In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create Celtic Knot patterns with the new Affinity Designer v2 Shape Builder Tool.
I will show you how to make use of different stroke widths to create these intertwined and complex-looking shapes with the Shape Builder Tool. I will be breaking down the patterns into simpler parts that are a lot easier to create. Through the use of symbols, these parts get combined and remain easily editable. When the design is set, the lines are expanded and the shape builder tool makes it easy to create new curves.
Enjoy!

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I am designing 49 Celtic Knots to be used by a Cricut machine to cut out stencils. I have already taken several jpg images and built them out in ai. But, couldn't quite get the overs/unders to work. So, I am now looking at Affinity as it seems to be easier to understand. If I have them already built in several layers and finally in a merged layer and all I need to do is cut away the extra lines do I have to start over in Affinity from the beginning or will I be able to use some of what I did already in ai? I have my ai files saved as pdf, jpg, eps, svg, and png (I didn't know what format was needed for the next step). Some are full files (eps and svg) and others are simply exports. AND a big THANK YOU for not starting in the middle! So many tutorial videos assume we know how you got to where you started. I've never had an art class and been using digital graphics for almost ONE WEEK. So it is still like learning a new language for me. I was able to follow you from the beginning!

another lovely video ... the problem I have is cutting the shape into three ... did you use the knife tool ... I wonder if it better to cut before making it a symbol

I am not a fan of the knife tool and find it awkward to control. I usually use added nodes and break the lines. When it's a shape a Boolean subtract with a rectangle does the trick.

Thank you for the video... I just finished watching a video from a year ago; less VO and louder BG music. If I may politely critique, I see you are still using the same style BG music. At least the volume is lower. Myself, I find the pop electronic loop style distracting. For me it takes away from your instruction and the main idea you are sharing. Please consider using a quieter (chill, ambient, soft electro) music style. This IMHO would allow more focus in your video on your main topic and excellent instruction ideas. I don't mean to be rude, this is just my experience. Thank you🤔😊...

Thanks for the feedback! That's not rude at all... and I am very much on the fence with this one... but... the music does cover up some of the issues I have when recording my narration - my gear and my office are not made for youtubing - I am an artist and do these videos for fun. Living in a complex of buildings, in tropical Australia, the background noise is immense - weird bird noises, air con units humming, cars going past, or the gardener using the line trimmer right when I decide to finish my recording... I will experiment with the music [none or different loops] when I find time and energy. At the moment, I just stick to what works [for most people - including myself].
