I find these reviews very calming and incredibly enjoyable. You’ve very quickly become my go-to source for reviews and I’m likely to purchase an aircraft to be honest if you suggest it’s ok. Haven’t really done that in the past but yeah, your format and your obvious professional context lends a demonstrable and clear validity to your views for what is, at the end of the day, a sim. Cheers.

Thanks very much Mark! Very kind words all-round and very much appreciated. I never actually set out to create a “review channel” haha, but I basically just try and show what I, as a simmer, would like to see. I generally try my best not to influence people’s decisions, rather just to demonstrate the addon for what it is. I think even more importantly (to me at least), I’m happy you enjoy the flights! For me that’s where the fun of making these videos comes from; I like to try and create scenarios that are interesting in their own right, with the review taking place alongside. I’m sure there are still many ways I can continue to refine my videos, reviews and channel, but I’m really happy you’re enjoying the content and once again I very much appreciate your sentiment! Thanks again and all the best : )

I flew the Twin Otter while in the RCAF, three years out of Edmonton, two years out of Yellowknife, including time on Medium flotation tires, wheel/skis, and floats.I was very much looking forward to the Aerosoft Twin Otter. But I'm very disappointed, and will not be purchasing this product. This aircraft is pretty well defined by its engines, as are the Turbo Beaver, Porter PC 6, TMB 930, and many other PT-6 powered airplanes. For heaven's sake, when an engine shuts down, it automatically feathers, as oil pressure drives the propeller to finer pitch. How almost all reviewers ignore this, while discussing texturing in the wheel wells is beyond me. I'm sticking to the excellent Milviz Porter, thanks very much.

Mate the milviz porter is an absolute beast. Actually even more detailed than the Kodiak in some ways. You're absolutely right for the feathering on the Twotter. This plane needs proper pt 6 simulation, then it would be perfect. It doesn't need to be study level, but the pt6s are the heart of that machine.

Thanks for the review. I have bought the Twin Otter knowing that the limitations that you have brought up might be there. However, as you say it is fun to fly and I am really enjoying exploring in this aircraft. I am most interested in the cockpit experience rather than the outside texturing so I am mostly happy. Let's hope that Aerosoft continues working on it and bring some upgrades as time goes on.

My pleasure once again Peter - thanks for watching! The Twin Otter really seems to have divided the community and indeed I even have split opinions myself haha. From a “simmers” standpoint, it’s a shame to see Aerosoft apparently go down the road of catering to a more casual crowd. That being said, I’m really enjoying the aircraft despite its shortfalls and like you, I’m only really interested in what’s going on inside. There are definitely some improvements that could be made to the aircraft and I gather a patch is on the way. Maybe / hopefully Aerosoft will consider “Xbox” releases and then “Extended” releases in the future. Cheers! Happy flying : )

"It could be user error on my part, but I can't seem to get the prop to actually feather." I'm actually really glad you caught this and mentioned it. YOU CAN'T. Feathering is not actually modeled for, get this, Xbox compatibility reasons. It's not just the lack of systems modeling (re: autofeather, if you had tooltips on it would show INOP when you mouse over it. That entire engine check panel is INOP except the test light), but it turns out that features and animations were actually excluded and cut to make sure it works on Xbox. It's not just "not a study level" plane, it's been actively hamstrung for consoles. I was willing to wait for a patch to the sounds and the bugs, like the outbound CDI. I was making peace with not being able to follow the checks IN THE PROVIDED MANUAL because the test systems aren't modeled (the official Aerosoft answer is: "we'll change the manual"). But finding out it's actively been hampered for Xbox reasons? I sought and was granted a refund from Aerosoft. This is NOT what I was expecting from them in the slightest, and it's actually really shaken my confidence in them as third party devs. I understand the market is now about 50/50 PC/Xbox. I wish them well in the market as a whole, but if this is the price for it, their planes are not for me.

