It's easy to be seduced by the memes and the satirical nature of American Psycho and to see it all as just a mere joke, but the book in particular really encapsulates the madness and despair of certain individuals, their suffering and the viciousness with which they inflict it on the world around them. I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st Street, on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, in a balanced diet, in a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an icepack while doing my stomach crunches.
