I'm so glad you reacted to this and you really gave an excellent description of what was going on with it musically. The reason it sounded like a sitar at the beginning, is because Joe Perry was playing these kind of Oriental or Eastern sounding scales. This song is from their very first album by the same name as the band. And by the way, every song on that first album is absolute fire. But this is as young as you will ever hear Steven Tyler. That's why it's interesting to hear all the songs on the album. But at any rate, like you said he has a good range and he's got that wonderful low tone and he has such incredible control; he does those big slides up over an octave to a ninth. And yeah that total fried out rock and roll belt is incredible and it's an iconic part of this song. And what I also love about his voice was he was always good at having a lot of resonance in it.

Thank you Jim and thank you Ang for the reaction!! I think this is the first Aerosmith song I ever heard, and it was kind of cool because at the same time Gary Wright had a hit song on the radio called "Dreamweaver", so everything good was all about dreams at the time!! "Crying", "Crazy" and "Amazing" is a great trio of songs by this band and "Deuces Are Wild" is another song you will enjoy! Cheers!!

This song is generally recognized as the first big "power ballad" and got massive airplay on radio. Even though it's a rock band and the arrangement is guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, it was very orchestral and dramatic in its sound and opened the door for endless imitators.

You might want to listen to a young Russian singer - Diana Ankudinova who is 18 years old in this video, singing a very unique cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. She's a contralto, and a commanding stage presence. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5hodtCj3ZPNZXU.html This performance was from a Russian show that aired in the fall of 2021, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history.

Nice! A proper reaction to an incredible song. It is a bit hard for me to process that someone could not be aware of this song. Although it makes sense that if you weren't exposed to it, you wouldn't know it. It's just that it is a song that has been ingrained in my head for so long. It does make it very interesting though to watch someone experience it for the first time.

Angela, great to see you grooving to the song; much like they did in the studio when they recorded it back some 50 years ago. Other than the obvious respect to Steven Tyler's vocals, was his songwriting of this song. Even though it was on piano, you never hear one on this track; only other types of keyboards. Joe Perry and Bradley Whitford do a great job on dual lead guitars for this track. Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer do a great job on bass and drum filling out this track. Completely haunting song for the ages! Great reaction, as only you can do!

This is where the story of The Bad Boys from Boston starts. It still continues to this day, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer, the five original members, okay, okay there was Ray Tabbano before Brad, but the core crew has Rocked The World for over 50 years, and it was always a great show, at least the ones I saw, from 1975 to 2001. "Dream On" was an early composition for Tyler (real last name Tallarico), even before he was in Aerosmith. The band name was "invented" by Drummer Joey Kramer one day in High School, when he was daydreaming about his future. Other great songs from their earlier albums: "One Way Street", "Make It", "Movin' Out", "Lord Of The Thighs", "S.O.S. (Too Bad)", "Train Kept A Rollin' ', "Walk This Way", "No More No More", "Adam's Apple", "Back In The Saddle", "Nobody's Fault", "Rats In The Cellar" and "Combination". And there's plenty more where that came from.

Interestingly enough, Steven Tyler wrote this song when he was 14. Such a profound song to come from such a young mind. Living in Boston for many years, i can attest to all the great muaic that originated here. I saw these guys live some time in the late 1980s, and it was a fantastic show. It was also the loudest rock concert i can remember attending, and that's saying somwthing! I had to find a bathroom and get some toilet paper to wad up and stuff in my ears. As a musician myself, ive always respected the real possibility of hearing loss from overexposure to very loud music (even though some music, like most Aerosmith songs is best played loud)!

Easily the best of Aerosmith, and I don’t mean that as a slight to the rest of their catalog. From the guitar to the drums to the vocals. The waver in Steven Tyler’s voice in the verses is killer, and the pounding two notes of the pre-chorus, all building to a crescendo with the repeated refrain of dream on. One of the all-time great rock songs.
