After banging his Mom, I decided to give Machine a ride with the all new Tesla FSD 12.4.3. It got off to a bit of a rocky start, but got better from there ending with two zero intervention drives.

That’s great. A good human driver would also follow the road signals with relatively minimal hesitation and just safely reroute 🙌. A bad driver would have lazily and illegally shoehorned into the other lane causing road rage issues. Well done FSD 🙌

Your statement; “ I am amazed at how well FSD does even with limited interventions” is the message you should keep repeating to your viewers. The vehicle is so terrific even though you may have to make an intervention occasionally. That is what people need to know now to convince them that FSD can be enjoyed Now as it stands and will keep on getting better. No need to be so skeptical as to the capability of this Full Self Driving Feature even though intervention at times will be needed this year. Excited for the advancements and for full self driving without even the need to keep your eyes on the road to most likely occur early next year is my prediction.

From ChatGPT: “A yellow light at a traffic signal typically indicates that the light is about to turn red, and drivers should prepare to stop if it is safe to do so. The requirement to stop at a yellow light varies by jurisdiction, but generally, drivers are advised to stop unless they are too close to the intersection to stop safely. It's intended to provide a warning to clear the intersection rather than accelerate to get through it before it turns red.” In my opinion, stoplights are one of the things FSD does pretty well (I currently have 12.3.6), including when and when not to proceed on yellow. Lane issues are a different matter - lane indecisiveness (lane dancing), choosing the wrong lane at an intersection and ignoring that it did so, whipping (and I mean frightfully aggressively at 60mph) into a very short left turn bypass lane when there isn’t even a another car turning left. FSD just makes bad decisions at times; there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when. Really troubles me that I can’t always trust it. I want this to succeed, but we need much more progress before I believe that full self-driving is solved. In my opinion, it’s quite a ways out, but I very much want to be proven wrong.

Agreed. I just got 12.4.3 yesterday and tested it out. Some things better, but still issues. Speed control is still TERRIBLE. Almost always, I have to force the accelerator to get to the set speed. Otherwise it takes forever (if it ever gets there) and I would be causing road rage in other drivers! There's also a controlled intersection I use every day driving home from work, usually later at night. If I'm the only car waiting at the red light, when it changes to green the car just sits there. There are no cars in any direction, and FSD has no idea how to proceed. This shouldn't be an "edge" case, it's a basic intersection with traffic signals, nothing special about it at all. I disengage and report it every time, but it's still not capable. Clearly still work to be done. I live in Canada, and can only imagine what this will be like with snowy conditions.

@@nazzarenopisano652 great example. Don’t get me wrong about my criticizing of Whole Mars. It’s just very misleading to drive the same routes, that FSD has apparently mastered, and suggest that it will be like that for the average person - it’s just not but it will be one day.

I like your videos, specially when you narrate. I have a question. I have a 2023 Model X and recently paid for my upgrade from Enhanced Autopilot to full FSD. I got TeslaOS v. 2024.14.9 (which gave me FSD v. 12.3.6). I noticed that when I’m in the right lane of the freeway as I approach traffic merging from an on-ramp, the car wants to hog both lanes due to the right side paint line moving over. The car tries to stay in the middle of what it perceives as “the lane”, effectively cutting off people trying to get on the freeway. Have they fixed this in FSD 12.4.3?

Personally, I wish Beta Testers would report when the car does something stupid. They took away my report button because I probably used it too much, but it's not like they gave me instructions on when to use it. I think, if twice in a row it tries to turn into a Do Not Enter, and then just stops in the road, it would warrant a report so the system can get smarter.

My M3 LR Highland panic brakes for pink elephants at speed sometimes, you hang in the seat belt while the car goes BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! franticly trying to understand what is happening. Today I got paniced at 55 mph on a narrow highway and I accidentally jerked the steering wheel to the center of the highway while the other car swooshed by by inches. Been a Tesla owner 10 days and it has given heart attack about seven times in ten days. It has also impressed me by the way the adaptive cruise control lowered the speed temporarily passing through some twisty turns at 55 mph, it smoothly braked down to 40 through the bend and then accelerated back to 55 mph (80 km/h). Problem is our roads I think. Some of them have very worn out road markings, non existent at times. Scariest when it panic braked while steering outward the highway when meeting incoming traffic, big trailer truck coming over a hill surprising the Tesla, and me! A new car scaring me so many times in ten days makes me want to go back to my old dumb 2013 Ford Focus. It never scares me. Hope Tesla works out Swedish roads soon. The M3 LR Highland is a brilliant car, hopes the unleashed FSD sets the car free. And me.

on 12.3.6, the only interventions I really have (and they are consistent): Right lanes that turn into right turn only lanes Right lanes, like the one by my house that have parking outside of rush hour. These are a problem in my case, nobody parks there except the block that I have to turn at, my car pre-stages and always has to get back over and generally gets stopped until traffic clears because it is a busy road, when I manually drive, I never get over because I can see those cars for over a quarter mile AND I know there will be cars parked there, since Tesla's cameras don't look that far ahead, I don't know how they solve that. This is just one example spot, but lanes that allow parking are all over the city and the car cant handle that... mountain roads that are narrow, I haven't had a problem with on V12

I know Elon would be adverse but an overlay within the software of road/lane closures, signs, rules, restrictions, and directives, lanes, from local DOTs just seems to make sense (i’m assuming it already gets disaster areas, emergency evacuation routes, etc). I'm seeing the Tesla FSD has way more navigation problems than driving problems, exactly like people who learn to drive just fine but get lost all the time. The question is: Can Teslas learn from each other about the roads, making them rapidly be more experienced than any one human.
@cosmocalisse
@cosmocalisse Ай бұрын
FSD videos outside of city cores have become pretty redundant since 12.3. We need to better understand if unsupervised FSD is viable in true city cores with high population density like NY or Toronto. It still feels several years away from being able to autonomously handle that. Even when it's making no mistakes, it still behaves like a driver with alzheimers who can never remember there's a new construction bottleneck down the street, or that a slow side lane means people are lining up in advance of a turn, or that yesterday's shortcut ended up being a good or bad idea. Many turns here in Toronto are restricted by time of day, and even if FSD learns to read the signs, it's already too late and a human would have picked a totally different itinerary to start. It seems to me that the only realistic goal for FSD is to reach the level of a super safe human driver with ahlzeimer's, and passengers will require lots of patience - until they update the hardware to a point where it can remember months worth of its own driving experience on a car-by-car basis.

It's becoming clear that Tesla's are going to need AGI to fully solve real world FSD. FSD ultimately will need to understand signage, hand signals from other drivers, police officers directing traffic, etc. This will require massively more compute power than currently available in the car.

@@bingguo4297 That would just be for a tiny text only LLM. A universal robo taxi per Elon’s goal is going to need to be full multi modal AGI that understands the real world in great detail , reliably and in real time. Tesla could instead serve very limited zones like Wamo is doing, but that won’t help many people.
