3:01 to play that solo without missing a note, while playing the rhythm and bassline is absolutely insane. Most guitarists would just struggle with the solo by itself.

I attended Kent's show in in London, Canada on April 12, 2024. Kent was featured with Don Ross. A great combination of unique percussive solo guitarists. They both stayed behind after the show for personal autographs and photos. Incredible playing! I have been playing guitar for over 60 years (now focused on jazz guitar style) and their performance absolutely impressed me.

@@kob627 As you clearly mention as "", I don't mean to hurt your feelings at all. Andy McKee and Kent Nishimura. They have different guitar style and different attraction. In fact, each of their tunings Andy and Kent used on this song are totally different. Hearing the very first introductions among their arrangements for the first 10 seconds, it's very easy for anyone to know that both of them are so different. This is what Kent covered this well-known song with his original arrangement. That's it. Taking this opportunity, I would like to mention that Kent and Andy have respected each other since Kent met Andy in person a few years ago at backstage of Andy's concert as Andy kindly invited Kent to Andy's concert in Tokyo. Before Andy met Kent at the time, he spoke of Kent very highly below soon after Andy listened to Kent's album. ======================================================== Andy McKee Kent sounds like a great young player! I think he'll be one of the best and will carry the Fingerstyle guitar torch well into the future! ======================================================== Respecting Andy, Kent uploaded THE Andy's beautiful original song "Rylynn" exactly the same way Andy plays on Kent's KZfaq channel below. That’s true. One could arrange the best sounding piece in musical theory but to put it across as practical music on an instrument and particularly the guitar is entirely a different ball game. But we don’t have to always be the best. We must learn what it feels like to ‘not be the winner’ as well. That’s the problem with our generation.

Thank you for this lesson, Kent. I was a professional sax player, but now I'm a retiree and a guitar student. Right from the beginning of learning, I found that my hands took me to fingerstyle playing, while normal picks drove me nuts. Fortunately, there are people like you who show how! Hearing and seeing the way you are approaching one of my all-time favorite songs is tremendously helpful as well as being encouraging. This is one of those "I love it and I don't want to mess it up" kind of songs - a classic that never gets old. I don't have an acoustic, but I DIY'd a little "tap pad" using a piezoelectric element, and fastened it on with double-faced foam tape. Did temporary wiring, but I'll refine that now. It works surprisingly well for a 'lash-up' and gives that drum-like sound. This tune will take a while to learn, but worth every minute. You've done a superb arrangement, and done it in a way where it sounds "complete" by itself. This is Wonderful! Many thanks! It's things like what you're doing that make me want to keep learning, and playing. Thank You!

I'm thinking about the music magazines of my 1980s youth, and how they regularly named "the top 10 greatest guitarists in the world" and stuff like that. It was always a few usuals like Jimmy Page and Hendrix, and then some embarrassing flavors of the year like the guy from Quiet Riot or Twisted Sister. I think we can now agree that the greatest guitarists in the world are folks whom unfortunately most people have never heard of.

@Anthony Greco That went on in the guitar magazines of my youth in the late 90s. And it’s pathetic spirit resides despite having witnessed dozens of YT-guitar-geniuses: The tendency to list guitarists and the ghosts of overcome eras of the page-Clapton-Hendrix trinity. It’s pathetic. This here is pure skill.

@@agdolany1094 I think people forget why Hendrix is on that list. He pushed the limit on what people did with guitar, much the same way KZfaq guitarists are today. His genius was in the techniques he used to get sounds out of his guitar nobody else was getting. Do I consider him one of the best guitarists TODAY? Not by a Longshot. But neither am I arrogant enough to dismiss his talent, accomplishment, and the influence his playing has had on literally generations of guitarists. Go listen to Machine Gun. Or really any other of his songs they don't play on the radio. You'll see why he's considered one of the greats, and yes, a genius. Page, on the other hand, is a sloppy guitarist who got lucky with finding a sound.

The magic builds as the tune moves forward. That's an outstanding accomplishment in arrangement and performance. A lot of fingerstyle players - and songwriting musicians generally - find the most tasty and powerful magic early on, and then more or less recapitulate it along with some technical innovation as the tune progresses. Here it find whole new levels, as if waking up to itself. Stunning. Brilliant.

@@robertstanko2948 actually, I thought the same when I used the PDF file of the tab. It was really hard and almost impossible to play till I noticed the guitar pro file that the website attached. I've never used guitar pro before I had to buy the software for like 35 euros (my trial expired a long time ago :D ) but it was completely worth it, I can play the tab slowly and see the next note on guitar pro. it really improved my playing. now I'm able to play along with Knet, at least the first 32 seconds.

Even better than the tab you have the video of him playing it and his hands are clearly visible the whole time. Just pull out the guitar and follow along with your hands.

I'd love to have the tab for this. It's brilliant! This guy can really play and arrange. I love what he is doing. I play acoustic guitar using a lot of unorthodox techniques and rhythms which is all interesting but I'm not able to create such accurate arrangements like Kent does. It's amazing what's possible on guitar! Maybe I'll try to create an arrangement like this of something on my page. If you like drumming on the acoustic guitar come and have a look.

One of the really smart moves from Kent is that he hasn't rushed EVERYTHING that he has ever played to KZfaq. Too many really great budding artists just throw everything up there, with terrible production quality, which completely diminishes their brand. Kent, or his handlers, has smartly avoided this--so everything he posts is top quality.

It’s always been an interesting to listen to, say, a piano transcription of an orchestral symphony - you can get a better grasp of the structure, harmonies and melodies. This guy achieves exactly the same effect with his guitar version of songs like this. Africa has all sorts of lovely musical things going on in there, and this version really highlights them. Same goes for his KZfaq video of Everybody wants to rule the world. A joy to watch and to listen to!
