This is a very good video. As a Leeds fan I am really pleased that Bournemouth v Leeds will be a Premier League fixture at last. The scenes in 1990 were obviously totally unacceptable and it may not be the best time to play this particular fixture next Spring. I have enjoyed many great holidays in Bournemouth, particularly as a youngster . It is a great place and as a result have a soft spot for your club...Hope you ( and obviously Leeds) have a good season.⚽️

Easiest question to answer ever, I was there at the ground that day they rioted, i had to save a young lad from being crushed, it was back when we were kept in the South stand like caged animals. The Leeds fans, which in itself is the wrong thing to call them, were on the rampage, it was horrendous, I so felt for the police that day, bricks, cans, anything these thugs could get hold of was launched at the police and the horses, they even climbed the trees so they could throw bricks down on the horses. Ok we lost 1-0 and we were relegated, but we were just happy to get out of Dean Court in one piece. There were even rails outside the exit which we walked through whilst surrounded on either side by the abuse from the Leeds thugs. This is not to mention the damage they caused in the town that day too. So yes there is a very very good reason for any of us old enough to be at that game to have every reason to hate Leeds!!

I loved watching this video, it was very well presented and put together extremely well. I remember all fracas after the match, and Leeds fans were totally out of hand. As a Leeds fan I like to go watch the match in any way possible, but I refuse to go watch Leeds away due to all the trouble it can bring.. I was really ashamed of what happened in Bournemouth, and hope that Bournemouth will do well this coming season. Good luck and thanks for the insightful video Keep up the good work.

The rioting started on the Friday before the game in the town centre as I was there and did not stop until the Sunday I had friends who worked in hotels as waiting staff and they said families who came for the weekend went home early or just stayed in thier hotels for safety I was at the game and that was most probably the most frightening experience I have had following AFCB Think its a good idea to move the dates and dont tempt fate

Leeds fan in peace. I wasn’t there in ‘90 but remember it well…very embarrassing! I moved to Bournemouth 8yrs ago and went to the two Div1 games (4-1 & 1-3) where there was no trouble. However, I would support moving the match from bank holiday weekend. BTW…. I have had to remove the Leeds sticker from my car as on two occasions, damage has been done to my car close to where the sticker was located!! I guess the memories do still linger.

I was at the game and, yes, it wasn’t pretty. It was one of many games I attended around that time (not just Bournemouth matches) where I was glad to get away from the ground at the end. The importance of the game & the prevailing nature of football hooliganism in the ‘80’s created the perfect storm at Dean Court that day. My gut reaction on seeing a Bank Holiday date was not positive but, after due consideration, I think my reaction was OTT. As Sam says, I expect Sky/BT will change the date anyway, particularly if it is a vital game for either side.

I whole heartedly agree things have changed in football and not all Leeds fans are hooligans but is it really worth repeating history? Problem was Leeds had been out of the top league for 8 years. So it was obvious that many 1000 would want to be there to see Leeds go up. Even if it wasn't a bank holiday large numbers would have gone. Maybe 16k were there & most didn't have a ticket. I was one. I walked along from the Boscombe guest house in to Bournemouth & the atmosphere was incredible. Leeds fans sitting on a wall doing the mexico wave. Up in the town playing footy with large beach balls. I saw Macdonalds open on the saturday lunch time, yet the media had stated it had been smashed to bits. One cracked window. Apparently the pier had been burnt down but still seemed to be there too. As I walked in from Boscombe, I walked past loads of coloured beach huts & wasn't actually looking for damage as at that point hadn't heard stories that Leeds fans had smashed them all up, but didn't notice anything untoward. I never got a ticket so heard about the mayhem near the ground as thousands wanted to get in. I was in town with a radio. That was it for me. In the late 70's, early 80's, mid 80's there had been many problems. But in the late 80's it all stopped yet Leeds crowds improved in numbers, mainly cus Leeds United introduced their own stewards who travelled to away games. I believe Chelsea did similar in those days.

I'm a Leeds fan (23 years old) and I have of course heard of the infamous game, however, I have always quiet liked Bournemouth as they've been an underdog and I don't know a single Leeds fan who dislikes Bournemouth in any way. I don't really understand why most of the country hate us and we are one one the most hated clubs around. You get idiots at every club, not just ours. There is no rivalry with Bournemouth, and if there is, it's definitely one sided. Those Leeds fans would have been like that no matter who we were playing against. But I guess everyone hates us and likes to consider us a main rival, even when it isn't reciprocated.

Bournemouth fans have 'rivalries' with many big clubs who are just bewildered as to why. The big clubs fans feel AFCB is like an annoying fly. They don't feel any animosity towards AFCB because AFCB are not a big club at all.

@@Sidneyyoungblood75 first I’ve heard that and I’m 61, I don’t consider any premier league our rivals, not even saints, yes, rivals in the sense we are competing in the same league, have you spoken to all these so called big clubs, because I have, I go every week every year and not one has said what you have, just because our ground is small doesn’t mean we are, hence why we need a bigger ground, our rivals are Reading and Swindon I must have been to their grounds about forty times each over the years and I don’t like them, half the clowns or more commenting on here don’t go away so they don’t have a clue about rivalry, the majority hate saints for no other reason then they think they should because they are the closest, they want them relegated which I don’t understand as it’s as close to a home game we could possibly have. It wouldn't have mattered who Leeds were playing that day in 1990 they would have done exactly the same thing elsewhere. It wasn't the hooligan element that were involved because Bournemouth never had a mob to fight. It was pissed up beer monsters and stragglers that were involved. At one point there was a football match on the beach without any bother at all but sometimes the old bill can't wait to antagonise football fans. Even innocent ones.

