0:00 Table Mountain is one of the most majestic sights in Cape Town and a must visit
1:17:14 The Groote Schuur Zoo was a 2-hectare (4.9-acre) zoo in Cape Town, South Africa. Established in 1931 at the request of deceased Cecil Rhodes,[1] it was free of charge and a very popular attraction in Cape Town until its closure sometime between 1975 and 1985. The zoo shut down due to a combination of the financial burden that the Apartheid government faced and an increase in animal welfare standards.[2] During its operation, it housed many animals including lions, emus, crocodiles and tahrs. The zoo can still be visited today, as it has been abandoned and left open to the public. The most prominent feature of the zoo is the Lion's Den, both when it was open and today where it still stands, full of overgrown vegetation.[2]
3:42:20 The story goes like this, way back when, the governor of Cape Town made an enemy. As revenge, the enemy found a flute used by a leper and presented it to the gov’s son. The son contracted the disease and his own family forced him into exile.
He fled to a hut in the Table Mountain forests and lived alone, just him and his flute, until the day he died.
Legend has it, as the sun starts to set in Cape Town, you can still hear the haunting and sad sounds of his flute.
Verlatenbosch translates to “bush of the forsaken”
