The American dream is the main reason why, for centuries the United States of America has been the number one destination for generations of immigrants. During all these years each immigrant, hitting the road, to come legally or illegally in this country, believes that anybody, regardless of his or her origins, can achieve prosperity and success for himself and his family. They come from all over the world, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. And for some of those who eventually settle in the country, the dream can become a reality. VOA’s Arzouma Kompaore gives us a closer look at these African immigrants who are transforming their lives in America.

Prosperity don't come out that way overnight, what most people see at a glance wealth, a perfect career, purpose is the result of hard labour and hustle done over time. I pray anyone who reads this becomes successful in life.

@@daanlucas8061 From my perspective, this highlights the importance of having a competitive advantage as investors, merely mirroring the market strategies of others insufficient in achieving optimal results. I'm currently grappling with the decision to invest in the current market, as it presents both uncertainty and opportunity.

According to Census data, more than 43 percent of African immigrants hold a bachelor’s degree or higher -- slightly more than immigrants from East Asia. Nigerian immigrants are especially educated, with almost two-thirds holding college degrees -- a significantly higher percentage even than Chinese or South Korean immigrants. African immigrants are also very likely to hold advanced degrees, many of which are earned at U.S. universities. By many measures, African immigrants are as far ahead of American whites in educational achievement as whites are ahead of African-Americans. That education translates into higher household income. Nigerian Americans, for instance, have a median household income well above the American average, and above the average of many white and Asian groups, such as those of Dutch or Korean descent. These numbers not only apply to college success but to high school as well. Census data indicates that 86.4% of the African-born population in the United States age 25 or older has at least a high school diploma. This is only true for 78.9% of Asian-born immigrants, and 76.5% of European-born immigrants. When people think of immigrants in the United States excelling in universities, they consider Asian Americans to be the most educated group. Recent data suggests that this is an incorrect assumption. The most recent Census Bureau study reveals that African immigrants have the most success in the American higher education system. This is not only true for recent immigrants. It is also accurate for students in the U.S. with parents who were African-born.

African immigrants stand on the shoulders of African Americans but only few recognize this. African immigrants benefit from the Black American struggle although they've never "struggled" in America - (ie: Black scholarships, Black Business grants, college programs are resources Black immigrants benefit from). African Americans have also contributed to Africa's development (building schools, orphanages etc) but African immigrants have never in history contributed to African American community besides calling us an Akata - or scamming us when we attempt to go back to Africa. Black Americans love Africa but the support has never been reciprocated.

I’m from The Gambia, an engineer, owner of a construction company in Florida and 95% of my employers ployees are African American and have been in business for 27 years. Please do not generalize. I came here in 1976 as a high school junior to an white boarding school with scholarship from there I went to another all white college called Georgia institute of technology in downtown town Atlanta. So I didn’t succeed on the back of African Americans as you insinuated. My friends in college were African Americans and Caribbeans for the most part. To be clear, I have never had scholarship from a black college because I didn’t go to one, never used any public assistance program here and I pay my taxes. My brother likewise went to Morehouse but never been on scholarship and I’m not talking about anyone else. So take your grudge somewhere.
