Do to the bad design of a sharp right angle Venturi. It clogs after 2-3 weeks and have to take completely apart. Basics 101 you never design a sharp right angle venturi for just that reason. So now their NEW Maxspect model coming out an Orange unit has the industry standard they all have. Always a short straight large tube. Which removes this problem. I have designed and used protein skimmers since 2000 and this should of never been designed this way(imho). The good news is if they are responsible a Retro fit could be easily designed to fix this. Let's Hope they do the right thing.

Was able to fix mine and bypass the right angle removing it. This is not recommended for most as Maxspect can easily replace the ill fated part with a replacement piece a lot easier.

Hi. Can you share your experience of removing the angle part? Do you have some pictures? How is performance affected?

@@m00ds Don't have any after I cut those off. But it does not clog and worked fine. The other issue was salt creep from the base connection of the air. I removed the air silencer as the increase in noise was nothing and it took a bit of pressure off that base connection that leaked to try and not leak water as bad. That was an improvement also. In my opinion it was not the most efficient design but still an good working skimmer. best regards

the better question is how do you get salt creep in an air intake line? salt creep develops when the water dryers out. so why was there water in the air intake line in the first place?

same defective design, at the bottom the connection of the twin air lines leak water there. In comes the salt. I removed the to air diffuser to try and take off pressure. bad design that is why the orange model changed everything but smaller. The company is a one time sales promo. All they care about is the initial sale. After that nothing. They could of easily fixed these areas for near nothing.