Don't worry they are one of the most hated in football as your video shows. Early 1970's was the period when Clough and Revie hated each other to Derby fans and some players from that era they have always been known as "dirty Leeds". The 1970 FA cup final with Chelsea is known as one of the dirtiest games ever and the punch up between Franny Lee and Norman Hunter perhaps the most well known sending off in British football history.

"Irateness" isn't a word; but "ire" is - seriously, I thought that this was a really good overview of the issue. I speak as a lifelong Leeds United fan (for over 50 years, when I lived there), whose parents now live in Bournemouth. If I'm honest, as far as a tiny number of our fanbase is concerned, even now, the quote from the Duke of Wellington on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, when asked his opinion of his troops, remains apposite: "I don't know about the enemy, but by God, they frighten me". I sincerely hope that those individuals stay away...if they go anywhere near Boscombe Pier, my life won't be worth living...

Can you imagine the police receiving the message of complaint saying they need to move the game because of what is more than likely a completely different set of Leeds fans(some probably werent) did over 30 years ago? This is an unfortunate side if Football that will never go away. I've been to games when we were in the Championship watching Millwall fans putting bus windows through and bars in the middle of town, watched a Sheff United fan knock a woman out cold for absolutely no reason trying to get out of the way of the usual fans who just turn up for a scrap. This has been FOOTBALL fans for years, I don't see anything like this in Rugby League games(well most of the time). It's a sad part of football which some people see to relish in getting into fights as if they are fighting some sort of turf war, no team doesn't have fans like that. If teams want to cling on to our 70's persona of liking a scrap on the field, then so be it. I think like most if Premier league teams are still singing about you when you are in League 1 you cant help but think we are still massively relevant in football itself whether you are liked or not.

Apart from the mythical stereotypical rubbish at the beginning describing all that puerile untrue fanasy nonsene about "dirty leeds" you did fair enough with your analysis. Leeds were hated because their fans rioted everywhere we went for a couple of decades, nowt to do with when we were winning everything. I was there in Bournemouth that weekend, we had an amazing time, absolutely memorable occasion. I think Leeds have played one or two bank holiday matches since then so the 32 YEARS OF EVIDENCE suggests that as nothing like it has happened since, then it is totally improbable it will happen again.

Simple solution. Reverse the fixture. Play them away that weekend and at home in November. With Leeds possibly being in a relegation battle this coming season, it’s possible that once again thousands of Leeds fans could come to the town for a bank holiday weekend for what could be a crucial fixture for them. Can you imagine if we beat them and they got relegated? Do you think all their fans are going to behave? I don’t think so. It’s a huge risk and it’s not worth taking, especially when the solution is simple.

A lot of the Leeds fans weren’t from Leeds, the arrested at the time had Oxford, reading addresses, they were Leeds fans but not from Leeds, I remember going there in I think it was 89 to Leeds, we took 47 fans, 42 on the coach and five of us in a car and they waited for us outside, five of us, the away end was like millwall back then, I was living in LA when the riot happened but heard about it and wished I had been here, I would of loved to have picked a few off that night, I hate reading, Swindon and Lincoln more than Leeds, anyway everyone hates Leeds

Not being funny and what happened 30 years ago is horrible but we have changed as a fan base and if nobody else lets us then nothing will ever improve saying thing like “let’s not tempt fate” (seen comments saying this) is disrespectful to modern Leeds fans I get u can’t move on and u should never forget it but let the modern Leeds fans have a chance half of us won’t even alive it’s a bank holiday not a letter of war if the game gets moved then its ridiculous the fact it’s a bank holiday doesn’t mean loads of people are gonna turn into animals again and act like it’s the 90s we have played you since and this will be the same. Dont attack Leeds when it’s Not needed we’ve had bad press over the years for this type of thing we can’t move on if you don’t

Decent video, however one vital bit of information is missing here. Since you're pointing your finger at Leeds fans! Why no mention of the Met Police drafted in storming onto the beach attacking Leeds fans and forcing them into the town. Hindsight is a funny old thing, up to this point Leeds fans and local plod were getting on fine. They were happy playing football on the beach, ready to stay the night as all accommodation was full. Who ever gave the order to clear the beach was a catalyst for what transpired after. If the Leeds fans had been left alone, in context there wouldn't have been no where the trouble. Also a stupid idea to close pubs and have thousands with nowhere to go! Everything is subjective but if you're gonna report on it atleast include this vital important information to get a balanced account

Love your channel Sam, but to truly have a handle on what happened that day you would need to be a fair bit older that the young fella you are, I'm all for moving on ect but the league are incredibly stupid to put this fixture in the same place as it was that year, young men are still young men and they are just asking for trouble. Hope sanity prevails and the date is altered. No really interested in the ridicule from keyboard warriors , let's not invite a repeat performance from that awful mob of lunatics.

I was there that day and it was bloody awful. Waiting outside the South End with glasses smashing over our heads. Seeing the running battles in the car park. Terrible. I hate to think how bad it was if we had won that day. So I can't stand those involved that day. I am not sure if it is a great idea to have this fixture on a Bank Holiday. But I feel many fans from both clubs won't even have been alive in 1990 and am not sure anything terrible would happen. I don't want it to be too hyped up. But lets take this risk away.
