This was day 2 of our mine exploring trip. Despite the temperatures exceeding 100 degrees again we headed up the mountain to check out this former gold, silver, lead and copper mine. This mine was first discovered in 1902 and met its ultimate demise in 1941 at the advent of WW2. This was a surprisingly extensive mine and we got tons of underground time especially at the third highest adit. Hope you enjoy!
Here's the link to Owen's video, he depicts more of a cinematic experience:

Among other things I am a retired Lode Miner and have worked in the area your exploring in so I'd advise that you get a Geiger Counter as there are many Radioactive Uranium and Cobalt Mines in that area, also Radon Gas accumulates in low parts of Mines and Dead Critters can indicate Radon, takes repeated exposure to do the most harm but long term and repeated exposure can kill or cause Cancer. You can get a cheap one for under $100 on like amazon or ebay. Dead Air takes only seconds to kill so the rats probably died from long term Radon Gas Exposure. If you don't have an Oxygen Monitor, in Mines that do not have flammable gas you can use a bic lighter to test Oxygen, normal flame good air, medium tall flame is low air and a long tall flame or no flame on a known good lighter is very little to no air and run fast the way you came in. Be Safe. I enjoy your Videos.

Great video. The guys who worked at this mine were craftsmen compared to other ones I’ve seen in videos. The ore chutes, timbering, man-ways, etc., were super well constructed.

Love your channel. Way back when I was much younger, I explored ghost towns and mines all over very southern Arizona. Pretty much south of I-10, like Dragoon, Gleeson, etc. One issue was all the unmarked vertical openings that would be very easy to fall into if not paying attention. This was back in the mid 1980's (yeah I'm old). Loved those days of exploration. Hey, one thing that saved my joints and skin was light knee pads and elbow pads. Really saved my skin when needing to brace up against the rocks. Anyway, keep up the good stuff!

Awesome video sharpness. The tram towers were cool and so was that small sheave wheel. Bummer you didn't go down the winze. Big mine with so much to document and so little time. Great explore Jerith.

“Oh! There’s the bull wheel for the tramway!” So… where’s the bull wheel for the tramway? I guess that one got past you. Old engine blocks are a dime a dozen. Bull wheels are gold.

That was kind of a weird edit. One second, you are crawling up the 430 manway, next second you are outside hiking back down. Was there nothing up there to film?
@WesternMineDetective
@WesternMineDetective Жыл бұрын
Nope not really there was another manway going up but it ended in a total collapse. Huge boulders blocking the way. I could have recorded but it was so dang hot I didn't feel like it.
