I went from a 4 string Ibanez bass to the Ibanez 6 string SR506E and I LOVE IT!! That BIG "B" string can really go down and get those LOW notes.and it does give you more range. However, I was a tid bit confused at first but, gradually got better with it being that I never learned how to read music.🙂👌🏾👍🏾❤💯

I tested the water with an Ibanez gsr206b, they are under £300 in the uk and play really well for a budget 6 string. I have since moved onto a custom but would never have dared do that without living with my trusty old ibanez for a while.

I ow an Ibanez BTB676 wich is a 6 string bass, and I love it! I wanted to buy a Sire V7 Vintage as my Christmas present, but I changed my mind since I tasted the Yamaha TRB6II model wich is a great bass. The other reason why I decided to buy the Yamaha TRB6II is the 24 fretts because I love soloing. Sire V7 Vintage has only 20 fretts.

I jumped from the 4 to the 6 about twenty-five years ago. I didn't have a bass at the time and was looking for a 5. I went to a pawn shop and the only one they had was an Ibanez Soundgear 6. The guy made me a good deal and away I went. Although I have a 4 and a couple of 5s, I find myself gravitating to the 6 - it's where I find myself being most expressive.

@Liz plays bass You can try with a 5 string befor. Me to I started with a 4 string. When I saw a 6 string bass for the first time, I was afraid. One day, I tried one in a bass store, and I found out it wasn't so difficult for me to play it. When I discovered American gospel music, I noticed many gospel bassists were using 5 or 6 strings basses. I was so impressed by the esthetic and numerous possibilities I could get with the 6string bass. I got a 6 string bass (Ibanez BTB676) as present from my dad, and I love it soo much. I can say it's not only a nice bass, but a huge one with a 35 inch scale, it weights a little bit; but I bought a large strap for it. If you have small hands, forget about it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I bought a Yamaha TRB6II for Christmas and I lovee it.

Good vid! I have a four string Yamaha and I consider getting a six. I do a lot of loops where I play all over the fretboard down to the 24th fret. The added C string might be more useful to me than the low B. I understand you have to dampen that low B but then you have to with the E too so...

Just got a new Smith 6'er few weeks ago, and I love it dearly! I now have four, along with an ESP/LTD and two Ibanez. While I am still learning the possibilities of a 6'er. The extra strings immediately give it much greater range in the sweet spot of the fretboard. I also play a 5'er and standard 4 string basses. The Smith has quickly become my go-to axe. I also owned a sire 5 string so I know what to expect in terms of quality. I love playing a 6. Its like a cello. You got that grunty low end but that sing songy high end. It does it all.

But they all serve there purpose. Oh and I also have a 4-string 21-fret Best Choice Products Acoustic Bass. Now that is nice for playing at home and it is very light. But it also has a little weird Sattlee pickup that requires a battery.

Great lesson. I bought my 6-string (Carvin LB76) 12 years ago. I was influenced by artist I saw back in the 90s and saw great creative possibilities for playing jazz, R&B, and classical music. I never had any fear, but I did discover that I needed to develop a good muting technique to keep settings from ringing unintentionally. I use a "floating thumb". What do you use?

Just found your channel and have been checking out a few of your videos. I played a 4-string Iceman for about 10 years. Had to give up playing for the last couple years but just decided to get back into it. Just bought an Ibanez six-string 206 that will be here in a couple days. I just wanted to say that I was actually kind of worried about going straight to a 6-string, but I always felt sort of limited on 4. (I like to run). I've watched a couple of your videos on six string and wanted to say thank you as I certainly feel better about my purchase. Instead of feeling intimidated I'm actually really hyped to see what I'll be able to do. So yeah... lol thanks man.

Hey my friend, I have a SDGR Ibanez 6 string bass guitar and I love it!! I know every note on the fretboard and also how the numbers system works inside all the scales and modes and triad's, my problem is I have only been learning for a year and about 4 months now and I can play at church in our praise and worship team and choir, but I have to have chord sheet music, cause I can't play that great by ear, I can pretty much put runs and grooves if I have the chord sheet ahead of time so I can practice it, I can pretty much tell if I am not in the right note or not, and I can pretty much feel the change in the song but I just don't know what notes to go to cause I can't figure out how to play by ear!? But I really like your help on you tube videos that you offer, and I thank you.

Scotty Shepard every chord sheet you get, memorise the chords and your line. The more songs you memorise, over time, you will see the same chord progressions and then you will know what to play. The important bit is internalising the music you play. Good luck.

Scotty Shepard if you can tell which are the wrong notes you are already playing by ear! Every bass line you create and memorise is one step closer to creating your own style and being able to sight read sheets. The best way takes time - but will be worth it!

I think while you're learning and developing as a player, 4 is perfect. What I mean to say is, unless you intend to actually LEARN extended range bass harmony, limit yourself.
