Roni Jacobson met her stalker at camp when she was in her early teens - he was a couple of years older. What started out as friendship turned into stalking, bullying and more. She dealt with him for 15 years as he wrote letters to her employers and impersonated her to her to her friends by getting a replica of her email address and phone number. Jacobson tells Megyn Kelly how she dealt with it, what she learned and discusses the essay she published that helped her take her power back.

When I was in college, a female student was shot in the face by a stalker she had be e n trying to avoid. He came to campus and shot her because she was avoiding him. We were all on lock down for hours. She died. Stalking is serious.

I'm not being rude. But maybe she shouldn't have avoided him. Just being honest. Give him a chance. Don't ignore ppl. That's ignorant. If u don't like them or wanna be with them, explain that to them, but in a nice way. Men find rejection very very hard.

@@daynat2349 are you on crack? How is it my responsibility if men can't take rejection well? Deal and transform that negative feeling to something positive then. There are millions of emotionally stable men who deal with rejection in a healthy way. Just because weak men don't want to deal with their emotions doesn't mean that I have to do it for them.

For anyone criticising her presentation skills: she knows that her stalker will be watching her and recording her so that he can watch this over and over again. It must be like being in a courtroom knowing that the person who has caused you so much pain is scrutinising your every word, movement, gesture, intonation and mannerisms. She is very brave to do this; I applaud her.

Seeking status and fame though--Megyn already was discredited and this already was Roni's first television debut. If any of this went to court with Roni's family, be prepared of the NAACP Congressional Legal Fund making a political statement

People criticising this woman need to understand that 15 years is a very long time to be hunted by someone. Stalking is simply a kinder way to state what it is. She is viewed by her predator as his prey and she has been aware of this for a long time. She is choosing her words very carefully because she would not wish to accidentally say something that her stalker may misconstrue as encouragement for his actions. Also with trauma many memories run into each other and it takes a lot of energy to recall exact moments in time, in an effort to explain stuff clearly. Compassion is what this woman needs, not judgement.

Comments are absolutely disgusting. I know what it's like trying to just be nice to someone who doesn't deserve it. It's a tactic used for protection to avoid big ugly situations. You never know how a stranger would react, so you speak with a calm tone of voice with words to match. It helps me feel like I'm in control of the situation. I've been stalked home, online multiple times, had personal numbers posted on adult sites. So much blame for not just blocking him, even though she did, it did not stop him. The first stalker I had I cussed out daily for breathing down my neck while walking home from middle school. He would walk directly behind me home because he knew it bothered me. I'd push him away or run and he would not leave me alone. Yet the school listened to him first when he said I was a bully because he had mental health issues, the female coach said in a tone as if I was supposed to forgive him instantly for that. I've met 4 people in my life fully hiding behind their mental illness to get away with stalking and sexual harassment and they got away every time. If you stay quiet, later people complain why you didn't do it earlier. If you're vocal, everyone nitpicks each detail on how they would have done better in your situation. Like dealing with stalkers is supposed to be natural for everybody.

I'm being stalked, followed by a neighbor. I'm almost 60 years old. I want people to know that stalkers destroy your life. I wake up everyday having to figure out how to live the the day. I no longer have the freedom to come and go as I please. I can never be alone in nature. Walking from my home to my car feels life threatening. Just last night I received a notification on my phone that I have an unknown Apple Airtag on my car. I was food shopping and had to call the police. I have to spend my money on a scanner, motion detector lights, weapons...... My life does not exist really, not any more. I'm just trying to survive.

One of the worst parts about stalking is that it’s SO INTRUSIVE and yet SO INTANGIBLE. Proving you’re being stalked involves getting the authorities to understand the state of mind of the perpetrator instead of their actions. Police don’t think things like a note on a car, a knife in your front yard, a person frequenting YOUR WORKPLACE when they have no business being in that town, or a person on YOUR campus where they have NO BUSINESS WHATSOEVER in being there is a problem; but it’s how they operate. It’s them sending you a message that they’re always there. I’m not sure if police and law enforcement have a unified and effective protocol on how to deal with it.