I really don’t understand this “slash quality for sake of console compatibility” mentality alot of developers and games seem to have adopted. It’s like gaming is regressing rather than progressing. Why can’t they make the features INOP for Xbox and functional for PC? Isn’t it just a matter of disabling said features for Xbox rather than not implement them at all? Agree with your conclusion; it’s making me lose confidence in developers if they can’t figure out how to deliver a product that makes the fullest for the platform it is used on, rather than cut everything back to the lowest common denominator, ie the consoles.

Ok this is a bit of an interesting one. I bought it on release but there's a couple of things missing here. 1) no feather animations and bad prop textures compared to Milviz or SWS and then the sound is a tad off and clunky. For the rest its very good. This plane is a lot of fun and has potential to become something great, but aerosoft needs to step it up a notch on these things. Having no prop feather animations is like having no flap animations nowadays. Either way, the competition for good quality turboprops is getting intense and judging for how long this plane was in development, it clearly wasn't a massive priority for them as they had plenty of time to build an amazing product. When I saw the release of the freeware PC6 in the game of the year edition (which was made by aerosoft ), I knew the twotter would show deficiencies. Hope they do some comprehensive updates to get it on par with the competition. For the rest its a great plane and a good addition to the hangar.

Not sure where my other comment went (maybe removed because I had a link to their forums) but it won't be fixed. The lack of prop feathering is just one of the many casualties needed to make it compatible with the Xbox.

Spot on Joni! The Twin Otter is great fun and I for one am enjoying it a lot, but it could have been so much more than it is currently (and probably ever will be by the sounds of it). It sounds like Aerosoft have made up their minds about which direction they want to take (going for Xbox / mass sales) and whilst it’s a little bit disappointing to see them ditch the “simming” community quite so readily, at least they are upfront about it. I guess MSFS is going to mark a “changing of the guard” to some degree, with Captainsim, Aerosoft et al now catering to the Xbox, and SWS, FlyingIron etc moving in to fill the void. I’m sure Aerosoft will patch the aircraft up to a “quality” state, but it sounds like they won’t ever be looking to get it to a “simulation” state. Again great, balanced post. Cheers!

There are some other great twins out there though: If you’re after a turboprop, there’s the Black Square Analog King Air and if you’re after a twin more generally, there’s the Carenado Beech 18 (with the Denarq mod), the FSW C414 and the BlackBox Islander (although graphically, the Islander does look rather dated), all of which are decent mid-sized twins : ) All the best!

a good example of the lack of "failure modelling" is the fact that you can start the engines with the boost pumps turned off, which doesn't work in the real world because the fuel tanks are underneath the floor and the engines are on the wings, so they can't be gravity fed. in a livestream one of the devs stated that they deliberately chose not to model what happens "when the pilot does wrong things", so, mission acomplished, i guess.

@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Certainly a valid point Bernard. For me personally, I don’t mind (for this level of addon) when something can be operated incorrectly, so much as when it cannot be operated correctly, if that makes sense. Ie the fuel pump issue doesn’t really bother me, as I will just operate them in accordance with the checklist, but the feathering issue does bother me, because I can’t feather the props period. We’re all different of course. From what I’ve heard / read though, it doesn’t (disappointingly) sound as though Aerosoft is too bothered about catering to simmers on this one and quite possibly on their future releases. . . All the best!
@BernardLangham
@BernardLangham 2 жыл бұрын
@@IntotheBlueSimulations i'm also pretty sad about the lack of feathering support. my immediate response would have been, "well, the DC-6 has feather support, so what's the problem?" on further research, however, it appears that PMDG ran into a nightmarish situation on the console where the xbox version of the DC-6 was utterly broken, literally couldn't be started, guages didn't work etc, and they had to pull it from the marketplace and offer refunds. the xbox-only bugs were due entirely to undisclosd "limitations" in the console version of the simulator. (disclosure: i honestly thought the codebase would be pretty much identical across platforms, since the xbox is really just a locked-down pc, but apparently not). so, to cut Aerosoft some slack, it seems that console support is more problematic that one might have thought--which is of course entirely MS/Asobo's fault, and not the addon devs'.

