Johan Cruijff speelde op 7 november 1978 zijn afscheidswedstrijd tegen Bayern München. Wat een feest had moeten worden, werd een boze droom: 0-8. Een terugblik met diverse betrokkenen.

Het was onlangs, tijdens het Europees kampioenschap hockey, dat Johan Cruijff, of hij het nu wilde of niet, even herinnerd werd aan de veelbesproken wedstrijd tegen Bayern München. Cruijff was als toeschouwer bij het toernooi, dat in zijn woonplaats Barcelona werd afgewerkt. Het Nederlandse mannenteam won die dag met 8-0 van Italië, een opmerkelijke uitslag bij een opmerkelijke interland, want het was de 250e van de nummer 14 (ook dat nog) van de nationale hockeyploeg, Teun de Nooijer.

Lekker een peukie roken 😂. Nu leven we in een wereld waar cameraploegen vanuit Hilversum naar het stadion gaan omdat er een speler een broodje kroket naar binnen stond te duwen en daar een nieuwsitem over maken...

+jkj10 Why? Because the Germans have been insulted as "nazis" by the Dutch supporters? Because the Dutch fans spitted at him when they walked to the dressing room in the half-time? This is what happened in and around this match. If you are treated like that you would do anything to win the match as well. I really don't like Bayern Munich, because that is the most arrogant football club in Germany, but in this case, you can't blame them.

jkj10 So? It is completely natural that they acted that way in exactly that situation. Of course that was bad for Cruijff, but I just can't blame the Bayern team for their reaction. Let alone that it is somewhat embarrassing for Ajax if they get beat up 0-8.
