SPEDS TRAIN ALL ABOARD THE SPEDS TRAIN FOR SPEDS
@soundshaper4 жыл бұрын
Heh when these were still new trains, the A was running R-9s until 1977 and R-10s dominated for awhile, too. Hardly saw these on A to Rockaway until 1980. 11 years after, I think the D train always got the newer trains first. I still love the early AC cooled trains, IND was a good respite on a hot NYC day in the 70s, IRT took until the 80s to retrofit R-16s and R-22s. That was great, to finally have AC on B'way and 7th Av line.

David Ng ..., Would you happen to know what will become of them ?? I imagine that at least one will be destined for a transit museum ? Unless, they’ll be dismantled for scrap metal.
@davidng23364 жыл бұрын
Since the reefing program ended, they will be scrapped. Luckily, several have been preserved. Cars 4572-4573, which was used in the movie The French Connection, has been saved and preserved by the New York Transit Museum. Cars 4736-4737 exists at Transit Tech High School. Finally, car 4665 has been preserved by the transit museum as well. 4665 is the famous R40M-R42 mate. Of these, only 4572-4573 is operational and used during the many NYC Subway Nostalgia trips, with 4460-4665 set for future restoration. At this time it is unknown if any more pairs will be saved.
@BritanniaPacific3 жыл бұрын
David Ng the 4665/4460 pair are owned by the railway preservation corps. Don’t know if they’re part of the transit museum or if they’re a separate organization. But their r10 did run as part of the museum’s own nostalgia trips, so they must be.