The actual engines sounds though, I thought (whilst overly loud) were okay (but again I seem to be in the minority haha). I gather an update for the product is being worked on, but as ever with these sorts of things; if it’s already getting a significant update, then it wasn’t ready for release! I agree that the Twin Otter has not lived up to the hype. I do think though that some of the hype was community-induced. You’re most welcome Coenraad! Hmm (sadly) that’s a tougher call than most were perhaps expecting (since the Twin Otter was expected to far surpass the Islander originally). Graphically there’s no contest, the Twotter is far superior, it also has a slight edge on the systems front. I would say right now I’m enjoying the Twin Otter more, but just to throw a spanner in the works, the Islander is due to get a “study level” systems upgrade (according to the dev). I agree that either one would be a nice addition to the virtual hangar. Neither aircraft is ground-breaking, but island hopping in the sim is fun and they both tick that box. I would say perhaps wait and see what Black Box have in mind for the Islander upgrade (although I’ve no idea how long that is due to take) and then reassess. . . @@IntotheBlueSimulations Thanks again. Aye seen that video, some crazy flying right there, zero room for error. You know, i ened up with the Islander, and imo, yes it is fun, but tbh i wish i had taken the Twotter haha. The visuals don't bother me that much, however what does bother me is the wonky flight model. The nose popping up at very low airspeeds and the near 2000ft/m climb rate at WoT. Even at climb setting climbs closer to 1300ft instead of 800-900ft/m. The climb rate at cruise setting (20") is actually closer to the proper climb rate. And the landing is also a bit weird, on how she changes pitch very agressvely with throttle adjustments. 1 stage flaps also does feel like it ads too litle drag. Once stablished on the aproach and stuff she does behave well, and she sounds great and the cruise itself, is actually rather pleasant. I asked on the MFS forums yesterday and the devs replied that the climb performance is something they will look at and rectify when the "study level" update will happen, so i don't feel that bad. But may end up with the Twotter to fly untill that update comes after all haha. Edit: Little edit. I just fly her now at 25" on takeoff and 20" for climb, and that is actualy quite alright. I just pretend 25-30 does not exist. Did a nice flight to Adelaide. Went really nice. Bit bumpy over the mountains. (btw that swinging cable in the ceiling is a really cool touch)

Ah well I wouldn’t feel too much buyers remorse. As I say, there isn’t too much difference between the two aircraft in terms of quality; they both have their ups and downs and the Twotter’s flight model is hardly a bastion of accuracy either haha. Sounds like quite a cool little adventure overall though! I did cover most of Oz as part of a world tour a few years ago - gosh it’s big and empty haha! But it’s also beautiful and desert environments tend to be some of the best looking in the sim (even where the photo-imagery quality isn’t stellar, it’s hard to notice when the landscape is fairly uniform anyway). I’m sure there is a mod for the Islander’s flight model somewhere out there, unless your purchased from the Marketplace? Hopefully the dev does fix things up. He will have to really, if he wants to call the aircraft study level. . . Believe it or not, the engine power has already been reduced on at least one occasion (and I think maybe even two) XD Aaaanyway, happy flying! : )

Oh no no, I didn’t necessarily think that you were Charlie (though equally it wouldn’t be entirely unfair to have done so), but I thought you raised a very fair point. Generally in my previews, I try not to be too critical of a product, as who knows what might change between the video and release. Unfortunately that’s the issue though, I’m none the wiser than anyone else. I thought the Twin Otter was coming along very nicely, but I was also expecting to see all of the rough edges rounded off (figuratively and literally haha). I’m quite surprised we didn’t see that from Aerosoft (I’ve enjoyed many of their products in the past) and I think we know now why that is. . . So I got a little bit caught out myself. Unfortunately I don’t see an optimal workaround for these sorts of situations, but perhaps in the future I will make mention that “whilst it’s pre-release and we can expect improvements before release, equally there may not be any). Thanks for your review, as always insightful. My P3d Twotter has full sets of failures operated via the fully interactive checklist, via Shift 2. The engine fire procedures also enable a fully feathering prop. Since I kept P3d on my PC, I won't need to purchase the Twin Otter again. I'm still looking for a simulation that I can buy and genuinely say, "Wow"! That's an impressively accurate sim. I'd like the Mjc Dash 8 Q400, maybe? Now that would be something?

