From growing up in South London to the multiple unsuccessful trials and plans to give up playing, I signed my first professional contract with Crystal Palace a few months before my 22nd birthday. In 1991 I signed for Arsenal Football Club where I scored 185 goals in 288 appearances. I went on to play 581 league games, scoring 387 goals for seven clubs in England and Scotland, earning 33 caps for the English national team.
I am now fortunate enough to have a football broadcast career working for the BBC & ITV.
Some Career Achievements:
185 goals in 288 appearances for Arsenal (2nd all time leading goal scorer)
117 goals in 253 starts for Crystal Palace (leading post war goal scorer)
33 caps for England Men’s National Team

Mate, this is soo emotional. I still remember as a kid hearing that Arsenal signed Wrighty. It’ an excitement I’ve not had again with any signing since and I doubt I ever will. Watching him reunited with all these amazing momento’s has made my day, I can only imagine how great it must have been for him. Well deserved to one of the greatest players and men to ever wear an Arsenal shirt.

@@ace-paidinfull5240 it was honestly a huge deal for Arsenal fans at the time. He was the top striker in England back then. We might have made top quality (and comparatively more expensive) signings from other leagues since like Ozil and Sanchez, but Wright was an English player who was the best in the league, so we knew we were getting a guaranteed, great player. He didn’t disappoint either, he never sold out or quit respecting the club or the fans. Love that guy.

That FA Cup final really started it all for me because in Trinidad we didn't get league games. When I saw Wrighty in that final I was mesmerised. I thought this guy is amazing. I thought "Palace is my team". Then I saw he moved to Arsenal and the rest is history. Now I am a gooner for life! I am happy that you, who brought happiness to so many of us, can get some more happiness in your life. I need to start a collection of videos of Wrighty that made me cry lol.

I was at the training ground many years ago, in the days when you were allowed to approach the players in the car-park, I asked Mr Wright if he would pose for a photo with my step-daughter, even though he was in a hurry, he was out of his car spent loads of time with her and signed her number 8 shirt, I had it framed for her along with a couple of the photos of them together. It was on her bedroom wall until she left to go to Uni, it was the last thing to go in the van, and the first thing to go on her bedroom wall when we got there. She still treasures it to this day, and is still Arsenal barmy. Thanks Wrighty.

Wrighty you are the reason i support Arsenal today, my uncle almost made me a leeds fan at the age of 8 and was even given a scarf but within that week, i went to my cousins house and found a massive A2 poster of you after you scored your 100th Arsenal goal and i was since that day a loyal Arsenal fan. over the recent years since you been back in media, I actually got to know the legend that made me choose this fantastic club and man we all have so much love for you and couldnt be happier to see you reunite with your football accolades.

What these guys have done is amazing, nothing short of what a club legend and icon deserves. One of the best strikers to wear an Arsenal shirt and one of the best strikers the country has produced.
