Here's a little TRUE story......about five years ago I fancied a Merc w210 estate, I found 1 for sale l, priced at about £1500,anyway I traveled about 90 miles to see it, private seller, seemed genuine, test drive went ok, noticed 1 rear tire below legal limit(car had travelled 15 miles) since last MOT, anyway got it for £900 in the end, so drive it home, then decided to get it checked over at my local garage as I ALWAYS do when buying from a dealer, so up she went, and then the MOT tester started pointing out the leaks, rusty fuel AND brake pipes etc etc, so anyway quite a long list of MOT failures on a car with a full MOT, so I took it home, rang the guy I bought it off, explained to the seller all the faults, told him I wanted a refund and he told me to "go forth and multiply" but I don't give up so easy, so I rang the garage who motd the car, explained the faults that had been found and the MOT tester uttered 3 words "you've done me" he explained that he'd let the faults go as the customer was a friend who promised he was keeping the car ! I said we've got 2 options , either I report you to VOSA, or you pay for repairs as I actually liked the old Merc, so we agreed on him sending me £600 , and money was received and repairs carried out, the motto of this story is , DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING a friend who`s a trader tells you.......

‘Dial an MoT’ certainly exists. I bought a VW Vento around ten years ago from a used car lot. They put a fresh ticket on it, and the MoT station was a few miles away. Yet the mileage on the test was identical to when I collected it. The tyres and bushes definitely suggested that the test had been done over the phone…!

As I’m long out of the trade I feel ok saying what I’m going to say. I’m assuming the seller was another dealer. With our used cars the only stuff we ever blocked or sold on were ‘problem childs’ if the recon costs were viable we’d retail the px ourselves. The scrapes are fair enough but the door is really misdescribed. As you weren’t involved with the MOT you should never assume anything. Either the dealer never looked or drove the car or they misled you. Both options are poor practice. As you’ve never bought from him before and you haven’t even looked at the car you should have offered well below trade value. I suspect it may be he didn’t MOT the car. Perhaps. You wouldn’t”t buy anything from auction sight unseen so hows this different. I”ll bet he’s made at least £250/300 selling it to you having done nothing. Of course i could be wrong which is my bad.

When I was a lot younger I found an early 90s Polo with not MOT for sale. A family friend of mine who was a private dealer offered to pick it up for me and do the work for me to drive it. £300 later the car had passed with a long list of work done to it. I turned up and the car had been hand-painted, springs had been cut and I realised just what I had invested in. I paid for a new set of springs a few weeks later. I drove the car for 3 months and realised that I couldn't rely on it daily. A lad arrived to buy it with intent to use it as his first car, which I advised him wasn't ideal. Him, his Dad and his mate all joined for the test drive. He agreed to take it, with me delivering it a week later as he hadn't even passed his test yet. I didn't make money, but luckily I didn't lose a lot. A month later he messaged me, threatening that I had sold him a heap. He took it to a friend who looked over the car. The Polo should have never passed its MOT as the horn wasn't connected and according to him with a handful of other faults, it was completely corroded underneath. I was annoyed, but realised that I never looked in person at this car, never checked any issues myself and should never have taken this car on, FULL STOP. But, also the MOT tester was clearly not doing a good job and the family friend should have perhaps advised me against the purchase all-round. That car probably could have cost me or someone else their life at some point. Either way, I learned that you should always look at a car before agreeing any price or confirmation of sale. I was too naive to question and just wanted something cool. Sort of unrelated, but it is easy to assume people are being honest and fair. I'm sure you can turn this one round, either way!

There's a tiny wheel on the gearbox side you turn that does this. But changing the oil on it will help. First comment from me. Enjoying your videos mate. About that grey i10. Sounds simple to me, firstly he's been slightly economic with the damage details but going by the "bit of bodywork needed" on my own recent purchase you have very minor damage lol. Secondly, he's clearly swapped the original tyres with decent ones to get it through the mot then put back them back on to sell to you. Either that or a "friend" put it through the MOT.
@yips_way2 жыл бұрын
Just watched to the end of the video - got to add. It had quite a few other advisories last year (including the tyres). If any of those other things are still current i.e springs & shocks then it's clearly a dodgy MOT!!. The rear shocks & springs should now be new or as new if they weren't flagged up this time.
@steveegginton5352 жыл бұрын
The grey i10 is a bit of an enigma- 1 owner, low miles, looks well cared for in some areas but also evidence of negelect and and probably some careless driving by the state of the bodywork! Hope you can give it some cost effective TLC to be able to sell it for a profit. Enjoy the channel and sure it will grow - perhaps you could feature a wider variety of cars if you get your new premises?

Does seem excessively far out to go just for an MOT (tested on September 7th btw) Also, if selling it trade why bother having it tested at all? Like you say, for your own peace of mind it needs testing again to make sure. Or the proper way of doing it is to have an appeal test done... 🤷♂️ The thing with advisories is getting the correct balance between informing the presenter of what they need to know about upcoming defects and covering your own arse. Obviously some don't bother with either, which is their own choice. However an incorrect decision can lead to disciplinary action. Difficult one really, hopefully the low miles will make it worthwhile doing. Take care old chap 👍

As someone not in the trade. If it was private sale/cheapy car. A minor dent in the door and a few scrapes I can live with (I'll have to show you my Focus) as long as it was mechanically sound and not rusting. As for MOTs. We all have a place we go to for MOT testing. There are some dodgy places, and there are some really anal places. If my tester knows it's a fail on something serious it fails end of but if it's not something adverse it gets noted but they know I'll get it sorted. On the other side of the coin there are drivers who don't give a stuff and are driving with just the middle brake light working etc and kick off when it fails for something as simple as non working bulbs as they don't check anything or they expect a car to just work with no issues. As a trader or if I was selling my car then I would tell the guy buying any quirks or things that might need sorting later. Traders especially as if you have a reputation then you need to maintain that reputation.

