So, on this simulation example would the intruder's TCAS emit a "Descend" alert as the simulated aircraft got a "Climb" alert?
@Aerosavvy
@Aerosavvy 7 жыл бұрын
- Luiz If the intruder had TCAS, yes. The two systems would coordinate and agree on actions for each aircraft.

But if the intruder didn't have TCAS wouldn't you have just collided?
@RandomDavisPersonal
@RandomDavisPersonal 2 жыл бұрын
@@RachaelHepworth If the intruder didn't have TCAS then the system wouldn't activate at all, so unless they saw each other in time or were otherwise informed of the impending collision, then yeah the collision would happen. Both aircraft have to have TCAS activated. Look up the Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 crash for an example of both planes having TCAS but one of them accidentally having it deactivated. Neither plane got any TCAS warnings before the collision.

TCAS will only sound alternating resolution advisories if both aircraft are equipped with mode S transponders, if one aircraft has mode S and another aircraft a different type of transponder, the aircraft with mode S will still sound a “Traffic, Traffic” advisory but no RA will occur as the aircrafts transponders have no way to communicate with each other

If he wasn't at your altitude (continued at (+05) would the alarm still warning you sir? Does the alarm just warns you when it turns yellow?
@Aerosavvy
@Aerosavvy 8 жыл бұрын
If both aircraft are perfectly level, a 500 feet vertical separation would probably generate a "Traffic, Traffic" Advisory (TA) then possibly a "monitor vertical speed" caution that warns the pilot not to change altitude toward the oncoming traffic. The symbol changing to yellow coincides with the Traffic Advisory (TA). When the symbol turns red, the pilot will receive a Resolution Advisory (RA).

AeroSavvy, I was under the impression that by regulations a 1000 feet vertical separation is the minimum to only generate a TCAS TA. At 500 feet vertical separation I would expect a TCAS RA. Curious to know if I got it wrong perhaps.

What if atc asks one airline to do the opposite like the dhl crash? Do you ignore and follow tcas?
@Aerosavvy
@Aerosavvy 2 жыл бұрын
All pilots operating TCAS equipment have been trained to ignore anything ATC says after a TCAS Resolution Advisory is triggered. We follow TCAS guidance. After the crew receives “clear of conflict” from the system, we notify ATC so we can follow their instructions.

@beerbrewer7372
@beerbrewer7372 3 жыл бұрын
@Aviskyer Generally you are correct. There are times when the APU is operated the entire flight. On the 737 there are 3 generators (one on each engine and the APU) to legally dispatch the aircraft you need two. So if the #1 generator failed and maintenance deferred the aircraft would operate the APU the entire flight. The sound you hear in the background in the cockpit is (amongst other things)the airflow from the PACKS.
