African Cichlids in a 55 gallon Aquarium?

Keeping Africans in a 55 gallon aquarium can work it seems. Make sure you feed enough food though. This is a huge factor for controlling aggression. This is our favorite food.
More fish tank aquarium madness:
So, I’m looking for opinions. I’ve got two swordtails and long story short the green one is a jerk to every other fish I own I’ve got a 20gallon and an empty 10gallon tank and I’ve been really excited about making the 10gallon a Betta tank but I finally had to move the green Swordtail out of the 20 because he’s been nibbling on fins and just relentlessly picking on my fish. So I don’t know if I should just keep him in the 10 and not get the Betta or if I should return him to my lfs. It would be an easy decision but I’ve had him for about 5 months and I’m somewhat attached. What would you all do?
keep him in quarantine by himself for a week .. some fishes stop being aggressive if that character isn’t their nature..btw he’s good looking boy. I had a nightmare where I decided to put goldfish in all my tanks! All of them! Not a single different fish.. just goldfish...
I have totally had aquarium nightmares. I’ve dreamt that I had an aquarium that I just forgot about and never cleaned and it grew like weird squid species. I think my subconscious was telling me to do a wc.
I had a nightmare like this once. I had a basement full of aquariums housing axolotls that I didn’t maintain and one grew to be the size of a medium dog and had a bunch of fungus and rot all over its body. Scared the crap outta me. Alyson Bruce which is all so dumb because realistically all that would happen is the water level would go down really low and all the fish would die of starvation before anything else. but nope, my brain manufactured mutant squids.
African Cichlids in a 55 gallon aquarium will work. I had a nightmare that I was supposed to crochet a red sweater for someone but I didn’t have enough time to do it nevermind the fact I don’t even know how to crochet a sweater. The first thing I saw when I woke up was a ball of red yarn.
I had a dream where my husband loaded my 55 down with piranhas. One of them died and I was too scared to get it out... Because, well, piranhas ya know. When I woke up I had to go make sure the tank was as it should be. I had a 150g tank pop once and ever since then I have recurring nightmares about my tanks breaking and flooding the house
They're always worse after I get a new tank. When I got my 220g I barely slept cause nightmares. Some dreams are messages from God. It could mean that there is something coming to you that you don't yet have the capacity to keep. If you ask Him, maybe He'll enlarge your capacity.
That's not at all what he had said in the original comment, he was not saying that God was in complete control. God cannot manipulate free will and the ability to think on your own accord, and neither can I. So I suppose you are allowed to believe in what you want and we can believe in what we want. Taking a stab at our faith over a Facebook comment isn't going to lessen it. He most definitely wasn't trying to convert anyone. We are all here to appreciate fish and learn how to properly care for them. Let's leave it be and move on.
I've had a dream that I forgot about a bunch of tanks that I had different fish in, like tetras of some sort and one was a Oscar and some others, and I finally remembered them after like six months. So I run and look and some how they were still alive and some were breading and having some mutant babies and it was just really weird.
I often dream that I discover a door in my basement and inside, there are huge tanks.... and I mean huge! All murky with monsters in it (redtail cats, aros and sometimes even an arapaima lol). I always wonder how I could forget I owned such beasts.... i always wake up feeling confused.
My guppy died. Now I am back to 2 nerite snails. I am thinking better gravel vac will help. I had only been doing the top of substrate. But now I can see how much crap I have been missing. Any thoughts on how to best clean the crap but not screw up my cycle or do snails not get affected by that? I do want to do fish again but not till I know tank is how it should be. Thanks.
Tank is 10 gal. Been running for over a year but I never had the ammonia spike I have read about here. Currently no plants but would like to add some easy ones. Substrate is small stones I didn't start with seeded filter because I listened to petsmart and just added that liquid bacteria and the stuff for chlorine.The light is led, blue and white. One of those long strips.
The amount of your cycling bacteria living in the substrate should be negligible. Just don't change the filter, and you should be able to aggressively vacuum without causing any problems.

That is a overstocked tank and it will cause stress on the fish and cleaning the tank will be much harder because of the waste they produce which causes higher ammonia and nitrite levels which can make the fish sick and even die.

Why not? Don’t be crazy, those fish are mostly 4 inch Long and their aggressivness is in my experience overrated. One time i needed to add my zebra cichlid to mbuna group in 55 gallon. I Lost on yellow mbuna, melanochromis auratus had Big damage on a side, but now he is fine. Overall we say „yes sure” to keep so aggressive cichlids like zebra in 55 gallon, but we say no for almost community fish like mbuna?

I have 40 in 55 gallon the more the better because they will not kill each other if you have less that fish will keep going after the same fish and stress it out. Make sure you have alot of filtration and do water changes I do it every other week. To me to keep 6 fish in a 55 gallon is boring might as well not even bother with it.

I have around 50 African cichlids and 17 syndontis in 55 gallon all doing good no aggression at all I have good filteration had them now for 6 months all doing good I cut the lid to size to fit more filteration I have a bio wheel 350 a penguin 200 a 75 gallon top fin filter and 40 gallon filter enough for around 200-250 gallon all I know is good filteration is key and I’ve used this tactic for a long time now and I do water changes every 2 weeks to 1 month because of how good my filteration is only lost 2 because they were way small everything else is doing just fine.

I don't know realy anything you could do for a video. Maybe a top 5 favorite fish series? But like for every genus of fish like top 5 tetras and top 5 bottom feeders stuff like that maybe? That's all I got maybe it's worth the shot cuz than you can do a min8 care guide for each fish so more starters can learn and plus people like top 5s👍👌

I've got 4 Bumblebee cichlids in a 55 and I think that I could get away with adding one more. Got them last July and they have been doing well and I love the color of them. But I am looking for someone who is knowledgeable of that particular cichlid to tell me whether or not that would work for the size aquarium. I have to save up for a much larger one if I want to continue with cichlids though because I wouldn't be as limited as to how many that I can have generally speaking. Four or five cichlids aren't very much but I know better than to add another 4 to the aquarium I have and if I get a larger one I would then be able to get a lot more of the guys 😁 I just feed them pellets and flakes.

@joshuarasmussen6286
@joshuarasmussen6286 5 жыл бұрын
I would say for the pleco no, just for it they need 125 or more. But it more or less depends for the Africans. I would say probably not because 60s are unusually really tall. I would upgrade to a traditional 75 if possible, but if you can I'd get a 125

It’s actually not the ph the parameters are not that different but it’s like he said the Jaguar is super aggressive and they get up to 16 inches and require a 120 gallon tank alone without any friends. The Oscar could go alone in the 75 tho. I learned a terrible lesson with a 9 inch Jaguar I owned😅

I’m sure it works in a 55 with the right Fish but the only way to know if they are the write fish is to try it and remove the ones that are to aggress so I think to do Africans in a 55 you need a another tank to remove the aggressive one but why go through the hassle just get a bigger tank and not have to deal with the aggression so much I have a bunch of tanks 5 90s and a 220 next to no issues in the 220 if you watch Adams C s videos where he had issues with his 220 then he moved is face into smaller tanks he lost quite a few fish that explains a lot I went through the same thing bigger bigger tanks it’s better it’s been preached for a long time save the hassle
