos and narration, thanks! Be well, be safe!

I've always been a bit scared when I see the Ocean but I think I would have been terrified being as far out into as you were. Give me my Kayak on the river up in the mountains any day. 😉

Looks like you're burning copious amounts of skin too Skipper but I'd pass on the sunscreen for comfortable skin wear. Good news is when you do drop anchor and hit the rack, you're head will probably be asleep before it hits the pillow. Way kuul channel. Newest sub

Have you thought of changing the final drive ratio to improve consumption? 3500rpm on those Cats is almost out of the power band. I don't know your boat but those Cats make most of its torque at 1800. What do you think? Seems to me, changing the final drive ratio which is currently close to 1:1 would improve your range I would think. You would need to fiddle with pitch but calculators are everywhere

Now this is a dark question, but I have to ask. Are there man overboard systems when one is solo on a boat? I imagine if money is no object, you could have a fob on your wrist and the boat will stop and come back and have a mixed cocktail ready for you, but otherwise, are there personal protocols in place? Zero judgement here, just fascination and interest. :)
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Жыл бұрын
There are man overboard systems you can have installed but we don’t have any. It’s always in the back of my mind when solo worrying about falling overboard. I am extra careful during those rare times. An ugly detail is I kept a bucket up at the helm so I could relieve myself without going downstairs or near the gunnels.