A graduate teaching assistant started stalking my daughter when she was a freshman. After about 6 weeks she called me one night saying she didn't think she could go to class (where he was lecturing) the following morning. I told her not to go and to send me copies of the text messages and emails he was sending her. I contacted the office of student affairs the next day (Monday), and told them instead of my daughter I'd be the one at his next lecture and would deal with the situation myself if they couldn't. He was never heard from again. Sometimes a dad just needs to handle things in that way only a dad is willing to do.

Article: Early one evening last March, my best friend saw my name pop up in a text notification on her phone. The message, which appeared to come from my gmail account, read: “felt a bit sad today about how I never made any friends at Emory during my time there. Not one. god I’m a loser. all I’ve got is my hair lol.” She called me as soon as she got home from work. “Are you okay?” “What? Yeah, everything’s fine,” I answered. She told me about the text, but even as she spoke we realized what had happened.“Ugh,” I said. “It’s Danny.” My cyberstalker had struck again, this time with a spot on impersonation of me and my neuroses.

I have had multiple stalking situations, most often from people I had been in close relationships with that ended. An ex-husband waited for me to get off work and followed me every night. I drove on backroads until I lost him. An ex-boyfriend locked me a room in our house for several hours when I came to get the last of my belongings. I stayed calm and repeatedly tried to reason with him until he released me on the promise of giving him another chance. I said what I had to. He never got another chance. Still, I never reported it because I didn't think it would do any good. I have a friend who was murdered by her stalker who she had a restraining order against. My point is simply that most people probably don't report, and the benefit of reporting is questionable.

I had to take different routes to get to classes and I couldnt join track and field cuz he was on the team. I had to have someone walk with me all the time. It was inconvenient to say the least. I’ll never understand what compels someone to stalk another person who is clearly avoiding you and doesn’t want anything to do with you. The worst part is that he did this to a lot of girls. And he would ask for hugs and tell someone later that he gets boners off it. It was gross.

Same here, he was acting polite and respectful but was pushing boundaries carefully so I was allowing it as I wanted to be nice. We don't have contact in 2 months now. Hope I won't meet him by accident.

sometimes being rude only makes them more aggressive. I think it's more important to be socially aware of your surroundings and interactions, spotting the red flags when they present themselves, self defense, always try to keep the situation calm, go on life broadcasting so that there's evidence, asking for help, distancing yourself as soon as you can

The stalker doesn't necessarily have to be violent. I was stalked for at least 8 years or so, who knows if my stalker is still watching. He used to leave notes and knives around my place. Thank good the last time he left knives was August 2016!!!

Did you call the police? They can do a DNA test on the notes and knives if you don't touch them yourself. You could get a good restraining order against him and probably some money to pay for your trauma at the psychologist (do that if possible, every dime helps).

I had a woman stalking for 22 years. had to move to get rid of her. An ex kept at it for 4 years, another for two and now I have one thats been at it for 2 years too. It never stops and the police does nothing. Personally I dont get it, if someone TELLS you they dont want any more contact, LET THEM GO!

I went through a small period where I stalking a guy. I am horribly embarrassed by it now. I was in my early teens but it still doesn't make it right. I got really obsessed with him. I would call him all the time and blow up his phone with text messages . Looking back, I think I was just trying to deal with my own trauma. I had recently got out of a sexual abuse situation and maybe that was my way of coping. I would NEVER do this now. But now this guy and I are friends on facebook. He knows I was just harmless and annoying. I have apologized and kind of explained my situation without too much detail.

use Battery operated GAME CAMERAS - around your property. They are wireless and camouflaged - can NOT see them - $120/each. angle them so if he steals one - another camera will catch him doing it. But chances of it being seen - slim.
