President of India - Head of the Armed Forces. President acts on the behalf of Parliament (and in some cases Cabinet's recommendation). PM is head of Executive/Administrative Branch (ruling the country), he/she can't declare the war.

@@munagalavrrthats indeed true but it is also true that in most cases the president is from the ruling party so basically under the prime minister. also president cant just decline any request from prime minister. the head of armed forces things is basically just on paper. president cant just do anything on his own so yeah thats why i pointed out the president's power on paper.

@@cathey7 Based on the protocol, PM can't reach out to President directly unless there is an emergency (educated guess). Look at the reasoning behind why universally respected Adbul Kalam didn't get second term as President. Avoid mixing politics and powers (otherwise you are attributing motives).

@@munagalavrrtbh everyone knows it already and its even written off in most textbooks that president has no immediate powers yes everything needs his/her signature and his/her permission but he/she cant keep on declining bills if its passed by the lok sabha and rajya sabha again and again, he/she cant directly order armed forces on his/her own. also politics and power are definitely co-related in our country. take for instance the emergency implemented during Indira gandhi's rule as a prime minister it is said officially that under indira gandhi's suggestion President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared emergency when there was literally no need so yes everyone knows what goes behind the doors. its all protocol on papers. president cant decline a prime minister's request. for example the demonetization of 2016 the president at the time Pranab Mukherjee didnt even know about such a bold step from the government he only came to know when it was announced by PM Modi. there are lots of other instances too. also APJ Abdul Kalam didnt get second term because in 2002 BJP was the ruling party and in 2007 when APJ Abdul kalam's term ended, it was congress party as ruling party. president is chosen with the voting of members of parliament so its obvious that the party who's in majority wins most of the time. the candidate who has the ruling party in his/her support wins. so this is how politics and power works in our country.

thats not always true...some regiments are state based alright, but some are region specific (like the SSF - special frontier force. Rajputana Rifles or Mountain Strike Corp etc) and some are even tribe or caste based, though now most of the caste/tribe based regiment do have representation from other castes and tribes, for eg. Mahar regiment (though people of other caste too can join this now) or Rajput regiment but other regiments like Gurkha regiment (of whose great Sam Manekshaw sir was legendary representative) or Sikh regiment, the person of similar caste is a strict criteria, though officers are of mixed representation! This is how diverse our army is just like our Nation, but still strongly bonded....the true aspect of Unity on diversity! Jai Bharti!!