I figured I would finally get to experience it in MSFS, but it would seem not. . . I hear very good things about the Majestic Dash 8 for sure. I don’t know if you’re an X-Plane man at all, but the Hotstart Challenger 650 seems to be getting some rave reviews (touted as “the most study level aircraft ever” etc)! Personally, I'm having fun with this aircraft. I didn't get hyped about it and didn't really follow the development. Is it currently as good as the SWS Kodiak? No. Does it have a lot of potential? Yes! To be honest, the Xbox compatibility stuff doesn't really bother me that much. It'd be ideal if AS does an "Extended" version for PC only, but if not, I'm not too upset. Whether we want to admit it or not, there is a LOT of revenue in the Xbox market and those who fly MSFS on that platform deserve good addons too. I'm not excusing AS for omitting things JUST to make it compatible with the Xbox, however. Hopefully the first update address a lot of the niggly things like sound blending and things. Overall I'm pretty satisfied!

Very nicely put Liam! I agree with all of that. I am enjoying the Twin Otter for what it is, having a lot of fun with it so far. All of your points are valid as I say. I think the main reasons Aerosoft have taken a bit of a beating on this one; 1) Some of their “concessions” sound rather questionable. 2) I think people feel a bit neglected, that they’ve been supporting the company all of these years, only for Aerosoft to turn around and follow the $$ (which of course they’re inclined to do, but it perhaps could have been done a little more “sympathetically”). It seems to me that going forward, the obvious thing to do (as you have also suggested) would be to have an “Xbox version” and an “Extended version” - keep both sides happy. Cheers and all the best! : )

Ya know, after all I’ve seen and read, I think Aerosoft will not be getting my money. I was looking forward to the Otter, but it’s clear that Aerosoft are one of those developers that are not moving with the times and upping their game to the higher standards that are now possible. I’m sure their will make a good amount of money from the casuals that don’t know any better or don’t care, but their reputation in the flight sim community will be damaged by this lack of care and that’ll do attitude. I’ll be sticking to the much higher quality Kodiak for now and unless they release a Extended version with less bugs and more features it’ll stay that way, I’ve spent more than enough on this sim and it has to be good to make me spend any more.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
I fear they are “moving with the times” WhiteHawk, but unfortunately their move (in this particular case) seems to be with an eye towards the Xbox. . . On a personal level the modelling, texturing etc didn’t really bother me. But the abrupt engine sound changes are bizarre (I really thought that was just an “early-access” issue) and not being able to feather a prop just seems crazy - Carenado have been pulling that one off for over a year now (I still maintain they aren’t nearly so bad these days haha!). I gather people have been trying to reach out to Aerosoft regarding some of the issues, but not been warmly received. I can never understand why devs take feedback personally; having your audience care about the product you’ve created is a good thing - embrace it! You make a good point: If Aerosoft want to cater to the Xbox crowd (and that is genuinely the reason the product has been hamstrung), then they would do well to release Extended versions of their products at a later date, for PC simmers. I’m not sure I buy the story about the Xbox “not being capable” etc though. . . All the best!

Yesterday I read a post from someone at Aerosoft about why they won't be making extended versions anymore. According to AS 99% of the MSFS market don't care and won't pay extra for it. At least we now know exactly how they feel. Those of us who want deep systems and aerodynamic accuracy need to stick with P3D and X-Plane for now. Let's see how PMDG and Milviz do with their upcoming releases.

I enjoy the plane a lot. Noticed two issues though. The IAS doesn’t seem to work. And when you turn on “Intake Anti-Ice” it lowers torque on the left engine only, even though there is only one switch for both engines. So either torque is bugged or anti-ice is not working on right engine.

