I think Shao Shang should have just gotten with Shanjian. She's a lot more like him in terms of maturity level and being petty. Plus, I don't like the idea of Ling Buyi being foolish. If it's a healthy relationship, you shouldn't have to be a fool to be in it.

he is a fool in the sense that he abandoned her two days before their wedding. hell, in all their time together, he never told her his real name. even if it's reasonable why he kept his secrets, he knew how clever she was and he knew she was picking up on the cues because she asked him not once but three times if there was anything important he needed to tell her. he picked revenge over her, thinking there were no more proofs and that no one would believe him if he told the world who he really was, when there were proofs he didn't know of and he had the Emperor's absolute trust. he is a fool not because he's in love with her, he is a fool because he didn't have faith in himself and caused five years of misery not only to himself but also to her. he is a fool because he goes out of his way to keep everyone she holds dear safe, from her older brother to Yuan Shanjian's family, even if he won't come and try to understand why exactly she was upset. Huo Buyi is great. but he has his fair share of flaws.

Off course ….Shan Jian was her teacher n she knew he was concerned about her in his own arrogant way. He was not totally bad guy. He was a clever arrogant scholar with ambition who honestly knew he could not compete with HBY. His weakness was he loved her but could not admit himself or to her because of his ego famous scholar official pride. Also his experience with his heart broken master’s life messed up his emotion n felt fear of total surrender to her. He could not devote or make commitment like HBY. So he lost the girl he loved in the end. 😩😭😩😭
