Before I started my first year of teaching back in 1992, I wrote a letter to my third grade teacher and asked for advice. He told me to try to find something that went well during the day. He stated that I should not focus so much on what did not go well and not to be so hard on myself. I still have his letter, and that is the advice that I would like to offer. You have made a wonderful video that is a resource for all teachers. I will begin my 29th year of teaching in August, and it is always wonderful to be reminded of all the advice that is available. I started my first teacher class on February. Definitely didn't feel like a real teacher teaching virtually. Now that it'll be "normal" again I'm really excited but feel a little overwhelmed at the amount of resources and ideas. I want to do it and buy it all. Trying to see what would work best.

I am (hopefully) a future teacher entering my first year of college in the fall. I am someone who *loved* all of my teachers through my K-12 years. Except if one. He was the worst teacher I ever had, and he was definitely not a first year guy. There are so many reasons he was awful, but the biggest thing he always failed to do year after year was treat us with respect. Kids will never give respect if they aren’t shown respect, I promise, because they’re kids! All of his students were much older (high school age) so therefore a little more mature, but still, we were just opinionated, loud, not afraid of anything, teenagers. I once had one of his little minion assistants tell me that he would respect his students if we respected him first. What on earth? I was baffled. Teachers are the adult. Because of him, I hope I will never forget that.

Hi, first of all I love your content!! Im currently in school for Early Childhood Education. Im going into my junior year, which means it’s time for the professional program admission. Im feeling a little discouraged because of the standardized testing. I was supposed to be admitted into the program in January but I missed one portion of the Praxis by 10 points and it set me back a semester. I was feeling really defeated about it, because I felt I let myself down. I’ve been putting off retaking the test (I know is a terrible idea) because I’m extremely nervous. I’ve been feeling like maybe I don’t have what it takes to be an educator. I say all this to ask if you’ve ever been through anything like this while in college? If so, how did you overcome it?
