According to the way I observe our African brothers and sister from the continent, I’m saying SOME of those that I see here in America and also on KZfaq, I come to realize that the entire continent of Africa has failed to teach Africans of the history of its children who have been brought to slavery in the Caribbean and other places on the globe. It hurts a lot that our Mother, brothers and sisters don’t know who we are, us Black people in the diaspora. However, we, at least us in Haiti have been taught of our African ancestry, and our African history (as a whole) going as far back as possible. In fact, Africa is in our DNA, it’s our identity, Africa is who we are; we have never forgotten Africa, we can never, ever forget Africa. That is the reason why, at least those of us who went to school and have learned about African history (who we are), we know that we are Africans and we love, we long for our African brothers and sisters as well as the land of Africa. Unlike certain others that I see bickering on KZfaq. We Haitians don’t know/recall what specific tribes we came from, therefore we don’t practice tribalism - we’re an all inclusive African nation. Time and slavery have erased that recollection from our minds. However, in Haiti we know that we come from all over the land of Africa, not from a specific country and not from a specific tribe. We became one African people in the new world that they brought us to, and later on we took on the identity of Haitians because we had to have a western identity out there where they brought us to - while we still hold on our identity of being Africans. When the colonizers brought us over to the New World (the entire Caribbean), we did not come from some specific countries from Africa because back then Africa was not yet divided into different countries like they have it now, Africa was one big plot of land that was inhabited by Africans/Black people. Therefore, they took us as a big pool of Black people, not specifically from any country or any tribe. And when they got to the New World, they split us, they took whole families, whole tribes, whole villages, and they spread us one by one to go to different islands - so families were scattered and shattered. Villages were shattered, tribes were separated; that’s what Haiti is at this time: an African quilt. And I would say that’s not just Haiti, but the entire Caribbean nations, or the entire African diaspora is a conglomerate of different tribes from the continent of Africa. Therefore, DNA testing will not accurately help in finding out what country we the African diaspora are from, it’s suffices to say that we are from Africa, that’s all that matters. Of course, certain ways of doing things may differ based on what tribes we came from, it’s for African Anthropologists from the motherland to identify where on the land or what tribe of Africa that’s from. But because of long periods of brainwashing, mind blowing, slavery, it’s only human to forget what tribes we’re from, because the white men made sure that they erased our identities and they successfully did that. Because of the lack of education, where the countries of Africa have failed to educate Africans and the school children of their brethren in the diaspora, I observed that some Africans from the land of Africa are rejectful of us Africans in the diaspora. For example, I hear too many shenanigans going on between some countries in Africa and the black Americans on KZfaq. That is so unnecessary. I blame the governments of the countries of Africa for not teaching the people that they have brothers and sisters out here that were sold into slavery. You can be ashamed of that fact, that’s understandable; but you can be also apologetic, that will suffice to us because we love you, and you remain our brothers and sisters regardless. But to deny us of our Africanism is seriously hurtful. For example, the Haitian government under the leadership of the beloved, deceased President Jovenel Moise, had requested the inclusion of Haiti into the African Union for which Haiti was denied entry; reason: because Haiti is too far from the continent of Africa…. WOW!!!!!! That is a big old shame on AU as well as the entire continent of Africa. That’s a shame! America is not located in Europe, but rest assured it is in the European Union one way or another. America is a member of NATO. Does the European Union claim that America is too far to be included in these Européen organizations? NO. Why does the African Union reject Haiti on the basis that it’s too far from the continent of Africa…….?????? I wander if England, US, Russia, China, I*S*R*L wanted to be included in the African union if they also would be denied ……. HMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

I have my theory on that. 1) The Commoners in Africa see us as their bredren and sisteren. But the elites see us really as the garbage they got rid of. Haiti is poor and so in a capitalist system that African countries run on. They don't benefit from Haiti. Again this is the elite not the average person who has no effect on the AU

Well said, you don't need to go far in your example. North African countries (north of Sahara) are geographically in continental Africa, but identify as Arabs (middle Easterners). Africans union is still a work in progress, I feel your passion. The door is open for you, to make your footprints.

