For those who were confused like I was, most sites will tell you that, for example, a good value for EC is 2. Nobody ever points out that the unit in this case is milliSiemens per centimeter. So I was a bit shocked when I put my meter in my kratky container that my tomatoes and eggplants are happily growing in and got a number of around 2200 to 2390. He mentions it in the video, but I'll once again point out that this unit gives its value in microSiemens per centimeter. Translation: divide the number you get by 1,000 to get the number you'll typically see. So in my case, my water was around 2.2 - 2.4, which is right on the border for both tomatoes (almost too high) and eggplants (a tad too low). Translation: if you're doing hydroponics like I am, it's probably best to group things you want to grow by their ph and not mix them all together. I'm glad to finally at least have numbers around what I've been doing.

I'm sure other growers would like to hear how well the brown stuff works. Maybe you could let us know? Also, I'd love to know the name of it, etc. Thanks!

Is the meter need to be calibrated before using pH meter?

Would this device be good for telling pH of hot sauce?

hi there just bought your meter im making liquid fertilizer you think will help me fertilizer is dark brown
@aero-gro9 ай бұрын
Hi Rodney - Yes, the meter can measure pH, which is critical in the preparation of fertilizer. You want the fertilizer to be balanced AFTER adding the nutrients. Most nutrients tend to be acidic, so the pH will drop. Your meter will tell you how far off of the target pH you are so that you can make adjustments using pH UP or pH DOWN solution. As far as measuring concentration, you will need to simply follow the instructions on the bottle that explains how much to add. The meter (when used in TDS mode) can measure the concentration of nutrients in water, but only if the nutrients are salt-based. It sounds like your nutrients may be organic, which is why you would simply follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Hope that helps!

TDS is measured based on ppm500 or ppm700 scale?
@aero-gro10 ай бұрын
This meter is for measuring on the 500 ppm scale - which is meant for salts and solids in water. The 700 ppm scale is specifically for measuring Potassium Chloride.

I don't know. How to calibrate for tds ??
@aero-gro8 ай бұрын
You need to buy what'a called "1413 Calibration Standard" from the your favorite online retailer (sorry, I don't sell it). Step 1: Pour some 1413 in a clean jar,. Step 2: Place your meter in EC mode (display will show μS/cm). Step 3: Dip the meter into the 1413 solution, then press AND HOLD the "CAL" button for at least 5 seconds, then release. Step 4: While keeping the probe in the solution, use the up and down arrows on the meter keypad to adjust the displayed number until it reads "1413." Wait for it to stop blinking. You're done!

So the true reading is only when it’s in the water for 5 seconds if it keeps dropping the longer you hold it in the water is the wrong reading ?
@aero-gro11 ай бұрын
The meter will stabilize within a few points usually after about 5-10 seconds. The rate of stabilization really depends on how far the pH swing is when the meter is submerged. It takes longer for the meter to "hone-in" on the reading when the pH is either unusually high or unusually low. Hopefully that makes sense. If not, just give me a call: 610.657.8800
