I was in Vevay last fall for a festival and actually saw Kat Von D filming with some people in a field next to the Schenck Mansion. Come to find out later through social media, she’s planting an enormous field of black tulips next to her property. She’s nestled perfectly in the castle on the hill. Great video, Roger!

I enjoy your videos, Roger. Although he wasn't an actor, he has written & produced some of Indiana's most famous sports movies. Angelo Pizzo. Hoosiers, Rudy, My All American, & The Hill. He has helped me out by signing many items for cancer patients to sell/auction. Keep up the great videos.

Born and raised in Bedford, I'm an IU grad and have lived for 3 decades in Los Angeles working in the music and film industries. Bedford has a Hollywood connection in the form of the late actor Claude Akins who played Sheriff Lobo on NBC's "BJ & The Bear" in the late 70s then in a spinoff series that lasted 3 seasons. Claude isn't a native son. Him and his parents moved to Bedford when he was a child. After his death, a college scholarship was established at Bedford-North Lawrence H.S. There is an annual golf scramble at Otis Park with proceeds going to his scholarship.

@@AdventureswithRogerThat New Albany Waterfront was great to jog walk on, and courted wife on that walkway. The flood of 1937, if correct, caused the RR to leave, and abutments were there, back then, as Park was being developed. The old RR station was still there too, and sported a plaque at roof-level, telling of the 1910 flood-level. 1997 was last time I experienced Ohio River running amuck. Thank you for further memories, from Darrell.

I loved Red Skeleton when I was a kid,I remember a house on the east side of Evansville that I was told he lived in at one time, it was a thrill just to see it, although comedy was his thing, I remember him singing a sad song in a baby nursery with an empty crib, and becoming emotional, I Believe he had a child die in infancy, whenever I see a sad clown it reminds me of the melancholy Mr Skeleton.
@AdventureswithRoger
@AdventureswithRoger 4 ай бұрын
Red was a very deep person, hidden by his comedy. His 9 year old son Richard was diagnosed with leukemia, and given a year to live. The family toured Europe to show Richard the world, before he passed at only 10 years old. It affected Red the rest of his life. Red drew 100’s of pictures of sad clowns, even one with vultures, and reporters asked why. He would never say why, but had once said he himself was a clown, not a comedian. All of those sad clowns were self portraits.

Red Skelton was my favorite comedian when I was a child. There were many a night that I would laugh so hard that I would end up on the floor. I also got the privilege to see him in Vincennes. I believe it was around 1964. He was on stage and at some point in his act he told how he, at a very young age, ran off with the traveling circus. Erin Moran was often seen walking along SR 135. I was living near New Salisbury at the time and word got around about her living in the trailer park.
@AdventureswithRoger
@AdventureswithRoger 5 ай бұрын
Red was good people, and we need more like him! The media made a lot of cruel rumors about Erin. I wanted to clear a few of them up, without tarnishing the story too much. The producers that made Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi, made millions off of syndication and merchandising. Erin made a little over $60k from all of it, not even enough for medical bills. Henry Winkler, that played “Fonzie” on Happy Days, helped her out where he could.

I missed some from the golden age of cinema, that weren’t listed in the places I looked. MGM used to have a huge vault of movies, from the beginning of cinema, along with metadata of the stars and directors. In 1965, all of that was lost in a large fire that consumed the history of film. Today, we rely on the memories of people that put facts in databases, or books, before they died.

Jeron Criswell King was born in Princeton, Indiana. What is Huntington connection? There was a marker at the Maynard house and the library has posters. Not sure I would list Kat Von D with the others. I had to look her up.

You’re right about Jeron, he was born at Princeton. Kat Von D has been extremely successful with her television program. In fact, even more so than most of the other celebrities mentioned in this documentary. LA Ink made her a multi millionaire, and a household name to anyone that watches cable tv.

Okay...of the "Hoosier Hollywood Stars "... yep, I know of many: James Best; Erin Moran; Florence Henderson; Bill ? (though I know of his Disney works); Claude Atkins; my second cousin on my dad's side (where Dad was first cousin) Red Skelton (gotta see yet the museum in Vincennes); Spank McFarland's character sister. Interesting show, Roger. There's several more Hollywood stars from Indiana, as you may know...Will Geer [1902 - 1978] from Frankfort, Indiana...James Dean...Shelley Long...Steve McQueen...Carol Lombard...Scatman Crothers...Anne Baxter...Michael Jackson and sister Janet...Ron Glass...Jane Pauley...Ryan Murphy...Adam Lambert...David Letterman...Betsy Palmer...Forrest Tucker...Phil Harris...Chad Everett...Strother Martin...Alex Karras. These I know of. Many others, I don't know due to I don't watch a lot of nowadays TV shows and see the movies of say, the last 30 or more years. But, anyway...us "native Hoosiers" should be quite proud of those from Indiana. (For me...I haven't made it in the TV / Hollywood scene...yet...but if I did...whom do you think I would have been made like in the famous? Gosh! A whole bunch of the Best, I guess) 😅

Kenneth? My maternal grandmother ( Ken and Kerm’s younger sister) never called him anything but “Ken”. My maternal great grandfather called Ken “Kenneth Olin now what have you done?” The house was on Liberty Street. Question: WHY did you leave Kerm out? While he was no where as popular as Ken, Kerm had a far longer career in Hollywood. BTW…May-nerd, not May-nard.

I tried several internet searches. First shot was, “Hollywood actors from Indiana”. So-so results, mostly people from Indianapolis and further north. Then I started searches on the bigger southern Indiana towns, counties, trying to find “notable people”. Never once saw a Kerm. I think some of the gaps are due to the 1965 MGM vault fire. With the entire archive gone, including both the films and metadata about them, many classic era actors have been forgotten.