The MOT is defiantly an interesting . I had one years ago , bought a car from a dealer in Dartford, the rear brake was not working at all, didn't know until i got home nearly 100 miles later. It had just passed a Kwik Fit MOT ?. I complained to the MOT test location not the dealer. Should have spoke to the dealer as well. We live and learn . I would be speaking to the dealer you bought the car from , a refund for tyres would be fair , never mind t5he dints and other stuff you have to deal with .

One thing I don't like about low mileage cars is tyres are usually quite poor. Either worn because they are the originals (particularly on the rear) and/or heavily cracked/perished due to age Although the public want lower milage so they are a lot better really when selling, but I prefer high mileage cars for myself 👍 Funnily enough out of the 7 cars I looked at recently for myself, the one I ended up buying was the highest mileage at 134k! No history (ouch) but it was cheap and looks well looked after, mainly motorway miles etc. It's been a dream for 1500 miles I've done so far. Don't think I'd have been so lucky if I bought an old low mileage alternative 🤔

Bloody hell James. Who was the one owner of that grey i10? Mr Magoo?! 🙈 Regarding the black i10. Didn’t the geezer accept some money back to live with the alleged issue? 🤔 Top video James 😌

If it’s worn synchros it is more likely to crunch on the way down from fourth or fifth than on the way up from second.

Bit of a lean description on the grey i10 bodywork....but your usual rattle can with a new door will see it right. I'm sure most people have a 'preferred' MOT station when you need a ticket and you know it's going to be marginal. Check the service history cos it might've have been there a lot for service and MOT, don't want to cast aspersions but older owner given the scrapes at the corners who's retiring from driving and 'can you give it a last service and MOT so I can sell it and get a bit of cash back?' Maybe done a loyal, long term customer a favour....

The "DEALER" you bought this car from HAS to be confronted and money back. This has to be done as he is going to carry on doing this to more unsuspecting customers. Shouldn't be allowed to carry-on business. YOU HAVE GOT TO DEMAND MONEY BACK - AT LEAST! In any business youv'e got to stand up to what's right - and this "DEALER" is way out of order!

With an i10 or similar or next time. you could probably at the new unit need a customer courtesy car , use one like this (with better tyres - prob going to be worth keeping a small tyre / wheel stock and from time to time on some cars sell with new tyres (VAT Margin noted as maybe cheap sale of car and sell tyres separately / commission from a black circles or whatever), and use good part used on courtesy one. Of course make sure that its the other dealer's sticker in the back window and on number plates. (Actually for the new unit - and maybe channel - you are going to need garage name mugs / beer mats / keyrings / window stickers and number plate surrounds) .

I’d put the car through you guys who do your MOT’s then compare the sheets an reports, then use that as a way of getting some cash back on the car, them tyres looked past there best and I’m looking from as far as Newfoundland Canada !

The mot history for the previous mot had advisory for both rear tyres

Buy back the black i10 I would say if it returns and the new grey i10, the whole nsr door is dented at top too. Might be cheaper finding a same colour door. You can really hear the grouching sound a lot and that’s definitely a dodgy MOT.

Think it's a suspect MOT with tyres the examiner can say It wasn't like that at the time I checked it also with the discs .Loved the "more lippy than my daughter " comment ,,No need to answer every comment ..Just pop a thumbs up on the ones you like time is money LOL

You have to be really careful buying from other dealers I have had a couple of dealers have my paints down on cars!! I now never buy without seeing and driving and some I will check for deleted engine codes, always ask yourself why are they trading it…

Did you check the MOT history before you bought it? MOT August 2020 had advisories relating to tyres, corrosion etc!! Certainly looks like the tyres are the same ones now as only 1946 miles since 2020. Other advisories are also a bit of a worry, in particular, thrust bearing! Looks like your suspicions regarding the current MOT are well-founded!!

I had my black Hyundai i10 up for sale for 1200 originally, all 4 new brake discs and pads. Tyres as new , on Autotrader , nobody called weeks, ended up advertising for £950 and someone begged me for £900 so I sold it just because or am private and fall prey to dealers acting as so called private buyers , I regret it now , cheap tax insurance and fuel consumption , bought a bigger car , dealer didn’t disclose its cat n , found out later fro insurance , asked for a refund he said no and threatened to baseball bat me as I did not ask at point of sale etc , I was calm. , his business is not registered no numbers , he offered to buy it back less 45% of what i paid, I didn’t want the car anymore and to fight this guy , he had 5 weapons in his car shop office , at point of sale I asked why and he said it’s for the drunk trouble makers that walk past his shop, in New Ferry Wirral .

I’ve known a few dodgy mot places.I once went to a mate of a mate,he passed my wife’s Astra,and told me I need brake pipes and 2 x tyres. So I put on tyres and bought 2 x rolls of cunifer and done every pipe. I know a guy who passed a car like what happened with me,but repairs weren’t done and the car was involved in a fatality. And there’s a renowned Garage here that you’d swerve buying a car if it had an mot from them.

I Was an MOT tester in Glasgow 1984 I failed a Vauxhall cavalier with bald tyres on the rear and one wiper blade, he comes back 15 minutes later for retest tyres good on the back and wiper blade okay ,you should have seen the look on that pricks face when I failed it on the front tyres and the passenger wiper blade.🤣comments and stories from anyone out there would be a good laugh, the tosser thought I was born yesterday,

So sorry that a so called friend misled you, reference the door. I would have backed it. Not funny, you will have to be present when making a purchase. You are a good honest man and deserve better.
