Elvis Presley is remembered in a compilation of Charlie Rose interviews, including Tom Jones, B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Ann Margret, Tanya Tucker, Jerry Weintraub, Branford Marsalis, Ernst Joregensen, Anthony DeCurtis, David Halbestram, and Sam Phillips.
Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977), also known simply as Elvis, was an American singer and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "The King."
#elvisstories #elvistribute #tomjones
The Charlie Rose Show (PBS/1991-2017) is an American television interview and talk show, with Charlie Rose as executive producer, executive editor, and host. The show was syndicated on PBS until 2017 and is owned by Charlie Rose, Inc. I was born in 1946. I speak for mine & my mother's generation; we were all controlled by society and living like robots. THEN ALONG CAME ELVIS ....... and we were all set free, everyone was singing along in their cars, on the busses, in their houses, everywhere. We all started dancing, moving our hips and wherever there were teenagers we were all jiving.

I was born in 46 also. I agree he was excellent. He set the bar high for everyone else. He was beginning to realize he was a product when he did the aloha special. But that isn’t what got him to his lowest. There was something going on in his body. He had controlled it as much as he could. But the stuff he had been doing wasn’t working.

I totally remember the day Elvis died. In fact I remember exactly what I was doing when I found out. I was just 6 years old and was playing with my Evel Knievel stunt motorcycle and ramp on the front room floor waiting for supper and then the 6 million dollar Man TV program to come on . A News Flash came on the TV and said Elvis had died . My Mom came from the kitchen and just stared at the TV . She and my stepdad ( who had a total Elvis hairstyle and big sideburns back then ) got really quiet. For days afterwards I remember them playing Elvis 8 tracks. Sometime not long after that my Stepdad cut his hair and sideburns.

As a lifelong Elvis fan who has observed every tiny detail in complete concentration and even truly learned what is right from wrong on many things , from the type of person that he was; I can confirm that this is once if the truest things ever said . He trusted them and they broke his heart . He didn’t need to be black , white , brown , tall short fat or even nice … he had enough (when you compare it to today’s standards even more) to make it to the top even if he had been a monster .. he didn’t have to be a nice person … he decided to be one.

@@slackburngirl8593 😢 yes, thru all the betrayals he remained kind. Even when Red West called Elvis and recorded him, he remained kind, asking Red if he needed any financial help? I swear, one could hear the man's broken heart! Elvis dreaded the expected fallout fr that book. The hitjob worked as the MM wanted. To this day people disparage Elvis, having reduced him down to a fat has-been drug addict who died in the bathroom. The haters enjoy hurting him that way. EP was a sublime individual, generous to a fault. He literally gave those people their WORLD: car, house, guns, jewelry, travel the entire family enjoyed AND salary. Most are dead but still his ex-gfriends, cousins & their kids and the lying stepbrothers are spilling guts on Elvis & making a living off his life. I wish they'd just stop; get real jobs and let him have the privacy he so desperately desired!

I grew up in Lincolnshire, England, and our TV Service had just changed from Anglia TV to Yorkshire TV. The day after Elvis died a presenter of the regional news ( Calendar News ) called Richard Whitely was broadcasting live from the city of Leeds in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He was there, in the city centre asking what people thought about the death of Elvis Presley. One rather old-ish looking lady asked, in return, "who is Elvis Presley ?" Never before nor since have I ever met or seen anyone - to my knowledge - who needs ask who Elvis Presley is / was. I`m still in this part of the world - but across the River Humber in the East Riding. I`m a Taxi - Driver. Even schoolchildren take it as given who Elvis is. Naturally they follow todays trends, but they still recognise the name, Elvis.

In Louisville Kentucky mom's doing dishes. I'm slapping my behind singing,. "I'm gonna shake Marilyn Monroe, I'm gonna shake Marilyn Monroe. Mom said, "What are you singing?". I said I'm singing Elvis's new song. "Honey I don't think he's singing Marilyn Monroe.". Took my German wife Petra to see his home in Memphis. I've always wanted to write songs and poetry. I can/ could do that. But never have had anyone encourage me. My brother Bill met him while stationed in California as a Marine. Bill could only talk good things about Elvis. He even got to swim with him and his family. Memories. I watched all his movies have records. My favorite If I Can Dream and of course How Great Thou Art. God Bless you Elvis.

No denying the opinions of those involved with E or those in music that offer the how and why Elvis was and is so revered but for me, a fan, I think it's simple. Before I knew how poor he started out or what he looked like, how generous he was, how humble he would remain and the many more features Elvis had.... I heard him sing ...PERIOD. That 8 track me , my brothers and sisters listened to while doing our chores " Billion fans can't be wrong " was everything awesome

Same here with me. I didn’t know what he looked like or anything about him. I still remember the 1st song I ever heard of his which was “A fool such as I” I was playing in the driveway and the neighbors next-door had a radio at their kitchen window which was facing the driveway that I was on. I was maybe 8 years old. I had gotten a radio when I was 11. I would search for that voice, especially on Saturday nights. I ended up listening to a radio station from Cincinnati, (I lived in New England) that would play a lot of his music. That’s when I found out that his name was Elvis. The other song that he sang “The thrill of your love” well that sealed the deal I was a fan forever. To me there was something about the way he expressed himself through a song that was just magical, I had never heard anything like it. I enjoy many types of music but for me he is at the top.

@@Wildlife_SA. "the feeling and sincerity he sings with” well said. You know they call him the king of rock & roll because he’s the one that popularized it, but to me he’s the king because of the way his voice comes through majestically on so many songs. And yes he was definitely blessed. I have heard more than one top musician say that his timing in a song was impeccable. Well that is god given natural talent when you take into consideration that he never really had any formal training. He was blessed.

If you watch carefully -you don’t really even have to watch that carefully-During the 1968 come back special rendition of heartbreak Hotel, you will see how very much his granddaughter Riley is like him when she sings. The similarity in her face ; her mouth and the way that she forms words , the same style speed and personality, the smoothness .. it is all there in his grand daughter. It makes me so happy I could cry.

Folks analyze every fiber of Elvis's being as if they're searching for some magical formula for success. But, his legacy comes down to 2 things: There's no genre he couldn't sing. Even some of his unheralded songs sounded a bit like Rap and Hip Hop. Plus, he had exotic good looks.
