It’s because you inevitably use the toilet probably multiple times through a day and washing your hands regularly is hygienic. Tying the two activities together is a matter of convenience and further cleanliness, but it’s not purely because you do or don’t have pee or anything else visibly on your hands.

I have done the faking thing before on multiple occasions, and I usually convince myself to go back and actually wash them because what the fuck is the point in faking? You're not saving time or giving yourself any convenience by standing there with the water running, I seriously don't understand the thought process AND YET I'VE DONE IT.

And you've probably sat down in public. Your pants are not clean. Like, I'm almost horrified listening to this XD Pretending to wash your hands in public is kind of unnecessary. Just actually wash them. You're just wasting time and water anyway. Yes, there is such a thing as wasting water (or the resources needed to make the water usable again). If you do a little reading up on how filthy everything is, you'd probably want to do the same. I write all of this not because society tells me to. But there is pretty much 100% agreement across the board that you should wash your hands whenever you're gonna do something they should be clean for (like cooking, eating, touching anything close to your eyes). I always question myself when I shake someone's hands. I don't trust other people to be clean. Maybe if they're medical doctors.

Okay this is a fun exercise Next time you go to the bathroom, go to wash your hands. First use a little soap and only enough water to wet your hands, not rinse them. Use one hand to squeeze water off the other and look at the color of the water that comes off. Ask yourself if you needed to wash your hands after.
