What were your other brands you were looking at? I'm wanting do what you have done and just don't know who to go with. I just don't see how it should be expensive, I might try cheap china stuff first on amazon.

@@trauma50disaster1 I looked at all types from cheap small 4 channel amps on amazon to the more expensive model that is what I really would like of Monolith. I eventually took into consideration reliability, future needs, performance. I decided that the OSD model for the wattage provided by both the 5 and 7 channel models was exactly what I need, and I can say without bull ****** that it has completely improved my system from top to bottom. For power amps, I've only tried these OSD ones and the Parasound.

No hum or hiss with RCA. I mean any amp will have some sound when you get close enough and if your room is quiet enough. But I've heard nearfield powered studio monitors with more hiss than these.

@@joentell Awesome! I'm new to external amps and am looking at either these OSD or Outlaw amps. I want to externally power all my speakers and use my Denon x4700h as a processor. I like how the outlaw has a ground line If you do have humming or hissing but I like the idea of OSD running a bit cooler and they're a little cheaper.

@@chebrubin I just checked. The new 3 and 7 channel amps have it, my old 5 channel does not. If the plate on the back is silver, it's probably the new one. I assume they also updated the 5-channel one.

The 3200 should be available now for $499.00 on the Bay if you jump now. Carry over holiday pricing perhaps? They list them higher on OSD’s website.

@@joentell I am newbie to this hobby. I have a Yamaha Aventage RX-A1060BL as my avr but I use the pre-outs and have external amplification with the Emotiva amps. I was basically curious to know if a change/upgrade in amplifiers would yield a sonic and audible difference. My speakers are the Fluance Signature Series.

From pictures, the internals look very similar to me. I don't know whether or not they're different in some way, and if they are, I don't know what those differences are.

They used to be, and most likely still are. They just had a different chassis and front panel. The issue is they used to be much cheaper, and then OSD raised the price because they could (I don’t exactly blame them). Now they’re on par with Outlaw with pricing. I just don’t know how their customer service is. You can call Outlaw and get a person immediately.

@@andrewskaterrr from what I've heard from others, they're pretty good also. I've heard stories where they've replaced a defective product with no questions asked. Heard this from a few viewers.

It's a good idea because the gain might be different and you want to make sure you have a good level match.

Sorry, I don't know much beyond what is stated on the company's marketing materials. Maybe someone with an Audio Precision analyzer can bench test these. I would also like to know.

Class H is just A/B with a better voltage rail efficiency. They should measure similarly, but produce less heat because it follows the input voltage instead of having a static max voltage output.

Class H and standard Class A/B should theoretically be the same in terms of distortion. In Class H the rail voltage tracks the input voltage continuously so there's no RF switching noise on the rail to filter out like there is with Class D amps but you get better efficiency, cooler operation, smaller package and high output. I LOVE Class H for mobile audio because the amps can be fit into smaller areas but you don't sacrifice sound quality. I have no problems using Class D for a subwoofer.

No, but they aren't extremely bright. I can see someone wanting the option to turn those off though. I could put a piece of black tape if I needed to.

@@joentell this is where they could’ve stepped up. Outlaw doesn’t have an LED off switch either. I had to put electrical tape over my 7000Xs and 2220. Both companies need to address this IMO, cause those LEDs are bright when all the lights are off.

One of the least expensive in its category. I think most people can afford this if they want to. It seems like everyone is walking around with a $1000+ smartphone, so it's possible. It just depends on whether someone wants to spend that much on this hobby.

@@joentell Nah. looks like an Emotiva rebranded. If I dug in deeper I'm pretty sure it would confirm my suspicions, too similar to not be. I have an Emotiva already and it's living up to expectations.

These do have a lot of similarities with the Emotiva BASX amplifiers (I have the BASX A3). Although the OSD are a little more expensive, the balanced XLR outputs are tempting. Really comes down to if you prefer to purchase via a dealer (OSD) or purchase directly (Emotiva) in the deciding factor, IMO.

@@Roof_Pizza Check out the Outlaw Audio 5000X and 7000X amplifiers. The Outlaws and these new OSD’s are almost identical except for the faceplates. Also, the Outlaws are class A/B instead of class H. Great bang for the buck in both cases.

@@shaner3d The one I have is an A/B and runs cool tho 'future proofing' with XLRs would be interesting. I guess a higher output would make sense in class H.

I get it. I hesitated to use that term, but it's all relative. These are some of the least expensive power amps available. But really, who NEEDS a home theater system with external amplifiers? It's a want, not a need.

I don't want to sound rude, but I think you need a reality check...Show me a 7 channel amp that outputs 180w per channel at the same time, with similar distortion levels for under $200. That's right, you can't. These are some of the cheapest amps you can get, second to Emotiva's BAS-X line, and on par with Outlaw (same amps as OSD still I'm sure). I'd bet you those amps cost over $200 just to make. It's all relative to other products in the market, so these are definitely "affordable". You've got to be kidding me if you think $600-$1000 isn't affordable for a even a low-middle class US family. If you don't have the money, then you're not buying amps anyways, and you have more important things to spend it on. The truth is, if you can't afford this, then why are you even looking at Home Theater equipment at all? Why come here complaining about the price of budget products you can't afford? Makes no sense. I don't go to Tesla's YT channel and complain about the price of the Plaid ($136k), when it's the 2nd quickest production car, at 3.3% the cost of the quickest car (Bugatti Chiron Super Sport $4.1m and low quantities), and beats every other car in the 1/4 mile that cost more than it. To those who are spending millions on fast cars, wouldn't you'd say that's pretty "affordable" compared to other cars? It's all relative.

Depends on what you can afford. If your budget is at a Theater-In-The-Box level, then why would external amps be on the radar at all?
