In 1974, Afghan master musicians at the suggestion of Lloyd Miller appeared in Shiraz during the Shiraz Arts Festival. Lloyd Miller & Dr. Safvat hosted them and arranged for them to be on the program. Since only serious traditional ethnic music was presented at Shiraz, Miller & Safvat asked the musicians to play solos on their instruments. Here are solos on tambur and dilruba. The concert was taped by NIRT and a copy was obtained by NIRT affiliated Lloyd Miller and released as a video in 1979.

Actually they are doing wrong by playing musical instruments & delighting the audience as per Islamic belief. Playing music along with singing songs praising god is one of the effective & easy way to connect with the god as per our Hindu Sikh beliefs. But in Islam it is kufra act which is punishable offence even upto death penalty. Now a days TALIBAN are ruling over there all cinema & music theatres are closed since last @ 1& 1/2 years.

These are original musical instruments of NE Afghanistan that happen to be shared by the peoples of NW India. In places like Kabul you will find Sarinda and Delruba similar to those in NW India. The Tanbur is a uniquely Afghan instrument as well.

@@DGR233They belong to South Asia as whole. Saying a specific country is incomplete for their history. Aside, indeed these are astonishingly similar. For instruments like Sarinda, we have various similar instruments. We got Sarangi in Himalayan areas, Ghyzek in middle east, Kobyz in Kazakhstan (their national instrument), Suroz in Balochistan (Pakistan), Sarinda in Rajasthan and Punjab. Specifically, the sarinda is believed to have been formed by Sikh guru Arjan Dev ji.

Good and better times, indeed. There was no war in Afghanistan, nor Islamic regime in Iran. In those times, we were all brothers. Same language, close cultures, one history,.. now I only see hatred and racism between us. Pity. I wish those times come back. I wanna see all persianspeakers from Afghansitan, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaiyan, Turkey, Irak, Bahrein, Turkemenistan and Pakistan all together again.

Yes, there is so so so much racism in Iran against Afghans. it’s very heartbreaking. We speak the same language yet we’re mocked for our accent/dialect. Even more than just mocking, even attacked 😢. A big shame.

Can be said. More accurate can be said with a Persian instrument called "setar", which technically means 3 strings. The overall evolution of Indian sitar can be called as a fusion between setar and Veena. Fun fact: we have another instruments called "setar" in Xingiang region, 7-10 strings, played with now. The word sitar as itself means "7 strings" (sat tar).