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hi. I'm looking for a General Aviation study level airplane which has plenty of systems to learn and is capable to fly on some fields as well as some bigger airports. Also it would be nice if the aircraft has a higher cruise speed and is capable of flying at higher altitudes. I spent yesterday watching your videos about the Twin Otter, Kodiak 100, Cessna 414, Cessna 310, Boeing 247, Ju52 and the Pilatus PC-6 (which I own as a model plane :D) I think the Cessna 414 suits me best bcs it's highly detailed and the pressurized cabin as well as the piston engines make it interesting to operate. Secondly the retractable gear and the TDS GTN 750 capability make it a really useful aircraft with good instrumentation and a high cruise speed. I also like the checklist and walk-around features very much. The closest competitor was the Cessna 310 which is is basically fully modelled with even the circuit breakers operating. The thing holding me back here is that the aircraft has too few systems to operate watching your review it felt like a big Cessna 172. Also it's slower and doesn't quite reach the same altitudes as the C414. I do like the fault system as well as the "rental" cold and owned states. The Kodiak 100 and the PC-6 have to few systems and dials to be interesting. The Twin Otter and the Ju52 are just barely enough modelled to fly. And they also have this convenient unrealisticness. Like, the Ju52 instantly fires up and lifts off to easily and the Twin Otter has only the switches modelled it needs to fly so all the "alternate" positions are useless. Third is the Boeing 247 has a nice engine Modell, however it's navigation equipment is so outdated it's barely usable and the sounds are really monotone and not immersive. I have the DC-6 and that is more immersive, has a better engine Modell and is more usable as it has modern navigation equipment and it has more dials. Also I'm not a big fan of those "Handpumps" in a simulator where I can't really touch the things. So those were my initial impressions. But I'd be really grateful to hear your opinion. Judging on my thoughts what aircraft would you recommend?
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
I think going off your specifications, I’d come to the same conclusions as you did there. The MILVIZ C310 is the best of the GA bunch overall but in terms of systems, it is basically just a C172 with two engines haha. The C414 is an excellent product. Just bear in mind that it’s still in early access at the moment, so the finished product is still an unknown quantity (though it’s unlikely it’ll get worse and FSW have updated the textures and the sounds significantly since my review). Just a couple more suggestions / food for thought (although again, I think the 414 is probably your best bet); the HondaJet, C22J and the FlyingIron P38. Probably not exactly what you’re looking for, but they tick a lot of your boxes and are all excellent in their own right (though the HondaJet’s flight model is a little bit questionable at this time). I hope that helps a little and I’m really happy to hear you’re finding the content useful! Cheers and all the best : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations well the C414 has fixed all the bugs you found in your video. So I bought it ;) Really looking forward to trying out the TDS GTN750 after I saw you use it in your videos. As a general feedback I do really like the structure of your videos. One flight to get a feel how the experience will be and then a fair and balanced conclusion. What also helped me is that you always drew comparisons to other aircraft/development studios. That helped me to get an overview of what the general standard is after getting back into simming after 1 1/2 years. Also this way I found all the other aircraft which are worth considering. Anyway you helped me so let's see if I can get you a coffee.

Indeed, it sounds like that’s the way it’s going to have to be now: Aerosoft have seemingly decided that this addon is aimed more towards the Xbox (and they’re well within their rights to do that of course), which isn’t going to leave too many of the PC crowd happy. If they want to keep us “simmers” on board (maybe they do, maybe they don’t), then I think releasing basic versions for the Xbox and “Extended” versions for the PC is going to be the way to go. The Porter is a still a fine steed and when you you’re feeling lazy one day and want a nosewheel, you could do a lot worse than the Kodiak! ; ) I hope Aerosoft will take all of our feedback onboard. So far (from what I’ve heard) they haven’t been too receptive too it, but in fairness I think they have previously “huffed and puffed” and ultimately tend o get things fixed up anyway. . . Hi John, Happy to hear you’re enjoying the Twin Otter overall! I agree that it’s less than ideal when an aircraft doesn’t fully start up using CTRL-E, it rather defeats the point of the function if it doesn’t. Regarding the windshield wipers, that’s actually the norm rather than the exception. Currently the only aircraft in the sim (that I am aware of) with “working” windshield wipers, is the Fenix Airbus A320; by default, the sim doesn’t support visual removal of precipitation on the windscreen. The sounds in this thing just totally ruin it in its current state. There is almost no change in volume from 0 to around 60% power and then all of a sudden it changes to a higher rpm sound out of the blue. Very glaring and totally unacceptable. A total immersion killer imo. Also the AP has major issues. If you try to do a coupled ILS approach it attempts to kill you by pitching you into the ground if you go below a certain speed. ALT hold also is very twitchy. I give it a 5 out of 10 in its current condition. Having said that the modeling is very nice. But thats about it for positives in my book.

