Eddie's also spot on, Night in the Ruts (1979) is underrated as hell, loaded with bluesy heavy rock

Nights production is one of the reasons for it's unpopular release..

eing 37 years old, I first heard the later Aerosmith albums starting with Pump. When I decided to explore their 70's releases I started with Rocks after reading that it was Slash's favorite Aerosmith record. Upon first listen I was just blown away by the raunchy, heavy rock n' roll mixed with blues sounds of each track. Not long afterwards I listened to Toys in the Attic expecting to hear an even better record, as a lot of fans and critics rank it as the absolute pinnacle of Aerosmith's discography. All I remember is being completely shocked by how tame the sound was compared to Rocks. Take away Round and Round and the two mega hits (Walk this way/Sweet Emotion) and the rest of the album just seems to just sputter. I feel like it's very much a "you had to have been there" type of record, because without any Nostalgia to boost the tracks it just isn't a heavy hitter compared to Rocks in my opinion.

Big 10 Inch is good and a little funky, but I also prefer Rocks (especially the second half). We're close in age (41 and I've been an Aero fan since the early 90s from the big hits)

Toys has absolutely no filler, Rocks has some darker underrated heavy songs though, as Eddie was saying

I wish Trunk's Top 20 commentary (and other bands like VH and KISS) was still on here. The uploaders account got deleted a few years ago

They’re both great because they both represent Aerosmith at their best which was earlier on in the 70s. The real question should be a comparison of 70s Aerosmith with Mid 80s MTV era Aerosmith. I was surprised how many people prefer the 80s crap, barely aware that Aerosmith even existed prior to “Janie’s Got a Gun”.

Hair metal era Aerosmith (Dude looks like a lady, Love in an elevator) got me to dig into the earlier records though

Rocks. Although Eddie likes to go on a tangent about his personal opinion every 2 minutes, I enjoy hearing his stories.
