Ranking Nolan's movies is a tough task to say the least, and while I debated doing a tier list of the Nolan movies, I deciding doing a Top 12 Nolan list would be better.
Who is Christopher Nolan? Is Christopher Nolan the best director working today? Is he a top 10 director of all time? Is Nolan the best director? Is Christopher Nolan overrated? Is Nolan making another Batman movie? Why did Christopher Nolan never win an Oscar? Is Christian Bale the best batman? Is Christian Bale coming back as Batman? Is Heath Ledger the best joker?
We will also be covering why Christopher Nolan is the best, why Christopher Nolan left Warner Bros, why Christopher Nolan films feel so different, why Christopher Nolan doesn't use CGI, why Christopher Nolan movies are confusing, why Christopher Nolan batman is the best, why Christopher Nolan uses IMAX, why you need to see Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX, why Christopher Nolan is so famous, and so much more when it comes to each movie. That and much more, on this episode of Chris Nolan movies ranked.
It would be awesome if Oppenheimer wins best picture at the academy awards next year.

Congrats Chase, great retrospective/ranking. Still gotta finish Nolan’s filmography to really rank all his features. Dunkirk’s still probably my favorite of what I’ve seen though. Saw it five times in theaters, which I can’t think I’ve done for any movie except maybe Tar?

Incredible List. Inception had a massive impact on me the first time I watched it. It's the first movie that had me in a tailspin by the end of it. almost taunting me to rewatch it to unlock more of its secrets that had befuddled me the first time around. It seemed like a movie that just came out of nowhere in 2010 and was like nothing I had ever seen before. No one in my family or circle of friends was excited to see this film besides me because I am a massive science and physics dork. They all just dismissed it and said it was too confusing for them to make sense of it all. The Film's concept and Soundtrack in particular has stuck in my mind ever since and truly is some of Zimmer's finest work. And even to this day it is my favourite film of all time. It really deepened my appetite for similar mindbending science fiction masterpieces like Mr Nobody, Donnie Darko, Predestination, Coherence and Vanilla Sky

I really hope you'll see this lol but this is mine: 12. Insomnia (too long for the storyline and went off the rails a bit) 11. Following (great first film, worked really well but just not as good as the other obv) 10. Memento (great acting just the idea of a reverse film doesnt really work with me but i still understood it) 9. Batman Begins (weakest of TDK trilogy but still pretty good backstory) 8. Dunkirk (love the visuals but i would have liked it to be a bit longer) 7. TDKR (really underrated and i love bane) 6. The Prestige (i love how they are both protagonists and antagonists, really enjoyed this one) 5. Tenet (i dont think john david washington is a good actor at all but i really liked the originality of this film) 4. Oppenheimer (longest and newest nolan film, liked to see cillian murphy star in a nolan film as well, just a bit too long to make it to top 3 but still really good) 3. Interstellar (i love the emotion of this film, really well done and the music was a blessing to my ears) 2. TDK (best of the trilogy obv, heath ledger R.I.P carried this film imma be honest) 1. Inception (best nolan film ever, you cant change my opinion, Time is the best movie track ive ever heard)

12. Tenet. Just doesn’t work for me at all. 11. Following 10. Insomnia 9. Interstellar. I love a few scenes and think it looks beautiful, but the third act just falls apart, Anne Hathaway is cringe, and the message of “the end of humanity is humanity” doesn’t sit right with me. That we are the answer to ourselves instead of something bigger. I just personally find that to be bleak. 8. Dunkirk. Beautiful ending, but for this to be his shortest film, I found it to be a chore to watch. Just plot happening the entire time and sometimes it feels dull when the characters don’t have much of a personality. 7. Batman Begins. It’s a great movie, but it doesn’t feel as ambitious and exciting as Rises and I didn’t like some of the performances, especially Katie Holmes. 6. The Dark Knight Rises. This movie ranks higher than Begins because it felt like it was trying to say so much. It’s relevant socially and politically, and feels realistic in the way that humans behave when a city collapses like this. I love the ending, as well. I just love that Nolan was trying to say so much with this movie. 5. Memento 4. Oppenheimer 3. The Dark Knight 2. The Prestige 1. Inception

My bro I def checked this out just to see how high you ranked Insomnia so imagine my face when you ranked it lowest 🤣 I really appreciate your honest comparison to the OG, and I def feel ya, but I sincerely think it’s better on the whole than Following, Dark Knight Rises, and Tenet at least - alas these fun disagreements are what these videos are for 🍻👏🏼. P.S. - watch Insomnia in the depths of winter or on a sick day and you’ll find that it sucks you in this specific looping melancholy that I came to find profound over time.

Logan and Batman(2022) are superior movies compared to TDK. Matt Reeves made an authentic batman movie in which batman is a fucking detective which Nolan tends to forget. Nolan's Batman movies are style over substance and void of any logic and common sense. Is he really expecting us to believe that Hong Kong police walked 20-25 floors of stairs within 1.5-2 minutes in TDK 🤣🤣.

When ever I read some people posting or writing articles how "overrated" Nolan is as a director, I just think they probably had hard time understanding what was going on with the plot thus could not focus on other things that movie provided.....

I don’t think tenet gets enough love. I appreciate the good things you said about it and it is your opinion of course, but dumb and cringy is the last thing I would use to describe it. Quite honestly, how else was Nolan supposed to do it? You complain that it’s too confusing, but you complain that the explanations are too cringy. How is it coming from the future cringy? Also, while I can see the argument for the characters being dull and hard to attach to, I just disagree. They are very likable to me and the whole Kat sator thing was fascinating to me. Also the story is anything but boring. It’s a war between the present and the future. What’s not to like? Thanks for shouting out my man Ludwig though. He is for sure the Hans Zimmer of the future for that track and Oppenheimer.

I appreciate the different opinions! I just think I love the overall concept of Tenet at the moment versus actually loving the film itself, and I think the characters maybe feel a little too bland (whether that be an intentional choice on Nolan's part of not with naming the protagonist "The Protagonist"). Maybe the future me will get that entropy effect and turn my score into a 5/5, but I just have my doubts at the moment lol. I appreciate the comment though and love your list!
