Sweet! "Under My Thumb" is one of my favorite songs of theirs, retrograde lyrics notwithstanding. The marimba riff on top of the groovy bass line gives the song something of a Motown feel. The Rolling Stones were marketed as the bad boy alternatives to The Beatles. They wrote many songs with potentially offensive lyrics, but these are so over the top they're probably meant to be cheeky, that is, impudent or irreverent, rather than serious.

Under my thumb, is a saying, to control someone against their will, maybe for their own good, but people have a free will, to allow this to happen. It can be a form of abuse.

I think the song wouldn't have been recorded like that today. If it did it would, quite rightly, be critised, similar to Eminem etc have been. Having said that it is still a great sound.

Most men would not even be able to think in these terms in a relationship with a woman. But Mick is a rock star and probably can get away with having this attitude toward a woman in a relationship. This song is a myth that many men would like to believe is possible but know can never happen.
