Delving into the history of AE it became clear that she rarely flew without Fred Noonan at her side, an expert aviator. I have been recently learning about another female pilot, her name was Bessie Coleman, she was black. She got her pilots license in 1921, she was the first African American female to achieve that, actually she was the first African American ever to achieve that. Unfortunately, she was killed in 1926 when she fell from the plane she was flying in as the passenger in Jacksonville FL. Apparently, her pilot, who was her mechanic, left a tool in the cockpit that got stuck in one of the controls of the plane which caused the plane to roll over, and she actually fell from the plane and died. The pilot himself died in the crash. She wasn't just a pilot; she was a stunt pilot who did live air shows performing very risky stunts in the air. As I watch this, I wonder what she could have achieved if she hadn't died so young. This could have been a story about Bessie Coleman being the first female pilot to fly solo over the Pacific Ocean.

At 1:17 that is not Amelia Earhart, that is Shirley Temple. How much of this can we believe. This thing shows a multitude of aircraft many of which are represented as Amelia Earhart's plane, The voice-over repeats itself, and the video appears to go back on itself and start in the same place several times. If the people who made this video were directing Earhart's journey she would have gotten lost and crashed a lot sooner, and quite possibly on the Moon.

Read "Amelia Earhart, mystery solved" by Elgen Long & Marie Long. The take-away is that while "brave", her and Noonan, were unbelievably foolish. Radio nav equipment that would absolutely help them find the dot of an island in the middle of the ocean, was misunderstood and very little trained on. They refused to learn morse code, which everyone used as voice comms were unreliable. Their frequency band hopping and timing schedule was never updated or verified, and if you missed a comm, the next check-in time was 30 minutes away. Crazy

This is ridiculous that she set records for female pilots. Aviation is not male or female. These are aviation achievements attributed to individuals. Altitude records are simply altitude records. There are not female altitude records or male altitude records. You've either set a record or you have not. If there is a current aviation altitude record but a woman sets one that is less than this record we don't say it's an altitude record because it's a woman. If the record falls short it falls short. It's not a record.

Howland was such a speck in the middle of the vast Pacific that it seems strange to me that they would try to take such a 'big bite' on such a desolate part of the journey. Looking at a map, it seems there were several alternatives that would have cut this leg of the journey in half and THEN maybe going for Howland. Tonga was more or less along the way. But then I thought, maybe it was already Japanese held. No, not in 1937. That idea was spawned by a theory that they landed on a Japanese held island and eventually were executed. A show on the History Channel pushed this idea forward to the point they had a photo of several people on a pier, one a female that resembled Amelia from behind. Alas, later, it turned out to be some sort of promotional photo for an island adventure of some sort that was taken a few years before 1937. WOW, the Irene Bolam theory might hold water. The resemblance is remarkable! I don't know why they are showing SCUBA divers in the segments re the finding of the plane. The deepest SCUBA divers can go today (and with EXTENSIVE training) is about 1000'.

The leg to Howland Island was over 2500 miles. I don't think they flew far enough. Then decided to run North and South, thinking they were far enough, but just slightly off and thought they would fly right over it and see it. The distance for radio communication was a lot farther than they thought. That's why communication was poor at best. Running pattern North and south for too long, ran them low on fuel. I think if they would have flown father toward Howland, they may have been able to see it and radio communication would have started getting better and clearer. I don't believe they overshot the island because radio communication would at one point started getting very strong and clear. I think they ended up ditching in the ocean. Hoping a search vessel would find them in time. That area of the Pacific is so deep, no one would ever find a plane. Little alone two bodies.

I know this a big no no to say anything to blemish an acknowledged hero by the public. However as stated in the beginning of this video as " a gifted pilot". The fact is she was not a great pilot as stated because she wrecked planes frequently. There was another female much more talented then Earhart. Check out the reality of history.

With today’s technology, they should’ve found the plane by now. Unless there was foul play, they know about where they lost communications and her proximity to the island. If they can find the Titanic 1-1/2 miles deep, they should be able to find a plane that size in 16,000 feet with radar from high tech naval submarines.

Actually, 16,000 ft. is over twice the distance of the Titanic.

@@fuzzamajumula - Either the depth of her plane is WAY off, or it’s not her plane, because there’s a lot of wrong pictures on the internet (which is highly likely) that they show divers swimming around the wreckage, which is humanly impossible at those depths. You can also see sunlight from above the divers as well. I guess we’ll see if they really found it, or not.

The funny thing about this theory is that nobody can prove that they survived beyond the morning of July 2nd 1937! They were in the air over 18 hours and not once did she mention their position in longitude/latitude! Why? 157-337 is based on their position/vantage point. How did TIGHAR locate their starting point in order to find Gardner island? They didn’t, they just drew a line from the island up towards Howland on 337-157 and said this is where they started from.
