I'm a Roman Catholic, and I attended an Antiochian liturgy for the first time last week. I had become convinced, through dozens of hours of debates, talks, and a couple books I read, that the Orthodox church is the true church. Actually attending the liturgy was amazing. It was beautiful and everyone there was so friendly. My wife's coworker is Greek Orthodox and she came with us to walk us through what to do. She was upset because she said she liked that Church better than hers. She said you can really feel the love there. I can't wait to go back next Sunday.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. The first seven ecumenical council and the Church Fathers clearly teach the Papacy, filioque, divine simplicity and purgatory, that is the doctrines that the so called "orthodox" church rejects. Catholicism is true, and orthodoxy is false. One must be a Roman Catholic to be saved.

I’m going to be baptized in two days. In my country, Japan, people don’t know the existence of Orthodoxy. So, few people go to church. But this video reminds me every time we held the Divine Liturgy, we are fulfilled with Holy Spirit, holy saints and fathers. Thanks for sharing great videos. I really appreciate like your posts, because in Japanese information about Orthodox Church is so limited that even John Chrysostom the golden mouth has never been translated into Japanese. we can’t understand how to interpret the Bible. So again thanks for your posts and keep up the good work!

I’m a baptized Protestant but have attended an Orthodox Church the last two months. First Divine Liturgy I went to definitely felt “foreign” to me and was unsure if I would come back. When I saw that next Sunday’s Gospel reading would be the Women at the Well, one of my favorite passages in the whole Bible, I decided I’d try again. Now Im reading Father Coniaris’s book, Introducing the Orthodox Church: It’s Faith and Life, and I am seriously considering converting.

Such a shallow church so focused on externals. I was an atheist I met the risen Lord was baptized in a Baptist church realized certain aspects of that tradition were wrong, such as denying the real presence of Christ in holy communion. But I did not over react by doing what some of the people I met who imagined this group of churches in the east had no shortcomings in their tradition. We all fall short and what we need in the broken body of Christ is humility and the capital O Orthodox churches need it too. The security of God is hidden in the insecurity of the cross, not pretty pictures or music with or without instruments and whatever else people get wrapped up in.

I attended my first Divine Liturgy yesterday and it was very much like coming home and I certainly felt like I was looking into heaven. What the abbot said about the old lady in the wheelchair reminds me of a dear old man who was there with a walker - when it was appropriate he sat but otherwise he got on his feet for our Lord and it inspired me not to let my aching feet and calves distract me.

Growing up Protestant, I have always admired both the Orthodox and Catholic Masses. I have always felt that Protestantism is both empty and in most cases simply wrong, and have felt strongly about converting for many years. I also have been recently acquainted with the idea of how in Orthodoxy you are encouraged to experience the faith with not only your mind, but all of your senses. Thank you for helping me to finally make my first step into Orthodoxy!

We have little respect for God’s Holy Church Service, No respect for God’s commandments, No respect for good works that Christians should do. Pharyn Gealized Our saints are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We venerate them out of love and respect. We ask them to pray for us, and they do, and God likes to see our mutual love. Don't we ask our friends to pray for us? It is the same thing. AND we know that it's more likely that God will answer prayers of saints. The Bible makes it clear that those who are just or righteous are heard by God, so the prayers of the saints have a power and efficacy which may not always be the case with those of us who are still steeped in imperfection.

This video is very true and right. It is very easy to become a Pharisee as Orthodox Christians if we do not focus on truly changing ourselves to be more like Jesus. I am a convert of just over 35 years and it has been so healing but even now I need to struggle to stay on the path. Satan attacks all people continually and we are fighting against power that only God can defeat. This requires us to be engulfed by a life in Christ. The life of the saints is very instructive.

A great teaching ,I did exactly the same in monastic life ,and after a while I became UNGLUED .the ego is very clever at fooling our conscious childlike being ,it is the ego that brings us down with self righteous anger at what others do .it was never about other people but our ability to sit patiently with our own thoughts and not be pulled down to judgement.

@@dimazanya2568 It is prohibited to create images and worship them as God. However, it is not prohibited to create images generally. We Orthodoxs do not worship the Saints and Mary. The worship is only for God. The use of the holy icons is the same as for the photos today. The photos from your beloved persons. Your feelings you have for your son or for your daughter are coming from the iconized person and not from the paper or the plastic or wood by which the icon is made. Why do you need to have the photo from your beloved person? Because it helps you and once you take in your hands, you feel them closer to you. We do not venerate the Saints or Mary as God. As they continue their life closer to our God, we are expressing our gratitude because they are our mediators in front of God. Expressing our respect and love to them, does not prohibit us to love and worship God as God. So, the Orthodox Church does not worship Saints and Mary as God. This is the Orth. Church’s position for 2000 years now. Sorry for my bad English …. :-)

Thank you for the advice! I am 19 and come from a non religious family, and just discovered Christianity this past year. This December I started attending an Orthodox Church, and the priest has graciously let me attend Catechism classes despite not yet being a catechumen. I know Orthodoxy is the truth, and i sincerely hope to be baptised one day!

I'm AG and attended a Vespers service this past Saturday. There was a reverence not present in my church and the atmosphere felt holy for lack of a better adjective to describe the service. I did feel lost with everything going on...kind of like attending a line dance and not knowing the moves. Probably a very poor analogy so forgive me if I offend anyone for that's not my I intent. I will be going to Vespers again this Saturday, btw.

I've been studying about Orthodoxy for over year and attending an Orthodox church for six months. I've spoken to a priest and a member, am speaking to the priest for a second time about becoming a catechumen. Glad I did not rush my interest in converting from the Anglican Church and spent time learning about and observing the divine liturgy.

There are so many stories of humble and simple people that their eyes of soul were opened to see what is happening during the divine liturgy. They have seen the church absolutely packed with angels, so many that you can barely move. They also have seen Christ himself as the High Priest performing the liturgy and the prayers of people rising as light beams, joining together and move towards the sky.

I like that as I inquired into the Church, all I did was stand at the back, and yes, I watched people! It felt right, but I didn't know what to do, so I just watched what the old women did, haha, and copied them! Once, I arrived late because of the snow, and could only find a seat near the front. I knew what to do by then for the most part, but then an old woman said to me later in a hushed tone that I was crossing myself too quickly, and too small! She said in the most broken English "*Do it big. Big, so the devil may see!*" I always remember that.

I'm not orthodox but I was deeply touched by what he said about the liturgy is entering a realm were the church in heaven combine with our worship as a body of believers on earth. That is profound. We are entering a foretaste of heaven in our corporate worship. What riches the orthodox have to us who love the Lord Jesus and want to serve Him in truth. Glad to hear this interview with Bishop Tryphon.

I am Latin rite and I am honestly curious about Orthodoxy. I've been to Tridentine masses and I've been to Novus Ordo (though I do not like the latter) but I have been honestly curious about Orthodoxy for a while and respect how Abbot Tryphon explained it as "Catholicism on steroids". The part that got me was when he told the story of the old woman, and the level of reverence that is honestly not seen in many churches, especially Novus Ordo. The issue is that I live in the Evangelic bible belt of mega churches and thrashing on the ground "catching the holy ghost". But when he explained the level if reverence, apologies it honestly spoke to me, I just couldn't help but well up a little.

I have attended Russian Orthodox services in Russia and I couldn't understand a word of what was being said or chanted, BUT, just being there was amazing! The Abbot is right, the Divine Liturgy creates a place where time stands still. Sadly, the nearest Orthodox Church to me is around 300km away so I don't get to experience the Divine Liturgy unless it's on KZfaq or a CD.
