I decided to refinish a fishing rod that is close to fifty years old. The idea was to not spend a lot of money in the remodeling process. The methods I used are inexpensive and the materials are readily available from local stores.
This video includes:
1. Redoing the fishing rod handle
2. Stripping off the eyes and cleaning them
3. Sanding down the old paint on the rod
4. Repainting blank
5. Wrapping the fishing eyes
6. Sealing the fishing eye wraps
All of the things listed above cost less than forty dollars to do. This is an amateur approach to refinishing a fishing rod in a homemade fashion. All of the work done in this video was performed by hand and completed using many items and tools I already had at home. There were no special tools or equipment purchased for refinishing fishing rods.

Yeah, it's far from being professional, but here's the first fish I caught on the remodeled rod: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7uiaM9-p9qoY3k.html Don't use Rustoleum paint.

thanks for watching and the encouragement. It's been about ten days now since I finished the rod, still haven't used it. That Rustoleum paint still has a very mild tackiness, very frustrating. I looked at the label again. It said five to seven days to fully dry on plastics. Would fiberglass be considered a plastic?
@ProjectReel
@ProjectReel 5 жыл бұрын
Rad Reeling Fishing it’s a sort of reinforced plastic so it may take the time written in the instructions to dry. That tackiness usually occurs when there is too much humidity or maybe it was the lighter fluid. I’m not quite sure if lighter fluid is oil based but if it is then that’s the culprit. I did some research, take a small amount of talcum powered and put it on a small area of that tacky paint. It should help it dry. I say a small area just to give it a try, don’t want your entire rod covered in tacky powder. Either way I’m sure it will dry soon, just needs some time.

@@ProjectReel Thanks for taking time to share. I'm starting to wonder if there was a reason that particular paint was on sale, ha ha...I think for now I'll let it sit for a while longer, no need to force anything. It could be all the things you've listed for sure. I think that particular paint is oil based. We will see, thanks again, greatly appreciated.

Would I be able to use spray can clear coat on top my new paint? Or would it not work 🤔 I know I should use epoxy but I'm trying to take it easy
@coldsteel106
@coldsteel106 4 жыл бұрын
Do not use epoxy to finish your rod, it's too thick and will add a lot of weight to the blank. I would use an automotive-grade clear coat. Any clear coat meant for plastic should do because it's meant to flex.

He shook master I redid a very old fishing pole for a family member of mine & she told me she loves yellow yo what i did i through away the old reel & got a new one. Then i didn't like the neon green of the rod so i cleaned it up & put a layer of white spray paint but i did mask off the guides then i took some yellow spray paint & did two coats of yellow. Its already for now & it came out great & I did take an auto body class in highschool so I know how to paint by can. 😎
