That Explorer is such a cool little truck based SUV. I'm glad it is going back to its original family.

Had a 91 sport 5 speed manual transmission 4.0 V6 engine and the sport was a two door so it looked so much sportier and it has cruise control. Once it’s in 5th gear which is considered overdrive you can activate the cruise control. What a great truck it never failed me once in anything never got stuck in snow or sand and it always started every time. If you maintain it properly it will last. That is the XLT I didn’t have that version so I assume it’s very similar .

Still dailying the 1993 Explorer Sport 2wd that my mom bought new in 1993. Those 1st gens are like old Hondas and VW Beetles. 471K on all original drivetrain. That's why I never replaced or "upgraded". There is no point. It does what I need, still looks great at 30, paint is even holding up. And in my capable mechanical hands, maintenance and repairs are relatively cheap and a cinch.

This video makes my car person in me happy. The circle of life is died. Old girls may look rough but it's the small things that makes us love certain stuff. Small and big.

When I moved across the country in 2006 I did it in a 1992 Explorer Sport. No working gas gauge made it an adventure for sure.

Back in early 90s the two top vehicles in Boulder CO were Explorers and Saabs (esp convertibles). Every Saturday morning a steady stream of them rolled into Moe's Bagels.

Lol, I had a '94 Explorer that had the same "goo" issue on the steering wheel. I just put a cover on it so it stopped getting all over my hands. I really miss that truck though, it was my first vehicle when I was 16 and got it with 120k on it in 2002, and it lasted me 15 years until I gave it to my bro in law with 250k on it and he junked it because he couldn't afford tires on it. =( It ran great still at the time and my son misses it as well. I would give about anything to get it back again now.

Had a 94 ranger, new clutch, had to replace upper and lower "ball joints" outer tie rods, that's about it. Probably still have it if a tree didn't fall on it and total it out. Had 198,000 miles, very solid
