Totally agree! Moving to Alberta in a few weeks as well! How have you guys been finding it so far?

Great move! I really liked it so far it’s definitely more of a driving city though then Toronto however if you have a car it’s not that bad. There’s not as many places to go out however the bars are usually pretty packed especially during happy hour. They have a cheaper sales tax so things in general here feel cheaper which is definitely a bonus

Calgary is so dependent on the energy sector - tends to be boom or bust a lot of the time. Good luck with the move!

I hope you find what you are looking for in Calgary. One solution about the traffic would have been to live downtown but if owning a house is what you need to have in life then you are best to move.

Will certainly miss the Toronto content you make, but I 100% understand your rationale behind the move. I hope Calgary treats you well! Curious to see the Calgary content too. Always exciting to move somewhere new. Cheers!

Do you realize that just under one million other people have left the province over the last three years too? Mostly well-paid technology professionals and healthcare workers. That is a staggering number to conceive of.

I spent close to 30 years in Toronto. I moved out to a quieter town in B.C. Toronto is no longer the same city I grew up in. My friends and family are still there and I love visiting, but I can't see myself ever living there again.

Hey Matt, I’m from Hamilton and it would have been cool to meet u in person. I never been to Calgary but want to go for vacation. Yes, I also have heard housing out there is way better than Ontario. My wife and I are also looking for a place to call our own and renting is also insane. Lucky for now we are in my grandparents house. I told her we can go look at some properties around hamilton/Stoney creek area, but I think once she sees the actual break down of everything as in price, she might have a second thought! But good luck on your journey and hopefully will see more videos from you. Also what is your Instagram account? Cuz I believe I’m following you but it’s been a while. Much respect for you bold decision!

Wishing you the best on your move to Calgary, I heard how expensive its getting up in Toronto. Over here in NYC is getting really exepensive too.

Good decision ,I was in Paris 1980 ,subway infrastructure was way better than toronto today 2023 because subway cars had rubber wheels means little noise &u get headache in ridingsubway here. network covered 20 times more areas of Paris in 1980 .wait who r these managers?

I know at least 6 people (not including you) who have left Toronto, and 3 of them left Ontario all together since the pandemic. I would leave too if I could afford it. And I work in the food industry, so I would need to line up a job before moving. And as bad as the pay is, it's probably the highest here in Toronto. Back in Alberta's oil sands boom like 10 years ago, I knew a lot of people who moved out to Calgary till the energy market crash, I'd stay clear of that industry as best as possible. I wish you luck.

I think you will love it in Calgary.. at least for a while, although I think it is very different to Ontario.. I moved myself to a small town to escape the housing prices and traffic and I love it.. best of luck

I would agree. I just don’t think you get what you pay for here in Toronto, as good of a city as this is. The problem is that even Calgary and most places in Canada, the weather is brutal in the winter. I see myself trying to live in Canada 6 months a year (warmer months) and spend the rest of the year abroad in cheaper countries where your dollar gets you further like Colombia or Thailand. Just in the process of creating a professional life that is remote friendly

Good luck! I’m actually trying to do the same and spent half the year and Brazil with my wife’s family.

Hopefully we will also make the move there soon buddy :) Ontario is a grind pit, plagued by persistent mediocrity, due to actual hard work and excellence not being rewarded properly.

I am glad you found your ticket to freedom. Calgary is a wonderful place for ex-Torontonians. But some scary numbers for you to consider will make Life in Toronto worse. We are expecting 200,000 immigrants a year jsut in Toronto and the GTA for the next decade. It is expected as many as 10% of those people arriving will end up in homeless shelter, which is scary. Shelters in the last three years have expanded from 6,000 beds to over 9,000 beds and projections are for that number to double in the next three years since extraordinarily little low-income and deeply affordable housing will be built by the conservative government. With over 70% of those current beds being occupied by immigrants who have been here less than 5 years! We could end up looking a lot like Sandiego or some cities in California with tent cities everywhere. Finally, Ontario (Yes, the whole province) has never managed to build more then 152,000 houses in Total. But to compound this the average experienced plumber, electrician, carpenter, framing carpenter, and concrete forming specialists is over 55 years old with no replacements in the pipeline for the next decade to match their levels of experience. Current projections call for just under 1.25 million housing units to be needed for just the next three years. Combine that with rising rents and seniors who can't afford the rising rents and there is a crisis of apocalyptic proportions for at least the next twenty years. While I realize many of these issues don't affect you directly, they affect the quality of life for everyone in the city and the province.
