What this game does so well in relation to Cloud and Aerith is Cloud has been a hardass to basically everyone to this point. He’s no nonsense, cracks a joke here and there but mostly is very about his business. Aerith absolutely refuses to let him do that and makes him take down his wall. And he is so captured by her that he indulges her in her silliness. When she tells him she talks to flowers, he indulges her and talks to them too. It’s really great character development

This whole Aerith portion of the game was so beautiful, sad, and peaceful. I just took it slow.. I don't know if people that haven't played FF7 would feel the same thing.

Aerith got me the feels in this remake. She's innocent but will scrap if she gets cornered. And she took the initiative to take Cloud as a boyfriend...I mean bodyguard. This chapter has everything so far.

I love the Aerith swearing bit. It humanizes her in a way that's actually really subtle. Here's this cute, somewhat erratic girl who (as Max puts it) is the sole beacon of hope in the entirety of damn Midgar, but she's also just a person doing her best at the moment, just like everyone else. I've known girls exactly like this, the pure innocent do gooder type, and I've reacted to them swearing in much the same way as Aerith, where my brain stops for a second, then I just laugh at how unexpected it was and end up liking them more.

I had never played FF7 as a kid. It never once interested me, even though many of my friends in all stages of my life raved about it. I decided to watch this series on a whim, simply because of Max's passion and love for this game and his journey that led to it. This scene with Aerith at the church, with that underscore of piano is what completely sold me, and here I am now, finally experiencing the journey first-hand for myself, after watching Max's full play-through. I doubt Max will see this, but I wanted you to know your love and excitement for this game brought me so much joy and appreciation for one of the greatest games I have ever played. From the story, to the characters, to the music; all of it has impacted me in such a way that I had not experienced in a long time. Thank you Max. Shine on, my friend.

I love the direct juxtaposition of Marle telling Cloud in the sector 7 slums that he has to learn to talk to Tifa and not just "go through the motions," and here Cloud is telling the flowers "learn to talk to her" when referring to Aerith. As much as I'm a Tifa man, it's so undeniable to see how Aerith has such a gigantic impact on Cloud's development as a human being, and that connection kind of makes me believe that Cloud and Aerith are the intended pairing, much to mine and millions of other people's dismay. God man, the characters in this game are just so damn amazing.

I knew the remake was going to add a lot to the characters, but I was in no way prepared to enjoy Aerith's company this much. I think... I think I'm in love.

Remember Max, Angeal didn't kill his mother. She killed herself while Angeal watched.

The music that plays in sector 5 is the ending theme: "Hollow". Interesting...I think this might be the only other time this theme plays in the game. If you read the lyrics you have to wonder about the choice to play it in sector 5. And when does it kick in? Not when you first arrive, but when you leave her at the orphanage. Foreshadowing regret for not going in with her? But then, it does continue after she rejoins you, so maybe no greater connection at all (?)

I've heard many people refer to all the side-quests as "filler content" but honestly its WAY better than heading out to the world map and running in a circle for an hour to level up.

Just want to comment on the little things. Around 1h 6m into the video you see Aerith hand Cloud a basket. The devs chose to show the handoff of the basket. Everybody cheats on that kind of thing because it takes a hell of a lot of animation effort to do stuff like that. The devs of this game went the hard way because it looks better. The hand off is a little rough. It almost looks natural. That is a lot of dedication and effort for something that very few people will appreciate. It really looks like the FF7 Remake team spared no effort on this game.

I've not finished the game yet, Chap 13, but so far this was my favourite chapter. I've always been team Tifa but this game got me falling for Aerith hard. She's so sweet and her opposite to Cloud is fucking perfect. The first 30 mins of the video is so far my favourite section of the game.

I love the interaction between Cloud and Aerith so much I almost forget that there's only one way this can end...no, no, happy thoughts, happy thoughts.

With the rooftop scene they take a 5 second scene where run across some rooftops and make into an extended sequence that establishes Aerith’s personality and starts building a relationship between her and Cloud. It’s beautifully done. Say what you want about the changes to the story, but damn, the character work in this game is stunning.

When you’re using Assess, the description in yellow gives the actual tip on pressuring and staggering the enemy. Use that along with its elemental weakness to make it easier to defeat enemies.

5 minutes of character building on the rooftops. The devs did a _perfect_ job drawing out the moment. You're so close to tears listening to the music and watching the two interact, and then you smile and laugh at the perfect moment. This game is just... amazing.

20 years later, as a grown ass man. I still was not emotionally ready for this chapter. I just finished the game as I followed along with Max, cause he has the same love for this game as I do. THIS, is the Square we know and love. I'll probably be 40 by the time it's completed, but man, what a journey it's been huh? They recaptured that magic in spades.

I’ve been playing video games for 24 years and I have NEVER had a fictional character legit make me fall in love with them. Aerith was absolutely PERFECT in this game!! As someone that never played the original I didn’t know what to expect with this game……and not only is it one of my favorite games of all time, but Aerith has now become my favorite character of all time.

I think Clouds voice acting is done really well seeing as Cloud is so quiet and barely speaks anyway

This game has so much to explore. Your playthrough also helped me spot all of the crates, materia and doors that I've missed the first time around, but I guess that's what second playthroughs are for.
