You can tell they probably dragged him kicking and screaming to this thing. In spite of his celebrity, De Niro's not a public man - in the sense that he doesn't like to display his private feelings in a public arena - uncomfortable with being feted, and obviously torn here between wanting to run out the door and staying to be moved by these loving tributes. A very classy man who doesn't like bullshit.

Man, time go's by fast. I remember 25-30 yrs ago when the last of the Bob Hope/Golden Age of Hollywood actors were on their way out, and bam now you have De Niro Michael Douglas (Amazing Kirk Is Still Around At 102), Pacino and others pushing 80, while guy's like Clint, Hackman, and Sean Connery are pushing 90. There's some great younger actors like Tom Hardy, and Leonardo D, but these are the last of the method actors, many who learned or based their schtick off of Brando.

To watch them on scene together it was a joy, twice, first with the Godfather part 2 even if they never interacted in the same scene and Heat it was a brilliant brilliant movie, I remember I was careful even to breath in case I would have lost any line.