@haitianqueen6938: After reading about the Haitian history and learning how their ancestors were a people willing to die for their freedom, rather than remain alive to be enslaved, I was left with no doubts that these were my Igbo brothers who share the exact traits that our Igbo ancestors told us Igbos are known for; "We don't bow or bend to the authority of any human born of a woman, but rather only to the authority of "our Chi' (our God). This is why our neighbouring West African tribes have always known and seen us as Republicans in nature right from the time before Africa made any contact with the white men from Europe. "Igbo enwe Eze" (Igbos don't have dynasties or kings with Royal Authorities to whom everyone must subscribe to). Rather we've always had chiefs ('Igwes' and 'Ezes') or Heads of Senate who presided over deliberations & decisions made by the traditional Council of Elders (our Senate), which is usually made up of titled old and matured men known as 'Ndi Ichie', 'Ndi Nze' na 'Ndi Ozor'. Never a time in the history of Igbos did they bow to any powers that be...except the ones made & set up by them; amongst them; and for themselves. This was even before I started reading books and researching online scripts which further confirmed that majority (85‰} of the slave ships that left the Bight of Biafra (Igbo Land) went to places like Virginia, Haiti, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Antigua and the rest of the Caribbean. The ones that left South Western Nigeria (Yoruba land) went mostly to places in South America, such as Brazil, El Salvador, etc.

I recall many children being transported to Gabon for kwashiorkor treatment. There were children from my village who returned after the war. They wore id tags on their neck, and we were told that no one claimed some of the children after the war, possibly because many had become orphans due to the war. So, yes. I can see why there would be many Igbos there.

I think you're talking about Henry Christophe. The greatest leader that Haiti has ever produced. He fought in the American Revolution under the Marquis de Lafayette. He built the Citadelle La Ferriere, the Sans Soucis Palace, the 365-door Palace all UNESCO recognized sites. This guy has given more to Haiti than most of its other leaders. He became King Henry 1 as Haiti plunged into a civil war after its independence. The Citadelle is the largest castle in all of the Americas.

It's no secret that Igbo children were sent in mass to Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, and some other countries that accepted those children during the Nigerian Civil War. The Red Cross and some Christian organizations like the Catholic relief agencies have these children in refugee camps in Ihiala, Uli and Awo-mama, and various locations during the Nigerian Civil War. These Christian relief Organizations has records of the Airlifts from then Uli Airstrip to these countries. Nigeria government and the Igbos Organizations should check up on these Nigerians .It will be tragic if these Igbos kids, now adults are not checked up on and maybe connect to their relatives in Igbo land.

Someone needs to invite me to Enugu so I can get my Igbo name and give up that French name I have. I am always mistaken for an Igbo when they see me. I used to be very confused until my brother said he was also being approached by Igbos who thought he was from their tribe. Then I got introduced to Nigerian films and noticed all the actors looked like my cousins and siblings. It was interesting. I was even picking up words that exist in Haitian Creole: Akrena, abodjo, nwasisi, guede, anasi. Then my DNA test showed that most of my ancestry came from northern Cameroon and southern Nigeria. I think that's Igboland, isn't it?

Good job Nwa Ada Igbo Thank you for your rare project to fish out Umu Afo Igbo where ever they are scattered. It recently came thru US justice dep declassified document that the massacre of Igbos in Nigeria was the first genocide in African soil in recent times. But for the wicked souls that reign over our land admitting this and formerly apologizing to ndi Igbo would be the last thing ever. I don't care what you you say or believe about Rwandan president Paul Kagame, history will forever remember and history will be kind to him. Barely 20 yrs ago Rwuanandans witnessed a genocidal killings against Hutis but today Paul Kagame fought hard to unify his country and those killed are memorialized and there is a national holidays. All this had started a national healing since took over. Blood is flowing in Nigeria until they publicly acknowledge the atrocities against the Igbo.

also the Aro priests convinced many they spoke for Chukwu. So they would have people accused of crimes come to be judged. If found guilty you went into a cave where Chukwu was supposed to kill you. But really you were taken and sold. In addition some groups living near the Cross River would raid, take heads and sell whoever they spared beheading.

Igbos are aggressive, Haitians are timid, Igbos are business minded, Haitians are not, Igbos are competitive in business and assist one another, Haitians are wicked towards each.
