Hi there. Where I live we don't have winter seasons. But we do have rainy days in the months of October till December. That's why I build an old aluminum Concorde Mistral 340 frame. it was a 3x9 Campagnolo Mirage complete group set, which I swapped completely with Ultegra 6700. I need to get some carbon at least 35mm wheels for it. I ride my Bianchi the rest of the year. But now I combined it with MTB during the rainy season. Is more fun riding in the woods in rainy days then riding on the streets where it's slippery and somehow dangerous regarding traffic. Enjoy your bike

I have a steel frame Ribble. Rim brakes and 105 groupset. Full mudguards too. I need to ride around the Toon. Love that stretch from Spanish City to the Priory.

Boardman frames are great. Great big fan of Cable housing through the frame. Eliminates the problem of internal gear cables corroding, needing replacement..then messing with internal routing. Looks a perfect winter bike. Have NEVER had a problem stopping with decent quality rim brakes. Finally ,winter roads, wet salty, muddy are terrible for bikes. So never used my best road bike for winter riding. Great build for the money and totally fit for purpose.

"RIM BRAKES" and mechanical all day everyday 👌🏻 Ben you pretty much summed it up ... ( YOU CAN'T BEAT THE FEELING ) of traditional rim brakes...the bike industry can waffle on about the advantages of disc brakes and Di2 all they want, blah, blah, blah .....enjoy riding those rim brakes and mechanical gears, welcome back to natural road cycling 👌🏻😉👌🏻

Got a lovely alloy frame a couple years ago £20. As fate would have it my dad got sent a tiagra rim brake groupset instead of the disc brake version the day later. They were just going to send him a whole new set as it "wasn't worth it" to get him to send it all back. Two years on and only minor repairs done and I love it. only change I'm making this winter is a frame pump because my hands got very cold last year after two punctures haha

I recently refurbed my almost 20 year old Planet-X Aluminium frame with new kit and I love it so much, for the North East it is perfect, the hills are less steep than my usual hunting ground so I love the rim brakes. It lives at my parents for when I am visiting and need to get some miles in. Love the pink, great video & a very nice bike. For my main winter bike I have full mudguards, dynamo hub and lights. It is heavier than I would like but I never get caught out in the rain or when the sun sets quicker than I expected. Keep up with the great videos.

I'm also a northerner, and its not a winter bike unless it has full guards! I am fortunate to have a CAAD13 (full guard mounts) with Di2 and discs. Ultimate winter bike for me 🤗

Lovely bike and great filming and editing. Beautiful surroundings as well. As a starting cyclist my winterbike doubles as a summerbike…It’s a carbon Concorde Razorblade 880 with a mix of Campa components. Maybe not as flashy or aero as todays modern bikes, but I like it. And it has a black FSA stem😊 which stands for Full Speed Ahead if I recall correctly.

Great video you can certainly shift mate. Pretty much knew your location nearly every shot you're on may patch. Winter bikes are good things and you've built a good quality 105 bike. Under spec them and they don't last. Good rim brakes are very good, the only down side is if you ride a lot you have to replace your rims about every two years. 105 rim callipers are very good if you can get them. Got a commuter and a winter bike both from spa cycles. The commuter is a Spa Elam Mk1 105 steel frame, the winter bike is an Elan Mk2 titanium with full Ultegra . Consider a pair of mudguards if you can get a set on that pink rocket. The best bike shop around here by far is Giant at Prudhoe. Look them up it's a nice ride, follow the ctc path along the Tyne through Wylam to Ovingham use the north bank, cross the Ovingham bridge , over the railway and turn left on the main road, 5 minutes and it's on your right across the road. Bought a Sabbath titanium bike this year for a knock down price, they really know their stuff, sold me a pair of 4 season continentals yesterday for fifty quid and that's a steal any day of the week.

A bit of sugru on the cable ports if you want to seal them up - no gains on the protecting the cables with your full outer runs, but a bit of a seal to water going into the frame.

Hmmm winter bike yes but too me winter racer needs full mud guards 😂 plus carbon wheels + rims in winter must be mad we are talking maybe 1-2 car lengths increased at speed due to carbon rims ignoring the winter ware!😵‍💫

Hi Benjamin I have been cycling since 1982 and have always had a dedicated winter also complete with mudguards .I too favour rim brakes but that s personal choice . Love your video great input ,also I am a regular visitor to my daughter's in Gosforth and I cycle the coast road from Tynemouth up to Blyth then across To Ponteland a regular circuit for me and like you I love the area. However after never done the tunnel Will have to give it go. Really enjoyed your video

I'm envious of your mechanical, rim brake build. That's also what I'm after. I don't have a _spare_ groupset laying around, but I've heard the new SRAM Apex & Microshift Sword are very good.

Discs on a skinny tyre road bike is total overkill I’ve actually came off twice through back wheel lock up and I’m no novice having raced for 30 years road and cyclocross. Having discs on my cx bike makes more sense. I much prefer riding my 2014 TCR rim brake campag equipped super light bike. I’ve found that having to make an emergency stop on disc brakes especially in the wet is lethal they are either on or off where they get this modulation thing from is a mystery to me. Anyway thanks for the video 👍

My current only drop bar bike is a cyclo-cross bike the Norco Threshold which I just finished building up from a frame with a Microsoft advent X 1x groupset. If I ever get a more fancy road bike I suspect this will become my "winter bike" but until then I'll use it year round. Loving the pink frame! Suits you well.

The bike looks sick, mate. Absolutely love the colour! As you know, I have a winter bike, but this last weekend has shown me that I need something lighter 🤣 Looks like I'll be scouring FB Marketplace for a new frame then! BTW, I rode that route from Whitley Bay down through the tunnel to Jarrow on Sunday, but it was a lot darker when I started pre-sunrise! Stunning place to ride though.

I have taken a look at your riding position side on at 08.30 in. You are far to crushed up, stems far to short for you and your well be to high in the saddle. By bringing the saddle down your bum will go back and pop a 10 or even an11 stem on and your back will start straightening out rather than going upwards. I would also consider trying a -17 degree stem, your all too high up everywhere. There is a term called long and low. Bring it all down and let your body push out and then you will start looking like a rider should look.