The engine sounds need fixing up for sure Tazer and I believe Aerosoft are working on a patch as we speak (of course this should have been seen to before release though). You’re correct re the autopilot as well - it seems to have an issue with control authority at low speed (doesn’t seem to be able to maintain altitude below about 110kts). ALT hold I found to be ok at cruise speed myself though. . . Personally I’m rather enjoying the aircraft, though it isn’t up to the standards I was expecting from Aerosoft. Hi Dan, Sorry for the slow reply. I’m not sure that it is / was (unless I’ve misremembered something in the video)? If memory serves me correctly, I too only only had run / cutoff. Technically I think these are condition levers, as opposed to mixture levers (like you’d see on a piston), so it’s most likely they wouldn’t be operated linearly. That being said, most condition levers I’ve come across have a cutoff, low-idle and high-idle position; so I’m not sure whether the Twin Otter is genuinely different in that regard, or whether Aerosoft chose not to model things correctly for simplicity’s sake. Long story short, my condition levers only move between “on” and “off” also. I hope that helps a bit? All the best! : )

A great video as always, thanks! Am i mistaken saying, that the GTN 530 was not included in the previous sims - P3D and FSX? Is there a VLOC tracking issue? Looking at the deflection on the HSI, it looked quite a bit off center on the from radial? Enjoyed your allusion re the Asobo AP! :) The props were not feathered (external camera) before start. I believe the P6t engines are started in feather to facilitate a faster rise in oil pressure? Maybe thats just an external model issue? Anyway, as you say, its not a study level sim, so we cant be to picky. Currently, tracking outbound from a radial is a bit of a no-no in the aircraft (no idea why) - apparently it’s due to be patched soon. Haha, well let’s call a spade a spade; the Asobo autopilot, may well be the only autopilot on the planet, that will actually do a worse job of flying the aircraft than me! : P You’re correct re the props being feather also. I did have them in the feathered position for the start, but it’s not currently modelled. In fact, it’s not even possible to feather the props in flight (a bit of a shocker)! I’ve got one, but find it unflyable with the sound mixing. The Aerosoft Twin Otter was fast becoming my favorite until I found a hole between the cockpit and the passenger compartment in VR. I reported this to them and finally was able to send them screen shots. Today they more or less told me that you are not supposed to be able to be between the cockpit and rest of the fuselage that there was nothing they were going to do about it. This is the last Aerosoft product that I will purchase. I already have the CRJ. I will not accept shoddy workmanship when I spend my money. I have the HP Reverb G2 VR Headset and I see a gaping hole when I am seated in the pilot's seat and look up and back at the overhead panel. You can see out of the aircraft and see No. 1 Engine also. Aerosoft's response was: But that view is only when you move your head through the wall, into the cabin. Ans as that simply is not possible in the real aircraft there is not a lot we can do about that. With friendly greetings, Mathijs Kok Aerosoft Customer Support

I’m sorry to hear that Ford. I can *somewhat* see both sides or the argument; perhaps Aerosoft had not anticipated people being able to look there, but of course as the user, you don’t want to be seeing a gaping hole etc! We all want quality customer service for our money, as well as quality products and sometimes flight sim devs seem oblivious to this. A large gap in the structure is not really acceptable, so I do hope Aerosoft will reconsider their stance, as they have done with other aspects of the aircraft. Despite its shortfalls, I very much enjoy the Twin Otter, as it seems you were. Sorry to hear it has since been somewhat tainted for you. Cheers and all the best!

