Thanks, I live in Northern California where it gets super hot and dry here in the summer so I especially love your tip for putting in pieces of cut up car sponge. But how much for a 14" basket, an entire sponge? Years ago when we had a young rambunctious dog, I was doing some repotting on a table on my back porch using that crystal gel stuff and had to leave the job unfinished. Our dog apparently thought that crystal stuff smelled edible because she gobbled it down and she ended up with a blockage in her intestines that required expensive surgery to remove. So sponge is not only cheaper but safer! Also I love the look of sphagnum moss too! Seems like a nice thick layer of this will hold moisture better also.
