If you want an original heel reason to turn, you can have a reluctant heel (opposite of reluctant hero trope). Sammy can say he turned heel so he could make more money to raise his kid. He could turn heel because Chris kept “accidentally” hitting him, and Sammy could act like everyone’s out to get him. You could give him a suspicious of everything gimmick.