At the moment, not too well unfortunately Piotr. Personally I am still very much enjoying the Twin Otter (it is good fun), however in technical terms there is a significant division between the two addons. The Kodiak, is incredibly refined; excellent modelling, texturing, sounds, flight modelling, good systems as well (+ some nice custom features). Everything is very nicely “polished”, making it one of the best addons currently available in the sim. The Twin Otter on the other hand, is decent enough in most areas, but there are certain aspects of the product that feel unfinished, namely the engine sounds. Aerosoft have quite openly stated that the Twin Otter has had its fidelity reduced, to “make it Xbox compatible”. I hope that helps. All the best! : )

Hi Carl, For what it’s worth, that was a lack of articulation on my part, as opposed to anything nefarious haha. What I really meant was “the cockpit sounds are excellent” - and indeed I think they are. Nice control sounds, switch sounds, systems sounds etc. I agree that the engine sounds need some work; they’re too loud (which I did neglect to mention) and a complete lack of blending, which I did make mention of a couple of times throughout the review in fairness. As far as affiliations go,; Aerosoft were kind enough to let me take a look at the product (again I was transparent about this), but otherwise it was my full and honest opinions as ever (I specifically warn any devs ahead of time, that this is what they will get from a review on the channel). I know the Twin Otter is far from perfect (and again I did point out quite a few flaws during the review - some of which I’m sure Aerosoft would rather I hadn’t), but I am genuinely enjoying it and honesty works both ways; I’m not going to pretend I dislike a product, just because I know many others don’t (not that I think you’re suggesting I should). Of course I will have opinions that others don’t agree with from time to time, but I can assure you my opinions on this channel are always my own. Either way, I’m super happy I helped you get into MSFS! Eh looks like a pass for me. Those audio transitions with engine changes are quite bad. Also AS have said the reason there's no feathering or trim wheel animations is because they were hitting memory limits for the Xbox so didn't implement them and I really don't like that. Never really been a fan of AS products over the years and that impression isn't really changing for me with their MSFS releases. Was hoping the Twotter would be good but the reception has been very mixed and eh. Oh well, got the Porter and Kodiak to keep me happy for turbo-props and I can spend the money I was saving on this on something else like AH's recent offerings or the Goose Big Radials have coming out soon which I hope will be good. Flying Iron also have a Hellcat in the works that looks quite nice and should be quite good judging from their earlier stuff. Wait. . . FlyingIron are doing a Hellcat?? Happy days! I’m a big Hellcat fan, been looking forward to one in the sim and as it’s FlyingIron, you pretty much know it’s going to be good already (I had hoped MILVIZ might do one, but this will be the next best thing). As I was saying to someone else in another thread; clearly the likes of Captainsim, Aerosoft et al have decided to take a change of course and whilst I think that’s a little disappointing (after all, who’s been supporting them for the last couple of decades), I’m not too concerned, as the new kids on the block (SWS, FlyingIron etc) seem to be doing it just as well, if not better. The Twin Otter is good fun, but it could have been so much more. A real shame that Aerosoft chose to hamstring it right off the bat. I was the same for the most part re warbirds / military stuff in civilian sims Megadyptes, but for whatever reason I’ve had a change of heart with MSFS too. Until they fix a list of stuff, this is a no buy for me. Sounds terrible, flight model on approaches is off. Can’t even make the tires round? Come on aerosoft. Whatd y’all do for two years while making this?

Understandable Jason and I don’t think you’re the only one in this position. It will be interesting to see how many of the issues do get fixed up - it seems Aerosoft are sticking by their principle of making it “Xbox compatible”. If they want to take that approach, then they ought to put out “extended” versions of the same product, for PC users. Personally I am enjoying the Twin Otter, but some of its omissions are not really forgivable in the modern age I agree. All the best!

Hi pgtrots, I must admit, I thought the sound issues would only be relevant to the preview version of the aircraft - I was quite surprised to see them still there at final release. Not what I was expecting from Aerosoft. . . Cheers!

