Saw an interview with Burt Bacharach (music) and Hal David (lyrics) who said the song is about a young wife praying for her husband who is over in Vietnam fighting in the war. Bacharach and David wrote SO MANY great songs. The Carpenter's "Close to you," Herb Alpert's "This guys in love with you," BJ Thomas "Raindrops keep falling on my head," The Fifth Dimension's "One less bell to answer," and Dionne Warwick's "Alfie," just to name a few.

Somebody produced a series of picture books for small children where the text was taken from the lyrics of various soul classics. The illustrations for this one showed a mother saying them to her young daughter. Very beautiful.

Hey Fay this was a cover of a song by Dionne Warwick who did a beautiful job as well. Aretha is so powerful she is not called the queen of soul for nothing. But don’t miss out on Dionne Warwick and she is also worth discovering. my interpretation is couples that pray together stay together. ❤️👍😊

Known as the Queen of soul music. She had one of the greatest voices in music and she was one of the biggest star in all of music.

I had forgotten this song, but the early cadences marked it as a Dionne Warwick song. Sure enough, a little research shows that Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote “I Say a Little Prayer” for Ms. Warwick to sing and that she sang it more generically for “the babies” being sent to the disastrous anti-Communist-Republican, pro-Democracy Vietnam War, in a response to the “Civil War” - really a Democratic Insurrection against the Union - ballad, “Just Before the Battle Mother”. My own mother lamented us stepping into the mess the French created by suppressing a peasant’s revolt, and we could see the havoc that that democratic mercantilist imperialist war wreaked when some of the older kids in the neighborhood started coming back from Vietnam in body bags.

Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote "I Say a Little Prayer" for Dionne Warwick who took the song to the tops of the U.S. charts in 1967. Aretha Franklin recorded it for her album, Aretha Now, and took the song back to the tops of the U.S. charts in 1968. She gives the song a touch of bossa-nova. And while Warwick has a wonderful singing voice, Franklin embellishes the song with flourishes few other singers can touch.
