I grew up using a outside toilet and bathroom constructed with concrete for the floor and wood and tin for the covering and walls.. All the people came together in my village and build it for my mom when she build her house. I think you should get the villagers together in a team effort and construct a few pit toilets. Use wood to make the seat and the toilet house. Then open a go fund me page ,ask for support to construct concrete proper community toilets. I visited a small village once and they had community toilets and bathrooms. I was impressed at how clean it was. I was told that each family in the community took turns cleaning and maintaining it. Maybe you can have a system like that.

Ms Dosha I grew up in the 70’s there was no water, no lights, no TV. I remembered we had to be up before the sun comes up to walk almost a mile to get water to full all the drums and containers, my brothers had to take out the sheep, goat, let the fowls out and sweep the yard, girls had to clean the house while my mom prepare breakfast the we had to be at school before 8am. After school we take showers and do homework before the sun set. We had bottle lamps and outdoor toilet and no one want to go there when it’s dark. After we ate dinner and my dad would listen to death announcement and lottery, some moonlight nights we would sit on the front stairs and listen to ole tyme stories. Lights out time for bed. Same thing all over again next day, I had a wonderful childhood, love your videos keep them coming ❤️❤️

When I was young we didn't have toilet. Adult went in the Bush not too far from the village to relieve themselves. In the Bush the use some sort of pointed wood to dig holes to relieve themselves. They use leaves as toilet paper but in an hygienic way.you have to cover the hole consistently to avoid animals to dig out your waste. The place we washed is made in bamboo trees or any sort of wood, without a roof on it. It's fantastic. These days we have some sort of modern toilet but many prefer to move to the Bush until today. Your village scenery is exactly the same in my village. The design of the houses made with mud and wood. I love your channel because it reminds me of my village. People tend to modernize it but I still love the ancient ways. Thank you so much for sharing ! Love from Ivory Coast.

Where I grew up. It’s mandatory. Every household have to dig a latrine ( cesspool or outdoor house)the local chief made sure they inspected each month. It was and still is that waste matter is taken care of in case there’s an outbreak of disease. Hygiene was important to the villagers...... good

This is something simple. Just organize the youth to be digging pit latrine from one house to another. Community work. There is enough space in your back yard. That is not an excuse.

In my place we had similar situation of people not having toiletry until the government stepped in by introducing standards for housing. Until now your house must comply with those standards which at minimum include having a basic pit toiletry. Should you be non compliant, your neighbours will report you immediately. The problem is more on mindset as most of those people have grown up living that way. It will be really difficult to make an instant change. It takes lots of ages of grand scale educational efforts to get them understand the importance of using toilet. However you can start small by building one for your family members. However remember that building the toilet is one thing and make people use it is another different and complex thing.

A sweet comment for my girl. My sweet, precious 💖 💕 sister. Sweetheart, you're lovely!! God bless you all. It's beautiful that you live a simple and healthy, humble life. You are the model woman for every other woman upon planet Earth. The fact you don't complain and take each challenge with gracefulness as you do. It's a message of inspiration. Bless you, my Dearest sister. And please 🙏 take care as you do, mother. She is an excellent teacher and example for mothers everywhere. Build her, her own private bathroom close to the house where she doesn't have to walk too far away to do her business. This way, her reliabilities will be taken into more careful consideration.

Miss Dosha, I really respect your community for maintaining traditions and culture, however, I am wondering don't people in your village aspire to change from the way they did things 20 years ago to embracing some modern ways? How would you want your children to live? the same way you did? I think it is time people embraced positive changes which are meant to improve their lives for the better e.g constructing toilets near homes. It makes it convenient, I can imagine if one wants to ease themselves at night..he..he

Thank you for the information…..We live in a world of various cultures, and can’t or shouldn’t compare one’s way of life with another…..I’ve always taught my kids growing up that….”different doesn’t mean bad”. Staying in Florida briefly, two of our boys attended a camping weekend with a Church group. On returning home they had a lot to share….The greatest story was about going to a “latrine” to do #1 and 2…..What a laugh we all had as they endeavoured to give details….(I’m from the Islands….I’ve taken my kids home a few times….but we stayed with relatives with in house bathrooms or in the hotel), so this was new and fascinating….an adventure!! I had the opportunity however, to teach them a lot about culture….Their adventure wasn’t wasted…..!!

The cost for having an outhouse/latrine dug too much? What does it typically cost? My parents grew up with "outhouses"---small wooden shacks around a deep pit dug, with a wooden box with a hole for seat. They used corncobs and crumbled paper from catalogs and newspapers for cleaning themselves & kept a bucket of lime nearby to periodically throw down a shovelful of lime for hygiene---the lime cuts down on odor and germs.

I live in the United States and there are many people who do pit toilets or what we call an outhouses, I live in an area where we are blessed with indoor toilets with running water. It is expensive to build a home with indoor plumbing so cost is difficult for anyone wherever you live. Perhaps in your village several families could join together with enough money to build a pit toilets at some point. Your area is beautiful and your homes are made to deal with the heat, they make sense! I enjoy your videos thank you for sharing, be safe!

Very much enjoyed your video. Mom grew up with an outdoor toilet, called an outhouse, with a very deep dugout hole and open hole wooden seats above. When it got full, they filled it in with dirt and started over in a different place. I have heard it said that people who prefer going further from the home don't like having the smell or germs close to living space. But I know that in India, it became dangerous for women. Some were being attacked in the nights especially, if they awoke and had to go out to the woods.

Hello Miss Dosha. I used to love climbing trees when I was a young girl but now I am old and can no longer climb. We have toilets inside our house, with water to wash the waste away in pipes and carry it to a septic tank underground. But they are expensive, and we have to pay for the water we use every month. When I was younger I used to like to go out in the woods and stay for fun, then we used the bushes for a toilet and dug a hole to bury it. There are some people where I live that have what we call "outhouses", which is a tiny room built over a hole in the ground and a bench with a hole in it over the hole. When it is full they bury it and dig another hole in another place. There are others that use "composting" toilets. The waste goes into a large container, after it is full it is carried away and another container is put under the toilet. The waste container sits for two or three years, then it is emptied in the garden and is safe to use for fertilizer for the family vegetables.