Very true Killer. Sounds need patching, as do a number of other items. I believe Aeosoft are currently working on an update, but I was surprised to see the sounds release in the state that they did. . . Cheers!

My review for this aircraft: An unfinished product for an unfinished product. Asobo set the benchmark here by basically releasing an early acces title for full price. And everyone seems to be taking the same approach. It's really overpriced crap to be honest. The sounds are the most obvious reason to not buy this aircraft. But the flight moddeling itself is prety poor too. One moment if feels like a heavy brick and the other moment it's a paper plane. Msfs is becoming a rippoff simulator.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
That’s not an entirely unreasonable assessment Omar. Whilst I don’t feel quite as disillusioned as you do with MSFS, quality control in most things MSFS-related has been a bit all over the shop so far. The sim itself still needs a lot of work and quite a few of the addons we have seen are of questionable quality. Unfortunately, money seems to be dictating the course of the sim and there’s a lot of it coming from the more “casual” crowd apparently. . . All the best!

A horrible plane to fly maybe i have a different version to you because this most definitely isn't fun , flight dynamics defy logic and the trim is ********* waste of money
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I'm sure we have the same version Jenny - "fun" is subjective of course though. The Twotter definitely flies funny, almost fly by wire-esque at times, but I knew well ahead of the product's release, that sadly this was not going to be a high fidelity offering; I enjoy it for what it is though and I have had some genuinely enjoyable flights in it. Sorry that you feel it was money down the drain though - that's never fun! Perhaps best to park the Twotter up and go and enjoy some 310 shenanigans instead! ; ) All the best : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations well i disagree , i will be honest i consider it fraud, the flight dynamics are utterly wrong its is almost impossible to control speed and descent simultaneously, while ,i have flown it for a good few hours now one min can seem fine only to just change its behaviour on thr next flight so imho it i still think its the biggest pile of shit available if i could physically throw it in aerosofts face i would . while i may not be a pro pilot I don't have any issues like this from the arrow, Concorde, pmdg 737 the 146 or milviz porter only the otter

Aerosoft Why have you downgraded the fidelity aspect of the T/O on PC platforms, you have and are attracting a great deal of disappointment in the PC Platform community, you have done this to favour X Box users and completely dumbed down what could have been a world beating add on - shame on you all for greed and sales, FYI I will never buy another Aerosoft product, much of the fidelity that you could have installed simply is not modeled like inflight engine feathering and a no of other engine related controls /tests that are not modeled. you need to have honesty and integrity to clearly advise PC users don't waste their money on gaming compatible products. I have lost all confidence in your products, you wasted a great opportunity with the Twin Otter. I purchased after watching several well done pre release reviews based on sound likely judgements by the reviewers sadly you Aersoft LET US DOWN BADLY .
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Very fairly put Charlie. Aerosoft are of course welcome to pursue whichever target market they please, but I think many of us feel that the situation is disappointing, given that it’s passionate flight simmers who have been keeping them in business all of these years. I don’t understand why the Twin Otter has to be hamstrung, to “fit onto the Xbox”. Create a PC-standard simulation and then dumb it down for the Xbox if necessary? I feel somewhat guilty as well: When I took a preview look at the aircraft, I was expecting that (as with most preview products) the outstanding issues would be fixed up. It seems little has changed since then and I’m sure many (including yourself) purchased, with the same expectations as myself - so, sorry about that! Personally I’m enjoying the aircraft, but I can see where people’s frustrations lie - and not being able to feather a prop etc is well below standard - Carenado have had that one figured out almost since the sim’s release! All the best

Huh, that’s a shame Cali. . . I presume one of the WT updates has made the Garmin incompatible with the aircraft. Perhaps it’s worth trying to uninstall the WT mods (if you have any installed) and maybe try the PMS GNS mod also (if that’s still kicking around). Are you sure you don’t have any hardware conflicts causing the issue? Otherwise, I think we’re out of luck, as Aerosoft is no longer selling the Twin Otter and therefore, presumably not supporting the addon either (though the Twotter will be making a comeback at a later date). Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best!
